Chinese baked goods, cakes and pastries with European flair. Since 1986. Located in Aberdeen Centre Mall, Richmond.
My friend ordered a birthday cake from here a couple of months ago and it was awful. She ordered the tiramisu and I thought that it wasn't fresh, as if it was prepared 3 days before my gf picked it up. We had 6 people who attended the birthday dinner and none of us liked it, except the birthday girl who pretended that she liked it cuz it was a present from one of us. I would never order a birthday cake from here anymore and I would suggest that no one orders birthday cakes from here if you want to impress the crowd. I would give the individual serving cakes another try though and look for the newest cakes that aren't prepared days ago.
This place is like the other locations, except for some reason I always find their buns slightly better. Might be the high turnover keeping the stock fresh. Speaking of which, try the curry beef turnover. It is awesome. The other buns I eat here are chasiubow (of course) and tuna buns, although they need more filling! They are okay, but you can get better elsewhere. The service is usually very food, and the staff are helpful. The location is good since it is in a mall and you can get buns, buy veggies, and obtain Singapore jerky all within 75 feet of the entrance to the mall. Plus T&T is close by. What more do you need?
Good for busy shoppers.
When I am in a mood of having pastry, this place is a wonderful choice. They have the best Napoleon pie in this town. Every bakery I go, I have to Napoleon and I find this store has THE BEST Napoleon. It's fluffy and creamy. All the cakes are good. Hehehe! I tried them all, single slice. I love them all. I can't pick my favorite.
The service is friendly and fast. The store is bright and clean. It faces big spacious aisle in the mall. Very nice space they have there.
You can get a lot of pretty looking cakes and pies and have your afternoon tea at home, arrange them nicely on a 3 tier dessert plate or big plate. Especially in a dreadful raining day, it will certainly cheer you up. Sweet!
As chinese pastries go, I love the sponge cake from Saint Germain the best... to the point where I won't eat it elsewhere now. It's dense, but light, moist, but not oily. It's not overly sweet and just absolutely fantastic. It's the reason I don't eat cake with icing anymore.
Love, love, LOVE it.
Oh, and their salty egg custard buns, egg tarts and mango cakes rock my world too!
