Pointed Caesar = Amazing!
By KristyQ of Richmond - Steveston (1 Review)

I was here during lunch on a weekday. The food is good portions and reasonably priced. My friend and I both had the pointed caesar, delicious! It was nice to have something a bit different. I noticed all the menu items were very unique but not too "strange", traditional I suppose with a twist. There were two servers working the floor, both friendly and professional and very funny. You could tell they enjoyed their work.We saw the chef on our way out and complimented him on his efforts. The ambiance could be improved but the restaurant is very small and not too busy and I guess the managers are working with what they have. I will defenitly come back.

Boring food

The curry chicken here is not good. The chicken's not fresh (tastes and looks like those seasoned, frozen chicken breasts from costco). The curry is very bland and rich. Kinda tasted like I was eating rice with spicy coconut milk - yuk! The filet was quite good though. We also ordered their chorizo "sliders". I wish they'd called it chorizo on a crostini with goat cheese because that's what it was - yawn! It was not a slider! Service was good, the restaurant was clean and comfy.

Why no BYOB? I am the disappoint....
By AKInc of Richmond B.C (19 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, May 24, 2011 - 11:37am [Dine in]

We had a coupon to go to The Point and it's walking distance, so we thought we'd look up the menu online. Decent menu yet we were drawn in with the platter for two. Essentially a surf and turf with an salad and dessert. We had the house salad to start. It was pretty fresh and the ingredients were good, although just too much dressing. It overpowered the spring greens, just not necessary.

The entree was fillet mignon, prawns, potatoes, vegetables and salmon. The Fillet mignon was spot on, the prawns were good (but meh), vegetables were great and the potatoes were obviously started in the microwave and finished in a pan.

We had a berry crumble and chocolate cake for dessert. Both were good. Overall this place was just solid.

Here's the notable parts: There was a large TV with Law and Order SVU on...weird.... The staff was really friendly. I enjoyed them taking the time to ask and try honestly to make us happy.

Something on my mind: Why does no one advertise BYOB? Why do we not do this in BC? This might make an average place like The Point find some serious clientele, I would prefer them over many other places, of the corkage fee was reasonable. thoughts?

Totally Overpriced even with groupons

We bought 2 groupons for 2 pasta and 6 tapas and went to this restaurant yesterday. The tapas were ok, but not tasty. The portion was way too small even for kids. Can't believe they charged $15 for 3 pcs of stuffed pasta shell and 2 garlic toast. Desserts were mediocre at best, disappointing at worst. Any housewife can make that kind of food. Not worth it! Highly doubt why they're still in business!

Food here is horrible!
advertised as fresh, when it is clearly frozen. As someone who works in the industry and has training to back it up..I could tell the diffence. fresh fish should not be an issue when having a restaurant in steveston. my friend had the curry chicken which was clearly whipping cream with curry powder added.. very bland. a big dissapointment!! this resturant seems very pretentious!!!
as for the price,,too much. if i were paying for what was advertised then i would feel differntly.
service was ok, however our server did spend most of the time in the back of the kitchen rather than filling our waters etc.
the ambiance is meh, could use improvments..did not like the fact that the laundry is in the womens washroom. and the tv's are a bit much,, semmed like the staff was more focused on watching the game then serving the customers.
I would highly recommend another restaurant in steveston... there are mush better ones on the docks, they have a great view and great food to boot.

What's the point?

Sorry - couldn't resist the review title with a resto name like that.

It's true what mimi666 says - as a Steveston local, we don't usually eat here, just because it generally *is* for tourists, with a couple of notable exceptions (Steveston Pizza, Kisamos...)

The Point is neither high class nor casual dining. Its food is presented well enough and has some nice flavours. We tried Thai prawns as an appy and it was quite nice. Our mains were satisfying and well executed. We were given good service.

But that's all I can say... it was a night that was not particularly memorable for being great or bad. I get the same neutral sort of "that was ok" feeling from going to a number of bland-ish, Canada "explores the world in a menu", "a little something for everyone" kind of place.

We had a bottle of NZ sauv blanc, 2 appies (tomato & bocconcini + the aforementioned prawns), 3 mains (lobster ravioli, pork tndrloin, jambalaya) + 2 desserts (tiramisu + apple crisp).
Bill = $170.

For me, I wouldn't have felt ripped off at about the $60 ~ $80 price point.

Well, I hope the tourists enjoy it.

Worth a visit
By ngibzak of Burnaby (22 Reviews)

Have visited the Point a number of times over the past year, and have always found it to be a pleasant experience. The most recent visit was on a warm Sunday evening. While I’ve never seen the restaurant really packed, on this particular occasion it was almost deserted (girlfriend and I actually had to double-check the sign to make sure the restaurant was open). And this despite the sunshine and an inviting patio. Don’t know if this can be attributed to the fact that the location’s a little off the beaten track, a few blocks away from the more tourist-friendly patios closer to the harbor. In any case, the Point offers one of the more subdued dining experiences available in Steveston.

As for the food itself, what’s offered is more than passable, and often borders on the very good. Have tried the lobster ravioli, bison burger, and steak on previous visits, and have come away satisfied. This time we decided to ditch the mains and stick with appetizers, in order to get a wider sampling of flavours. We began with Thai prawns, and seared tuna on crostini. The prawns were tasty. The tuna, not so much. It came with a mango chutney/salsa that had a flavor that could best be described as “medicinal”. It didn’t play well at all with the balsamic reduction. Next came mussels in marinara sauce, and roasted garlic and brie. The mussels were a smash hit, the only complaint being that it came with only a few pieces of crostini, not nearly enough to scoop up the delicious sauce. We ended up asking for an extra basket of bread to do the job. As for the roasted garlic and brie, I thought it was okay but not spectacular, while the girlfriend loved it. It came with two smears of sauce on the plate, one of which was the aforementioned mango concoction (which went pretty much untouched), and a red sauce which I didn’t get to sample because the girlfriend laid claim to it (needless to say, she liked it a lot). Still not quite full at this point, we decided on one more appy and ended with lamb chops on mashed potato. These were very good, the mustard glaze giving the meat a nice little zing, and the potato filling and hearty.

Service wise, our server was friendly and attentive. I’ve never had any complaints in this area. And as for value, well … dining at the Point doesn’t make for a cheap meal out, but considering the overall quality of the menu and service, it’s not bad either. The Point is well worth the stroll from the main drag at Steveston.

Won't go back

Ate at The Point with friends last weekend. Only 6 others in the restaurant, so obviously not busy at 7:30 Sat. night, which isn't a good sign. We shared an mixed appie platter that was supposedly "big enough for 4" - came with 2 mini crab cakes, 4 prawns (frozen, not fresh), a tiny salad, and a few slices of tuna (that was weirdly mushy). Our mains of steaks were all ordered rare to medium rare. All arrived well done. They were 6 oz. filets that had been cut in half into 2 thin pieces. Very odd. The quality of the food was not worth the high prices charged. Our server was nice enough, but not very attentive, considering she only had 2 other tables to look after. We will not go back to this restaurant, as there are many other restaurants in Steveston that are better in all ways.

Great Changes
By bethany of Richmond , BC (1 Review)
Submitted Sunday, April 11, 2010 - 10:25pm [Dine in]

My husband and I were out with friends this weekend in Steveston. We ended up going out for dinner and went to The Point where we had been quite a few times before. Loved it and so did our friends (it was their first time there). I couldn't believe some of the changes they've made to improve the ambiance. We have always liked the restaurant but felt it was lacking a bit for ambiance. Not anymore. With some rearranging of booths and tables and the addition of a few TV's they have made the restaurant much more cozy and modern. The TV's are a great addition and don't overpower the restaurant at all. A positive for playoff season coming up so I can still get my husband out for a nice dinner and he wont have to miss a game. The food and service once again was great. I have read some of the negative comments below but have always had a positive experience here. The four of us shared the appy platter to start (which is a platter for 2) as well as the mussels. Everything was fresh and wonderful. For dinner I had the halibut - which is in season right now - it was cooked to perfection. My husband had the filet mignon which melted in your mouth. Our friends ordered the curry chicken rice bowl and alaskan king crab and said it was delicious. I'm pretty sure I am heading back for king crab next weekend. Overall it was a wonderful dinner and I would highly recommend this restaurant to all. They are not right in the heart of Steveston but down by Garry Point park, it's well worth making the trip for. Great food, great wine, and great service - and reasonably priced compared to some of the other restaurants in Steveston.

The Point of NO RETURN
By KcnarfGee of Vancouver (1 Review)
Submitted Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 3:25pm [Dine in]

The food was as described, mediocre, a little above POOR.
Our server was all smiles but service was very slow.
Their description of fresh and delicious and absolutely delightful is a big contradiction for what you get when you dine here.
The platter we ordered for $25/person was a huge disappointment.
The salmon was dry and the shrimps tasted like they just came from the freezer.
Their "The Point Hotpot" was a potpourri of frozen tasting seafood smothered with just an opened bottle of marinara sauce NOT FRESHLY COOKED as claimed.
They were generous with their bread but service was still slow when you asked for more.
I will not return to this restaurant as described in my title and will not recommend or bring my friends to this restaurant.

My husband and I recently tried this place after my initial lunch booking didn't work out. The website makes it look impressive and I was eagerly looking forward to some fresh fish (being so close to Steveston dock). The decor is simple - tables are too close with no privacy and the vinyl tablecloths are not my idea of ambience. I asked upon seating if the owner was in (I mentioned him by name). You'd think the server might have taken that as a cue to be attentive. I had the seafood trio - the stuffed salmon was so dry it was like eating sawdust, the prawns had obviously been pulled off a skewer - both items seemed like they had been purchased pre-portioned, rather than fresh. My husband's curry chicken was billed as fresh cubed chicken in their homemade sauce. Every bite had a skewer hole in it!! We were planning on skipping desert, but didn't even get asked as the server was distracted by her friends that came in to dine. We had to wave her down for the bill. We won't be back and won't recommend this place to anyone.

Great brunch! The food was wonderful. The owners children were very cute, bringing our waters. The hollandaise was fantastic. Probably on of the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had. The inside is modern and quite nice. If you had ever been the the Italian restaurant that was there before, the transformation is really tasteful. This is my new favorite place in Steveston.

What a hip new spot!
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant.
A group of me and my friends enjoyed a lovely birthday party here the other night and we all had such a great time! The service was fantastic and very fast!! Not to mention the food! The Bison Burger was rich and filling! The salads were crisp and fresh with delicious dressings. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection! I would recommend this spot to not only tourists, but locals also! A great location right by Garry Point Park, and a very nice patio, which I'm sure is busy during the heat of summer.
And you must try the Chocolate Cake! You won't be disappointed!

I visit the neighborhood often (Steveston) with my husband and friends. We got hungry one day after our bike ride and as we exited Gary Point Park, we saw this adorable little restaurant. It was very inviting. Though it was a little bit hidden, it looked very clean which is what attracted us to it. Right away we were greeted and served. The staff was very pleasant and efficient. Water and coffee arrived to our table promptly. The lady server was very friendly. She didn't smile because she had to, didn't come across fake, which I was very happy about because when I pick up on insincerity it can ruin my experience all together, doesn't matter if the food is good or not. The food was very good though and the prices were fair. As we sat on the patio enjoying our food, I knew I would go back with friends. Before we left, our server actually made an effort to invite us back to the restaurant. I think that was an excellent move on her side because of course every restaurant wants you to return but this lady actually made an effort to let me know that they wanted us back. And she wasn't pushy about it. We loved everything about this restaurant, ...and isn't that the point?.
