We tagged along to this small upstairs bbt joint since some of our friends are also keen on trying new places. While visible from street level, the main entrance is up a flight of stairs and down a hallway..it mind as well have been in a doctor's office.
The layout is traditional, wooden tables and hard wooden benches or chairs to sit on. The table counters have seen better days, though most of the damage were carved in characters, but the rest of the place was tidy, and they even have a small covered outdoor patio area. On that warm night, there were only a few occupied tables.
They have a large drink menu including quite a few appetizers and soup dishes, but my gf and I ordered our usual slushes with pearls. Definitely one of the best slushes I've had, with the perfect texture and chewiness from the pearls. Well blended and smooth, with the only drawback being that the sizes are a little small and the prices lean on the steep end. Our friends enjoyed their teas though they agreed it was more expensive than the average.
Service is real slow; our final order came to the table almost at the next hour, and this was after our friend had to change her order to tea because they had run out of fresh fruit for her drink, taking them about 10 minutes to notify us after taking our orders. The 2 staff present are friendly but the wait is interminable, brought worse by the fact that several takeout customers walked in after we sat down but received their orders ahead of us.
Though the drinks they prepare rank quite high on my scale, I can't warm up to their snail's pace. There are equally fantastic bbt places elsewhere without the thumb twiddling.
