Taco Luis is located in the Lansdowne Centre food court.
I've tried a few things at this place. While not authentic it's a delicious rendition of Canadian-Mexican food. The taco's come overfilled with fresh toppings. The Mexican chicken rice is a balanced plate of flavours and tastes yummy. The mexican rice is more like the Asian style white rice and tastes good, I can't stand the rice served at other mexican places and greek places, those remind me of Uncle Ben's rice. I love that their chicken meat isn't ground it's chunks of real chicken meat and includes boneless white and dark meat. There is an array of fresh toppings besides lettuce and tomatos including cucumbers and shredded carrots. They are generous with the sour cream. I don't really like the guacomole here and skip it. Do try the salsa sauces at the front cash register. They were tasty, and the hot one isn't spicy. Other topping choices include japaleno and banana pepper. This place is addictive, they offer fresh hearty portions of food. The owner is friendly and chatty and makes everyone feel welcome. I wish there were more unique independently owned food court gems like this place. The empanada hut a few stalls down is also worth a visit for a snack, their empanada's are tasty. Highly recommended if you are in the area and want something inexpensive and different.
I come here on and off (and out of my way) during lunch since it's pretty consistent and inexpensive.
I've had the hard shell tacos, burritos and soft tacos - decent but consistent flavour and your choice of "fixins'", including odd choices like shreaded carrots and diced cucumbers. Their tater tots which are mostly ordinary are addictive in their own right.
Prices are very competitive and considering it tastes a whack more fresh I feel it offers great value.
Service is like a well oiled machine and runs fast. Be sure you know what to get before you line up.
It is part of the food court so what else can I say about the ambience?
Don't let the pseudo Mexicano name fool you it really is fast food disguised in sheep. However, judging by the amount of self-proclaimed Mexican-type restaurants around town that has yet to prove it's worth this food court quality grub can easily surpass those places in flavour and value, without the pretentious flare.
I normally avoid mexican fast food. I was in this mall and remembered the reviews I read here so decided to try this place. I really just wanted to see what the owner was like. Yeah he was interesting, and I like the character he adds to the place. But I somehow expected more character from all these reviews, expectations too high I guess.
Food was typical uninteresting canadian mexican food. I'm being generous when I give it 3 stars. I will say its better than the other mexican fast food chains.
Went here this afternoon after reading the reviews and found an interesting little fast food restaurant in the Lansdowne Mall food court.
Surprisingly - there was a big line-up which I didn't expect. The line-up moved pretty quickly as the people who work there are FAST! The service was friendly as well!
The food was pretty fresh and tasty. We had two chicken tacos and their tater tots/mexi fries. The fries were super crispy and not oily at all (which is usually the case w/fast food places). The chicken was flavourful and moist and the vegetables were plentiful and fresh.
If we're in the neighbourhood again we'd definitely hit this place up for some yummy mexican food!
Good Value fast food in Lansdowne mall, if you can stand the owner who some people love personally I wish he would just serve the food and not talk so much. He is a very hyper man who loves to talk, and make comments about everything and anything. The combos are a great deal and are very reasonable for the amount of food you receive. I have seen him change his prices based on who the customers is so be aware.
I just returned from Taco Luis for lunch. It's a far drive for me considering I work in Burnaby, but I've heard some good things about this taco stand (Word of mouth and newspaper articles).
Looking into the food court, you can definitely tell who the king of kiosks is. Taco Luis. The line-ups here beat out any other by at least 4x. I guess with the high turnover, they're able to offer good amounts of food for a good deal. I had the super 4 combo today: a huge chicken burrito, a heaping side of tots and a pop for under $7.
The service is fast and the flamboyant owner was there to deliver the entertainment everyone talks about. Yes, I agree cucumber is not your usual Mexican topping, but I found it to be a refreshing addition. I asked for no onion - but somehow, even now 2 hours later, I'm still getting this onion taste in my mouth! Thank god I don't have any meetings this afternoon! I guess their hot sauce has plenty onion juice in it.
It's not authentic mexican, but it's a great deal for lunch and IMHO, much better than Taco Time or even Taco Del Mar.
The owner definitely adds a lot of character to this place. He loves to talk and makes hilarious/sometimes annoying comments to keep the line interested. Very flamboyant and a genuinely friendly guy.
The food is anything but authentic, but for a fast food place, I personally think the quality of Taco Luis smokes Taco Bell. Taco Time, Taco Del Mar, and Red Burrito. The portions are pretty big, and you get quite a bit of tater tots/mexi fries in the combo + a drink. I usually order the 10 inch special beef soft taco combo and I believe it's in the neighborhood of $5.50 tax in. Value indeed.
I always make it a point to drop by this place when I'm in the area to run errands and the like.
I don't think the Ambiance score really applies here since this is a food court outlet, so I've given it a 3.
My friend always rants and raves about this place, but I don't know what the big deal is. I ordered a taco salad and it was pretty weak. Who on earth puts cucumber in a taco salad? It was the most bland Mexican food I ever had. I'm guessing the burritos and tacos are tastier.
The Chinese guy who works here is indeed a colourful, talkative fellow. I found him quite amusing, but judging from the reaction of other customers, they were annoyed, which I also found amusing. The guy never stops talking.
Many issues come to play here at Taco Luis. The owner knows you, there is fexibility in the menu, and the cost is acceptable. Good food and a delight to be in the line-up with fellow lovers of simple, quick and satisfying food. Wish the business was somewhere else where a real experience could be had but for what it is, where it is, it's awesome.
the major part of the menu is its price. its cheap! but delicious. mexican rice, and burritos with their potato toddlers are excellent. get the tomato sauce in front of the cashier. youll like it the second time u use it. i always think...why would anyone go to subway? subway is fricken expensive now...and no good combos.
the owner is unique! he used to be a chiropractor. but loves the food business.the best in lansdowne food court.
Shiming is the man. He has a knack for remembering his customers and what they order which is a great asset. I've been going here for years and he always perks up when he sees me coming and I love the small banter. Even if you're not an outgoing person you'll still appreciate his well-intentioned sense of humour.
Anyway service aside, the food here is actually really freaking good. So what if it's not "authentic" - what do you expect from a mall food-court? Same for the ambience, although I like how he adds a personal touch with pictures of his family in the place. I love their tater-tots I think I'm addicted to them although one time I ate them so fast it burned the roof of my mouth for days. Their salsa dipping sauce is the key but its got so much onions I can't get the nasty after-taste out of my mouth for a while too. Whatever, can't complain about that! Their ingredients are fresh and I really like the chilli beef.
I just wish Taco Luis wasn't in that ghost-town mall so I could visit more often!
This taco place is located in Lansdowne Mall in Richmond. The owner is a very nice guy and always talks to you. He always remembers you no matter how long you don't come for. Food: HIs burritos are huge and he makes real beef and you can choose from an array of toppings like lettuce, tomatoes and even carrots and cucumbers. Sour cream and guac can be added for FREE! The taste is out of this world. Super fresh and not bland tasting like Taco Bell. Filling. Service: Awesome. The owner is so friendly and comments on your style of ordering. He gave me extra beef for free because I get little veggies. Taquitos are the best as they are handmade and fried and crispy. Their salsa is a must. Value: Amazing. A huge burrito, tatertots and a large drink is under 8 bucks. This is the only good place in Lansdowne and Taco Bell is piss poor compared to this gem. Highly recommended.
Taco Luis definitely reigns supreme in the food court. The owner is there everyday and he has this crazy, eccentric personality that will kind of weird you out at first but you'll grow to love after. The food is good and super cheap. A 6" burrito, taters (they call it something else but they're taters), and a bottle of water for $3.99!!!!
If you are looking for some good mexican in Richmond, this is the place to go. Although it is situated in the food court, its a great healthier meal than many other choices. The meats the use are real and they're not like a mix from taco bell. Everytime we go here I am not disappointed because everything is freshly made when you order and all the toppings look like they've been prepared the same day. I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu!
Great meal deal! I recommend their chicken wrap but their beef wrap isn't bad either.
Their service is pretty good though one of the guys is indeed really talkative. At times, it can be a bit annoying but overall, you are getting your money's worth for the amount of food you are getting.
There's usually a huge line up around the noon hour for Taco Luis.
Although it is not authentic Mexican food by any means, it sure makes for tasty fast food! The food is prepared freshly and you have the option of putting whichever ingredients you pelase into your taco.
That animated server is hilarious! He likes to give you extra bits of food even if you don't ask for it. It can be seen as annoying, but I think it's rather great service!
You can get a bean burrito combo with salad and tater tots for $2!!!
I personally like their chicken soft tacos. It's yummy and cheap and beats out all of the other place at Lansdowne's food court.
Not a bad place. A enthuiastic taco maker who talks to you... the food... and whatevr else hes close to with a funny accent. Food is quite good. Every lunch break on my school days I used to go there. He'd be like
"Heeeey again another kwantlen special commin riiiight up, ok now u waaanna rice rriight?"
A taco, side tater tarts and a drink for 5$ on the dot. Not bad at all.
Although they used to serve canned pop... now they have a pop machine and they charge u for refills.
