Better than average Indian

The owners are from Kerala, so the flavours are the richer, warmer flavours of the south.

The dosas are amazing.

The onion bhaji is good.

And, the vindaloo was real south-Indian vindaloo, and very well executed. We didn't get charged for extra rice, and the naan is better than at most places.

I would definitely recommend you go.

Remembered reading about this place in the Province and decided to give it a try.

We had Beef Vindaloo, Masala Dosa, Tandoori Chicken and sides on Naan, Rice and papadum. Everything we had, down to the papadum, was excellent.

The Beef was cooked just right and the curry fragrant, Dosa was the best we've had by far, Tandoori chicken was very tender and tasty.

This is the first time I've eaten Tandoori chicken off a hot plate. I do not really care for the hot plate because after a while, the chicken became burnt and got stuck to the hot plate.

Service was friendly, attentive and the server made great recommendations.

Ambiance - Well, it is an Indian restaurant in Richmond. Can't expect much. The food more than make up for it though.

We will definitely return.

good Indian fix....

Another work week lunch with co-workers. We were all a little sushi weary and wanted a change. We decided on this place based on past recommendations. Parking is a little tight because of the skytrain construction but we parked across the street at the mall lot and walked no problem. Decor is clean (so are the washrooms, a nice change from most sushi places!) with some attempt at ethnic flair but who cares when the food is the main thing right? The $8.95 lunch buffet is good deal. The selection is somewhat limited but what they have is very well prepared (Butter and Tandoori chicken, Saag paneer etc..). The owners are from the south so their specialty is actually Dosas (not AYCE), which some of our group had and loved. They also bring you fresh Naan when you have the AYCE lunch, very enjoyable and not overly heavy/buttery like some Naan.
A nice change from all Chi-apanes places in Richmond. I would recommend.

Went to Quilon the other day with my boyfriend and we ordered chai tea right away but didn't come till our food came. We ordered the long crepe with veggie filling and the tandoori dinner. It was yummy. But we didn't get water till the beginning of our meal. Quilon is decently priced for their portions.

We tried this restaurant based on reviews. Despite the questionable look from the outside (next a check cashing store), the interior is very nice. The place, including the rest room, is very clean. We went for dosas, which were fabulous! Two people ate till we were stuffed for $24, including tip. You just can't beat the price!

Perhaps it is not fancy, but the food is authentic and really good. A nice find.

during the spring of 2006 I was introduced to the Quilon by a good East Indian friend.

Vineeta did nothing but rave about this establishment.............................that is until we had dined there.

the ambience was nothing to write home to, the service as at best acceptable and the fare left a lot to be desired.

I for one have difficulty in understanding the logic to all the raves

well, to each his/her own

We passed this restaurant many times - never considered going in because of the rundown exterior. Only after reading the first comment on this website, I suggested my husband we give it a try - and oh I'm glad we did! We went there early Friday night - the place was empty. The interior was surprisingly much nicer than exterior. We ordered two curry dinners to go - chicken w house curry, lamb w spicy creamy curry. Each costs about $12 w huge Naan and rice. We hurried back home in great anticipation and we were not at all disappointed. Both curry were fresh, hot, spicy, with generous chunks of tender meat. Everything was so flavourful. Honestly, it was plate-licking good. If you are one of the No 3 Rd commuter who never tried this place, I encourage you do. You don't know what you are missing.

probably the best Indian buffet in Greater Vancouver

I've been there trying other Indian buffets in Westside and Punjabi market, I haven't really found any decent one. To me it was strange, because there are large number of S. Asians here. I asked one of them, and he said they just go to a la carte restaurants?!?! I love Indian food and eating it a lot, so I kept looking for Indian buffets.

I was in the area, looking for place for lunch, I saw a tacky sign says T-F Lunch Buffet $8.99. The look from outside wasn't really promising, but I went in to check it out. It was around 11am, it was already open, I was told buffet is available till 3pm.

The choice of food at buffet is rather poor, maybe less than 20 kinds of dishes, including simple garden salad and one kind of dessert (rice in sweet milk). Each of them were at right temperature, which I value highly, very important for taste and food safety.

Best feature of this buffet is that you get tandori chicken and freshly baked naan delivered to you. For the price of $8.99, where else can you get both at other buffets in Greater Van.? I don't understand why other places don't give you a fresh naan at buffet, the flour shouldn't be that expensive and it's the best way to fill up the customers. They also have chapati.

For curry, they have butter chicken and 3-4 kinds of veggie curry, all of them are above average.

I'm always hungry when I go there, so I haven't tried their dosas, but I should try it sometime. Having visited a few Indian buffet which has 100 choices of food, I don't really give high rating to Quilon, but I think it's best value yet for Indian buffet in the area.

I have been looking for a nice dosa place all this time. Recently been to Quilon (thanks to a friend) and wasnt disappointed at all. We ordered the Rava Masala Dosa and the Ghee masala dosa. Both were excellent, although I would say you really have to like that taste of ghee in order to enjoy the Ghee masala dosa. But the food was really good.
I think I will definitely go there again, sooner than later. My hunt for a real dosa place seems to have finally come to an end!

Whenever I have craving for Indian food, either Vji's or Quilon can do the trick.

Let me get the negative parts out of the way first:

-The place is not too nicely decorated but it's clean (since outside looks pretty crappy).

-Service could be slow and sometimes they tend to forget to bring what you asked.

Food:

All items on the menu are served with rice and naan, but a la carte is also available.
Dosa is really good, i highly recommand it. Other dishes such as chicken marsala, curry lamb (so tender) are all great and we always leave that place with satisfaction. (Except one time my mother made the mistake of ordering house curry with prawn, no problem with the curry at all but those are possibly-frozen shrimps instead of prawns.)

I highly recommand this place, don't be afraid of the exterior!!

Only been once, but after the first visit, we will definitely be going back for more. Parking is a bit of a chore since the restaurant is located at the busiest corner in Richmond, but don't let that stop you from having a great Indian meal. House curry with chicken was rock solid, eggplant bhartha was perfect, biryani was great. Dosa was huge! Are they always 3 times the size of your plate? My gf's mom likes the spicy food so we asked them to kick it up a bit and they definitely did.

We parked on Saba and walked around the corner. Not a big deal.

I have been there a couple of times. Tried their dosas but fell in love with the paneer. Good naan bread and chaapti. Tasty stuff but took awhile to get the bill after the food was gone.

Anyone that has read my reviews on Indian restaurants in Vancouver may think that I'm unduly harsh towards them. Well, I've finally found a restaurant that does Indian cuisine justice. Quilon is well laid out and serves primarily South Indian food which happens to be my favourite. I love dosas - a thin crepe with some sort of vegetarian or meat filling with a coconut chutney, sambal and some sort of chili chutney. Well, since the sad demise of the Dosa Hut which used to be on Hastings and Commercial I have been missing masala dosas. Not any more... the dosas here are tasty, huge (so bring an appetite) and very reasonably priced - I had a masala dosa for $7.00.

I've tried Noor Mahal and another south Indian place on Kingsway called House of Dosas and those awful restaurants in "Little India" on Main (which I'd avoid like the plague) and they simply don't measure up, usually because the crepe is overdone or the sambal is bland. At Quilon, they get it just right. I've had better in England and in India, but this one is really good and I'll be going back for more. The other thing I like about this restaurant is that the staff are really friendly and not in that nauseating sycophantic way that most waiters are in Indian restaurants. The restaurant is also really clean which always puts me at ease. There's nothing like a filthy bathroom to make me wonder what state the kitchen is in.

I also had a vegetarian thali there which was very good and properly priced at $12.95 which is about normal. It was very good and came with one naan which wasn't swimming in butter or oil.

I've been here a couple of times and I have yet to be disappointed. Excellent selection, excellent food. If you like spicy, not the fake kind of spicy, you'll love this place.

They'll always check with you if you want it spicy though, so don't worry!
