Came here on wednesday night with my friend. There was very few patrons here and there was only one other table taken when we entered. We ordered their deluxe dinner with a seaweed salad and a salmon don.
The salmon don came in a huge bowl, of mostly rice. The rice as the previous reviewer mentioned is a bit off, and the salmon was cut into huge chunks. there were about 4 big chunks of salmon on the rice. The seaweed salad was standard.
The deluxe dinner had ebi sunomono where the prawns tasted a little off as well, couldn't put my finger on it. It also came with an unagi don, where the eel was a little on the cheap side, and seemed strangely to be mostly skin. The appetizer sashimi it came with had 2 pieces of tuna and 2 pieces of salmon. The salmon was fine, but the tuna was too cold. I also had 3 pieces of tempura prawn, which was pretty good. For dessert they had coffee jello, which was good.
Inside was clean, and service was pretty good, had no complaints. Overall wasn't very impressed with the food or the value. Would not be back again.
Went there for dinner and we ordered the bento box, house roll and some sashimi. The sashimi pieces were small compared to other sushi places but it was fresh. However, we were very disappointed with the sushi rice. It was mushy. It could've been just a bad batch but if it was a good sushi restaurant, they will not serve a mushy sushi rice. They will just throw it away and make a new batch.
It doesn't suck like some, but average food at a higher price isn't something that will bring me back. I believe I ordered a house roll, dynamite, and a chopped scallop roll. My sister ordered a dynamite and prawn tempura. After all, it makes sense that you'd come to a sushi restaurant to order the sushi right?
The waitress was very nice and it was relaxing to eat here. However, like I said the main peeve I have with it is the fact that the food is only okay. I could probably get the same quality food somewhere else for cheaper. It's worth a try though, but I won't be coming back.
This restaurant has only been open a few weeks. We ordered take-out on a Friday night (January 3/2009)
Three people ordered the special for 8.99 that included terriyaki chicken or beef, miso soup, 3 piece california roll 1 salmon and 1 tuna sushi and a salad.
The california roll was Very large! the three pieces were like 6 pieces. The sushi was extremely fresh. The chicken was crispy and the miso soup was adequate.
The fourth person had three cones (Veggie, spicy tuna and salmon) as well as edamame. The Edamame was okay, simple, steamed with a small amount of salt. The veggie cone was very flavourful and included peppers which i've never seen in sushi. The spicy tuna was fresh and flavourful and the salmon was very fresh as well. The price for this was about 13.00.
The ambiance was quite cute when you walk in it is small with about 10 tables, you are greeted in japanese, they have very nice place settings and chalkboards with the daily specials.
You get 10% off for their grand opening.
I would definitely try this place again for their freshness and quality.
Come across this new sushi place while visiting a few friends in the area, we decided to check it out. Its hardly noticeable though because of its location.
The restaurant was simply decorated but nice and very clean. (for me it is the most important factor when choosing a restaurant). We had an assorted sashimi which tastes really really good and fresh (I mean it).
Followed by fotomaki roll, dynamite roll, eel roll and yam roll. All of them are surprisingly delicious. I also got an ebi sunomono and the sourness is just right. The prawn was good with a bit of ginger taste, making it somewhat different from other places, but I like it.
We shared a vegetable hotpot with lots of stuffs like mushrooms and tofu inside, but not enough for all of us. (it's a 1-person portion as per the waitress but we just wanted to try it out). That is good!
The waitress recommended Grilled Salmon Belly. It was the most delicious grilled salmon I had ever never tasted. It was just made to perfection! Yuuuuuuuuuuumy!! And the curry, I must mention it. I could not resist it. It looks so nice and tastes so good.
My friends had the Sake clams. I could not comment on it because of allergy. They said it was good though.
This place surprised us with its great taste. Will come back, chef!
On Monday evening, our family drove over to Maruwa Sushi on Stsn hwy. It was 7:30 pm and we were told a table will be ready by 8:15.
Not wanting to wait, we desired to try out the new Japanese restaurant, Zuushi Garden, which is next to Master Hung BBQ hse on Garden City.
Our preferred choice for Japanese rest are 1) Seto 2) Maruwa and 3) Torarenbo This is because they are staffed by Japanese trained chefs. We are always looking to augment this list.
At Zuushi, there were only one only table seated besides our. The restaurant is very clean. The decor tasteful. We were especially impressed with the cleanliness of the WC. The waitress / hostess / owner greeted us warmly.
We proceeded to order Ankimo, a Negitoro Maki, a Unagi Don. Salmon Kama , a pot of seafood sukiyaki and two piece of flame scallop sushi.
As we ate the food, our heart sank.... the Negitoro Maki had tuna bits still frozen and I spitted out a piece of bone. I mentioned it to the hostess and she promptly removed fromthe bill.
The eel on the Unagi don had lots of bones. We sort of expected it as this is a chinese run Japanese resturant. Did i mention the sushi chef is Chinese???. By what disappointed me was my 7 year old daughter asking me,,,,how come this isn't sushi rice....it tasted like the long grain Jasmine rice we cook at home. The rice was not cooked fully. My wife and i ended up eating the rice.
the Salmon Kama was not fully cooked either. The flesh was attached to the collar still. When we mentioned this to the hostess,, she said the chef likes to under cook the salmon so it won't be dry. We didn't argue with her.. Honestly, of all the japanese restaurants i have eaten in Vancouver and HK in the past 20 plus years, not once have i had a Kama undercooked. Maybe the chef should pay more attention to his food quality.
The sukiyaki did not have any tofu in it. We found that very surprising.
The rice beneath the Scallop sushis broke in half when we picked it up with the chopsticks.
Price on the menu is reasonable; then again, the food portion is not big.
At the end of dinner, we left the customary 10% tip and left.
The highlight of our dinner was watching Hell's Kitchen and Restaurant Makeover while dining.
I appause this young couple for being entrepreneurial during this hard economic times. IMO, the chef needs to take a sober look why his restaurant is 90% empty.
When we got home, we made Nissan Instant noodles. : )
Had read this is a newish restaurant, close to Master Hung's which is one of the nicest BBQ meat restos in Richmond that i know. Also read 2 precious favourable reviews so, decided to try.
Went on Thursday evening so place quite quiet.
I echo the other reviewers that the sushi here is very fresh and and very, very tasty. We had the clams in sake consomme, spider roll(deep fried soft shelled crabs), prawns tempura, and shared a bowl of chirashi don(assorted sashimi) on rice. Every one of these was beautifully presented on pretty japanese bowls and dishes, which is great, but the taste, wow!! very fresh and very good. The price is more than reasonable as is but, on top of this, there is a 10% off promotion going on...not sure for how long..
We were very impressed by this little place where the chef obviously cares about each of his creations.
Really struggled with wanting to keep this a secret and shouting its praises.
We will be baaaaccckkkkk!!
The food there was really really good, had a tuna, and salmon nigiri, both of which were very very fresh, and tasted very good as well!!
Also had the Zushi House Special Roll, and the Vegetable Udon. The Roll was filled with fresh ingredients, unlike some places that try to put alot of rice, and less ingredients! was very very good!!!
the vegetable udon was the same! very good ingredients! i like mushrooms, and there were alot in there, all fresh as well, didn't feel greasy after eating!
I would definitely go back there again, the lady that served us was very nice too.
