Tonkatsu + Rice

Saboten is one of the specialty places to eat at in the Aberdeen food court, and their Tonkatsu definitely gives high end Japanese restaurants a run for their money. I ordered the tenderloin curry set, first of all because I like Japanese curry, and secondly, it's called tender-loin. The set was a little on the expensive side compared to others in the same food court, mainly because it doesn't come with a drink, but comes with miso soup and cabbage salad.

The curry sauce was delicious, it was a little salty, because it was meant to be mixed with rice and tonkatsu and not meant to be eaten alone.. The curry was thick and rich with flavor. It went very well with the rice and fried tenderloin.

The tenderloin was very crispy on the outside. The batter they used was a combination of soft and crispy, it didn't have an exceptional crunch. If you just leave the batter in your mouth, it will melt. I like that soft feeling of the batter, which doesn't hurt the inside of your mouth when you bite into it.

The tenderloin itself was very....tender. I didn't have difficulty when I bit into the meat, it was juicy, but not greasy, and chewy which I enjoyed very much. Definitely one of the best deep fried porkchops I have tasted in a while.

Two recommendations:
1. Try the sandwich! I didn't get a chance to, but I will be going back to do so. I don't remember the name of it, but they sell out pretty fast and they only make very little each day.

2. Eat the salad with your set. Surprisingly, the cabbage that comes is very fresh and refreshing, compared to some dry and brown veggies you get at other places. The vinegar dressing goes along well with the cabbage and serves as a good appetizer.

Saboten is in a foodcourt, so I'm not going to rate the service and ambiance. But the food is great and value is good, even though it's a little pricier than it's counterparts in the foodcourt.
