A Buddhist vegetarian restaurant
Food is okay, but a bit bland without much spice to it. Not even salt, I don't think.
One of the waiteress staff (the older one with the "engineer's hat" on was a bit condescending, when we asked about the special rice. Instead of explaining it, she said "oh, you won't like that rice". She shuffles her feet in slippers across the floor too. The younger wait staff were better, but when busy they choose to ignore you.
I went there a second time on the invite of a couple of friends and the same "engineer's hat" wearing waitress was wearing the same hat, still shuffling her feet in the same slippers, still being condescending.
Next time someone suggests this place, I'd suggest Bo Kong in Vancouver instead.
I have to say, this place has food that tastes good and looks good. I like bringing my "meat" eater friends here, because the food is so tasty, most of them forget or don't believe the things are vegetarian. The price is reasonable and food is great. They lack in service, maybe because they are busy most of the time. This is one of my fave places to eat.. I recommend the veggie peper cutlet steak, the soya milk hot pot, the lettuce wrap, the taiwanese dry noodle, the curry beef brisket rice, the sweet and sour treasures, are all tasted by my friends and approved. I recommend this place for anybody, vegetarian or non vegetarian.
We go here almost every time we are shopping in Richmond. The menu is quite varied, carrying everything from dim sum to hot pot to everything in between. We love the dim sum snacks, often ordering the veggie cutlet and radish cakes (although I'm not the biggest fan of their texture). The main dishes are more hit and miss, we liked the black bean tofu, but ordered something else we didn't like as much (can't remember the name). From the English description sometimes it's hard to tell what the dish will be like. The service is pleasant and the decor is nice, except the employees often seem to do their work and "hang out" in the main dining area -- I don't mind this but it does make the restaurant feel very casual. Prices very reasonable. We will definitely be back.
The location is not great, and view is non-existent. What makes up for it, is the incredible vegetarian food here that you will not find anywhere else in Vancouver. The food here is different from Naam, where the food is more raw in taste. The food here are very tasty. Being a vegetarian, I sometimes crave meat dishes. Not the meat taste itself, but the sauce and the way it is cooked. I have to say the soy meat here (which is made in house by the chef) is the best I've tasted and really satisfy my cravings for some of the dishes I am missing because of my decision not to eat meat. If you are not vegetarian, this is still a good place to try, especially if you like asian/taiwanese food. If you are a vegetarian, definitely give it a try.
My vegetarian friend took me out for lunch today.. Im a carnivore, but Im open to new food tastes. What a pleasant surprise. Food was tasty (hence the title) - couldnt believe it was veggie meat! Service was prompt - wait staff speak english and mandarin fluently - only drawback was the menu is a bit busy, it took us a while to decide what to eat (the poor waitress came by 3 times but smiled every time and made suggestions) - we ended up with a "beef" hot pot, spicy pepper steak on an iron plate and a tofu sukiyaki.. good sized portions and steaming hot. We'll be dropping by again soon.
Ate here recently - Buddhist Taiwanese Chinese vegetarian food. Ordered the Taiwanese vegetables chow mein and a small miso soup - fantastic! The miso soup is wonderful with tofu, seaweed and shiitake mushroom, mellow and different.
The vegetables chow mein came with Chinese parsley, and a indescribable sauce, the sauce alone was worth the visit to this very interesting and delish cuisine! Loved it!
