Of all the places to eat in the Lansdowne Centre food court, ThaiWay Express is probably the one you should avoid. I've eaten here twice, and both times I was immensely disappointed (and this is coming from a guy who prides himself as a very unpicky eater).
I was lured in by the $6.98 price for a 3 entrees plus rice & noodle deal. Sure it's relatively cheap, but I can honestly say that I felt robbed.
I'm going to break down the 5 food items on my plate, as follows...
1) Fried Chicken:
Probably the most boring piece of fried chicken I've probably ever had. Looked appetizing and crispy, but quickly learned that the whole thing was flavorless. I'm not a fan of KFC chicken here in Canada, but I would easily choose it over this place 100% of the time.
2) The Manager's Special:
This dish is essentially glorified (albeit, only by name) honey-garlic spareribs, and was actually the best thing on my plate plate. Of course, this isn't really saying much considering how low the bar was set by the rest. It's tasty enough to not hate it, but definitely not good enough to impress anybody who gives it a shot.
3) The Chicken Curry:
WORST.... CURRY... EVER! Not only was the flavor abysmal, but the entire thing was 80% potatoes & 20% chicken! I swear, that's not even an exaggeration, and you could take my word for it.
4) The "Fried" Rice:
Bland. Just very bland.
Salty. Just very salty.
As for the service, while the server was not rude to me, I could tell they were very stingy indidivuals. The first time I ordered food from this place, I asked if I could have an additional plate so that I would be able to share with my girlfriend, and they handed me a styrofoam plate that's large enough to carry maybe... 4-5 IKEA Swedish Meatballs? Yeah, that should kinda speak for itself...
Long story short, avoid at all cost! Spend the extra buck or two elsewhere so that you wouldn't want to regurgitate your meal immediately after.
