Richmond Restaurant Reviews
Pho Hoa8500 Alexandra Rd, Richmond
expensive pho, MSG soup

Submitted Wednesday, March 13, 2013 - 12:58am [Dine in]

I used to go to pho Hoa many years when i want to have pho. But during this 6 months, their pho is so ...............................so ..............so bad.

the soup is like MSG add water.
The prices is so expensive compare to other pho place. their small bowl more than $ 8, the large amost $ 10.

Service: No service at all, its hard to flag someone down.

Ambiance: Weird but otherwise ok - good location, just not enough parking to share with many restaurants close by.

Pho Cao Van is better than pho Hoa for sure.

My initial visit here in the early days suggests to me that its off to a good start.
I come to pho 99 richmond to try out with my family and friends for a few times. Yes, I love it !
They got many selections, even i come here every week for about 2 months now , i still have not finished trying all the menu items yet.
I like the House Special fried chicken wings are yummy, I love their Delicious Pho, and BUN BO HUE-spicy noodle soup, BO KHO –beef stew is very good too. I tried many different pho restaurants, but its not as good as Pho 99.I liked that the broth was not too salty but was flavorful enough to drink as a soup. Friendly services.
They got a great price too, with a combo included MAIN COURSE, APPRETIZER and DRINK less than $10, big portion. They got a rice combo with soup and drink for about $9.
you can create your own combo, it is the best way attract me return everyweek.
There were also some Viet Subs (with BBQ chicken, BBQ minced pork, Vietnamese ham) available priced at $3.95 very cheap. My mom always buy 10 or more for her co-workers almost every Friday.
As everyone knows, Alexandra road is very hard to find a parking. Another reason i like to come here because they HAVE A FREE PARKING at the back. Save my $$$$ for daily parking if i go to another pho restaurants in richmond at lunch or dinner hours. i saw numerous awards posted on the walls, and my girl friend introduce me with a few famous movie stars in hongkong and taiwan , sorry i didn't pay attention to her since i am very hungry and want to finish my lunch, hang back to work. I would certainly come back to pho99.

Went in main door sign said please go to hostess area by bar. Went to hostess area was completely ignored, people that came in after us that stood by door were seated. Gentleman possible manager in pale blue shirt walked passed us, my husband said " excuse me do you have a table for two" he literally screamed at us "no I do not" then walked away. We were walking out when I saw the hostess, I asked her why they had a sign saying to go over to the bar if they were not going to seat anyone from there plus they had sat people who came after us and the gentleman was extremely rude, she just shrugged her shoulders and said sorry.
Will never enter this establishment again and adivise everyone else not to.

When you come here, be sure to order this dish!

It is authentic to every taste like the capital city in North Vietnam. The veggies dish are rich and plentiful! The portion is huge so it is a very great sharing plate with someone.

Also you must order their Banh Mi Ga Nuong ! That's A Special Vietnamese Chicken Sandwich with very Crispy Skin combined with Lemon Grass Grill Chicken and a lot of Veggies, super super yummy!

Their Homemade Fresh Fruits Smoothies r also a PLUS such as Avocado MilkShake, Durian MilkShake, and StrawBerryShake...! That's So Delicious !

After writing this review, I will pay a visit again tomorrow and many more for sure !

I have been to this place a few times. It does have the best fried chicken in Vancouver. Everything else isnt so great. The gravy fries and all other stuff is so processed and taste like crap. It looks like a dive but the service isnt bad. Its pretty expensive but if you are craving good fried chicken this is the place for you.

When I think of pho I think large quantities for cheap. Although their service and quality is good, their portion sizes are really really small. Their large equals a small at other places like Pho 99 or Pho Lan. Even though it is the closest to me, I still go to other places because I usually leave still hungry.

Never Again!!!!

Submitted Thursday, February 28, 2013 - 8:41pm [Take-out]

OK, so a few years ago, i tried to place an order at the Ironwood location, and was on hold for about 20 minutes. During that time i emailed the CEO of B/P and got a voucher for a free dinner and a letter thanking me, which i never used.

So I figured that given a few years to get their you know what in order, I tried again and was promptly put on hold. BUT, 2 minutes later I place an order for 2 pulled pork pani pastas to be delivered.

40 minutes later, which is not bad, I got the order, 2 pizza lasagna, NO PULLED PORK PENNI. I could have called, but then to be put on hold again and have to wait another 40 minutes, I just don't have the patience!

Apparently, my neighbours also have given up on this location. It's too bad, since the food isn't all that bad, given the high prices. But one must wonder, who is organizing this bunch of employees that they would make stupid mistakes and cause the Company to loose customers????

I drive by this place almost everyday. I've always wanted to try it, but always ended up at my usual places for pho 99 in richmond.
Tried it today for lunch and was happy I did. I ordered a regular house special pho, spring rolls, their special bahn mi ( vietnamese grill chicken sandwich) and their ham & pork banh mi. Delicious!
I was so impressed with the broth. You don't need to add any of the sauces. It was so flavourful.
I think this may be my new go-to place for pho. I will be back.

My kids and I love their food very much. We go there once every week. But 8 out of 10 times we have to wait for our meals for an hour. Our last time there we express our anger and then we never go there again. Now we find a nice Karean restaurant with great food and great service-Dai Jang Kum located on St. EDWARD DR IN RICHMOND.

I dunno, I don't remember ever going to Quiznos. I don't know why. My kids like SUbway I guess. Went with work people.

I had a veggie deluxe. I wouldn't call it deluxe. A regular sized sandwich was over $7 with tax- not even a combo. The bread was neither toasted not cold just inbetween. The lettuce was a little brown and a lot of those hard core pieces. I couldn't tell what type of cheese was on it though it was supposed to be 2 kinds. They were indiscernable. The the guacamole tasted chemically and there was not th elarge choice of veggies like at subway. The hot pepper things they give you and the olives on it made the whole meal taste just kind of sour. No thanks.

2- Mediocre
By Ken6R of Burnaby (2 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, February 22, 2013 - 8:38pm [Dine in]

Let's discuss what a shabu shabu (personal hot pot) place should not have:

1. Waitresses watching the TV. In my books, the waitresses should be facing the customers at all times and never at the TV.
2. Extremely thin-sliced meats that break. In my case, chicken slices - lots of slices but super thin. I couldn't even grab them from the plate raw without them breaking. Never mind after they get cooked...
3. A very short and standard of ingredients for the sauce "assigned" to you. Nothing is optional. You cannot specify additions nor was I offered any, spicy or non, more of this and less of that, etc.
4. Ice cream offered arrives in the form of a popsicle.
5. Waitresses misting cleaner onto the counter while there is food right beside the space they are trying to clean.
6. Standard prices, but egg not included? Not to mention the amount of veggies given seems to be a bit less than other places. If this is a direct result of prior customers not even touching their veggies, I and anyone who are actually hungry are very disappointed in you.

This one is more of an opinion than a fact:
-I really don't care to have a TV in the establishment I'm dining at. TV's in restaurant is an Asia thing. If they are going for the Asian feel, they've hit it spot on.

I don't think there can be any pros this place can offer that can outweigh the above cons. I've been there three times over the last year and half and it has gotten worse every time. The only reason we went there was my favorite shabu shabu in Burnaby is closed on Wednesdays and I wanted to go for a drive. And so, the search for a backup continue...

In Richmond Chinese food does not lack in finding a chinese resturant. However to find, almond chicken, beef and broccoli, sweet and sour pork etc.is hard. three of us we had a 75$bill but we ordered 7 dishes that came as HUGE quanity. When we were done and full it looked like we didnt even touch our plates.
NO MSG
Fresh tating
Many Combos and one dishes
take out and delivery.
Owners were very funny and nice.
For a so so decor chinese place i noticed it was clean.
I would tell you when you order.order all the sauces on the side because you will take home half your meal. no one likes soggy almond chicken.
enjoy

We live in the area and dine in Steveston often. We had hoh hum experience last time ( 5 or so years ago) but were intrigued enough by reviews to try it again.
This time it was no different. My wife ordered the crab shrimp and avocado salad and the Alaska crab leg dinner. The appy was good but not great at $12 and the crab was what you would expect. I ordered the special which was a complete dinner at about $38.00 or so. The first course i chose was crab cakes which were good. The second course i chose was a seafood chowder which was fishy tasting, white thick chowder and no recognizable pieces of fish. My 3rd course was the lamb osso bucco. I would not usually order lamb in a seafood restaurant but it was on their fresh sheet/ special and I love lamb osso bucco. This is where it really went downhill. I won’t describe it other than to say a tough lamb shank covered in tomato sauce is not what I ordered and the menu described it quite different. The last course was great, chocolate mousse. With a $50ish dollar bottle of wine this dinner with tip (the waitress was good) was not worth the $150+ price tag! Steveston Seafood House please get your act together Steveston needs you!

My wife and I had dinner here after the Valentine's day. We had the carpaccio and the squah soup for starters. They were both very good, the soup was superb and flavorful and rich (in a good way).

I had the shepherd's pie and my wife had the beef wellington with foie gras.

The shepherd's pie was not in a pie dish but served with the lamb bone stuck into the shredded pieces of lamb shaped by a mold. The taste was okay but not out of this world. The beef wellington was way better and very tasty.

Service was excellent, attentive server without being overbearing. The owner was very friendly and would move around the romm asking how the diners enjoyed their meals.

Ambience was very earthy and warm and it was great seeing whole families having their dinners here.

Over-all the experience was memorable and worth repeating.

It wasnt bad a year or two before, but it is awful right now.

The satay sauce for the pancake was watery.

Pineapple fried rice is almost tasteless.

Pad Thai is supposed to have sweet and sour with a very mild spicy taste, but all I got was just spicy noodle.

Wont go back there ever again !!

I was really happy with the service. The hostess and waiter were all very profesional and friendly. I hardly encounter respect from restaurant workers, as they usualy are in a bad mood or they act snotty.

I ordered the Sirloin Oscar which was superb! If you are a fan of The Keg, then you will love this place. Perhaps better then The Keg, because the steak was cooked to perfection! The Keg always gets my steak wrong, as medium well seems hard for them to do!

The ambiance was really trendy and romantic. The place was clean and the lighting was perfectly dim, where you can still see your food.

I would recommend this place to everyone!

We had a family gathering here which took up about 2 tables. The other table got what they ordered, while our table barely got anything. I sat there so hungry with my little cousins. We complained, but the food still never came. The other table had to give us their frozen food that they didn't want and we were happy to accept it. After about 2 hours, the waitress told us it was last order and we have to leave soon. They still barely gave us anything at this time. I had to bring my little cousins to A&W on the ride home. What a joke !!!
