The Pantry features a menu of Canadian family classics prepared using the freshest, quality ingredients.
I have tried a few other Pantry Restaurants, and have had very similar experiences. Food is good, though not exceptional. They have a rather limited menu, but what they have there, they do well. I don't mind ordering the same items as long as they are reliably good. Service is also friendly and prompt. This particular Pantry is quite spacious, and I had a good time enjoying a nice and quiet dinner with my husband. Will visit again if we are in this part of town.
I was in Richmond with Mrs. C, and we were looking for a quick bite. Sure there are lots of great Chinese restaurants, but I needed a big piece of beef. We spotted the Pantry and in we went. We were seated right away, but our server disappeared for about half an hour after she gave us the menus, and again after we got our entrees. When we finally ordered, I had the Frisco burger, which was a big beef patty with cheese and onions on sourdough bread. I added a Caesar to get some veggie content. Mrs. C had chicken tenders and a salad. The burger was juicy and greasy, and about what I expected. The salads were fresh and tasty, but the chicken tenders were dry and way overcooked.
I found the ambience to be nice and the w/c to be clean, but the lack of decent service was irritating. The food was just okay, and so we likely will go to another location for our next Pantry experience.
I have been here several times actually. The first few times I found the food to be phenominally fantastic, but the last couple of times it was ok to good (but not great)
I came in September of 2012 (so yeah, this year) with 2 friends. One friend ordered the Chicken Cassorole, another friend ordered the Spinach Dip and I ordered a double hamburger, chicken strips and a cranberry juice.
My friend shared her Spinach dip with all of us....It wasn't that great. and my friend who ordered the chicken cassorole said it was good, but NOT worth the $14 that she paid, and for some reason my double burger was not really that great (but not bad) The chicken strips were a dissapointment however (I would seriously rather go to 7 - Eleven and just buy chicken strips there) and my cranberry juice was almost $4 and non-refillable.
Anyhow, because of the Groupon deal, we decided to come back tonight and give this place another try with a friend of mine. I ordered a chicken wings appetizer, a double hamburger and a coke. My friend ordered a Spaghetti and meat balls entree.
Our waitress was VERY friendly, but it took FOREVER for our food to come. First came my appetizer of wings. I got 10 pieces of wings...They were good, but regular price was $10.89 (think that is just a little too steep, but suppose alot of restaurants charge that) but in all fairness, they did taste good.
Then came our main courses. My friend said that his spaghetti and meat balls tasted good, but the meat balls were too salty. My burger was pretty good and had good flavour. I think the fries though were still good were not as good as they used to be. Oh, and fries are re-fillable
So our meal regular price turned out to be $47.55 minus $40 for the groupon, but plus $20 that I previously paid TOTAL $27.55
So to pay $27.55 total for all that food really wasn't a bad deal.
However, if I were paying regular price, I would compare this place to Knight and Day restaurant or maybe even Denny's but a fancier version of it.
I would come back here once in awhile at regular prices, but with the groupon it really is a great deal (How can you argue $20 off your meal)
It was hard to find breakfast places that are open at 7am in Richmond but saw this place while driving to the airport. They had not opened up yet but waited only 5mins before they opened up. Everything there was bad. Old looking restaurant. Coffee was not good. They don't know how to make over easy eggs. I don't eat pork but they gave me bacon. My friend who eats bacon said that it was not good at all (funny tasting). I would not go back as i just wasted $30 for two people on breakfast. McDonalds could have done a better job on this.
Went here on a Wednesday night for dinner .. its Family night (8 of us).
Got seated quickly, but given the regular menus. Had to ask the waitress for the family night menus.
She came back 15-20 minutes later with the menus and said that she does not usually work on Wednesday, so did not know about the special menus.
She gave us the menus, we waited another 20 minutes for her to come back to take our orders.
The place was staffed with 2 waitress, but was almost empty, I think I saw another 2 couples.
We were planning to get up and leave, having waited for so long ... arriving at 7 and ordering at 8pm.
We finally ordered, which was quick.
Food was overly salty, but the waitress was there to ask how things were.
Overall, not worth what we paid and also the automatic tip of 15% was surprising given that we waited and waited for our menus and then our food.
This will remind me never to come back to this location, as we have had bad service before also.
Three strikes now and we will not return again.
I ate breakfast here, and the place was practically empty. I liked how it was quiet and spacious, but it was a little cold.
There was only one waitress, who did her best but had to run around since she took orders, seated people and dealt with the bill.
The food was alright. The sausage and the eggs were fine. The green onion potato pancake was rather bland, like it was hardly fried or anything. The prices are on par with places like ABC Restaurants, Denny's, White Spot, or IHOP. I would rate the food quality close to IHOP or slightly less than ABC. None of these are that great.
What a huge mistake it was to come to this restaurant. Purchased a groupon now (only valid on that day) deal. After we had been seated, the hostess/waitress said "Oh you have a groupon." You're supposed to make a reservation but since you're already here we wouldn't ask you to leave.
We ordered water and she kept asking if we wanted other drinks (3 times) We had to keep sayng no.
It took 40 minutes for the food to arrive after we placed our order. The restaurant was not busy at all.
After the waitress placed the food down, she said sorry it took so long but this is why you need to make a reservation. How can she be serious!? There were only 4 other tables in the restaurant to serve.
The restaurant is dated and getting old. There is a strange musty dam smell mixed with air freshener smell.
Food was not good. Prices ranged from 11.99-14.99 for food that seemed to be reheated from the freezer .
The Chicken Pot Pie was mostly sauce with a few tiny pieces of chicken. The puff pastry on top was so hard and not as I expected. The side caesar salad was okay.
The meatloaf had 2 large pieces of loaf with some broccoli and sliced carrots. The kids enjoyed this.
The spaghetti and meatballs was not good, Very small amount of noodles covering 3 large overbaked meatballs.
Kids chicken strips and fries was standard
The bill came to 58.00. After tax and tip and groupon, we ended up paying a total cost of $45 for mediocre food.
There is a reason this restaurant is not busy. We won't be back.
Went for dinner with my pal Jay,we patiently waited a whole 10 mins for somebody to seat us. The place was almost empty, except for one table with 3 people. While standing there like an idiot with Jay, i notice a waitress was coming towards us,so i thought. She gave me a "wait a sec" gesture and proceeded to the bar area. After another 5 mins of waiting, she finally came over and sat us. I asked her if she was the only one working tonight, she said with a blank face and said "no". Finally, our designated waitress took our order, she was friendly and quick with our drinks.I ordered the turkey dinner,Jay ordered the chicken merlot. The food was just ok,the portion size was satisfactory.Since the place is so dead,no wonder there was only 2 waitress on shift.
