Fine Italian restaurant serving homestyle Italian cuisine.
Paesano's just so so ...food hit and miss service was jaded. Did not honour an Entertainment Book Coupon @entertain_book review here. First time impressions count and this was not good . Mixed reviews are not what you want when you go to a restuarant for the forst time and also tell them that its your first time! http://www.yelp.ca/biz/paesanos-italian-restaurant-richmond
We were walking around Steveston and found an old friend - Paesano's Restaurant, from No. 3 Road just recently opened in Steveston!! The new restaurant is a LOT different from the old location - smaller, but well appointed and much less old school than the No. 3 Road version. The menu is similar, but lots of specials and the place was packed... The food, as usual was awesome, the service was awesomER and the people watching from the front window, awesomEST... Love the place, glad it's back!! If you haven't yet, try the Ossobucco or the home made meatballs - both are to die for!!!
I went to Paesano's in April and I realized that they had moved! I found this incredibly upsetting as they have the most amazing food! The service is truly great and the chef always came out to greet us. Just last weekend, my husband and I went to Steveston Village in Richmond and I saw that Paesano's actually relocated to Steveston Village. They're now located at #250-12240 on the corner of Bayview and 2nd Avenue across Shady Island with the phone number 604-270-9252. The place is now a little be more modern, the prices are reasonable, the service is still impeccable, and the food still melts in your mouth. I couldn't believe the chef still remembered us! My husband and I will definitely be going back because we enjoyed it so much!
I too, like the others, decided to try this place due to the coupon found in the Entertainment book. This place is definitely not the easiest to find - completely tucked away in a corner of a small plaza near Lansdowne and No.3 Rd. The ambience definitely has a New 'Yawk' - Italian kitschiness, complete with red checkered tablecloths and rubber fruit bowls. The female waitstaff were friendly and accomondating for the most part. I did get annoyed when I saw the 'chef' step out to schmooze with what looked like a table of regulars. Sure, he has the right to a break, but to stand there for 20-30 minutes chatting while the other watching customers are hungrily waiting for their food? Come on now.
Food was pretty uninspiring. The tomato and bocconcini salad, which was on 'special', looked and tastsed like a deconstructed hamburger without the meat and bun: Slices of beefsteak tomatoes, red onions, sliced cucumbers, lettuce, and the only thing interesting about the salad - store bought baby bocconcini. My girlfriend ordered the Seafood risotto with 'tomato ragu'. Though it more or less resembled seafood and tomato fried rice on the plate, it was fairly satisfying in a making us full kind of way. It could do without the mixture of frozen Kiwi mussels on the half-shell and baby mussels - I like my mussels to be consistent in size and fresh if possible. The baked meat lasagna that I had, however, was decent. Then again, I've never really had a bad lasagna at any Italian restaurant.
I can see this place surviving from serving local Richmond residents who feel like having Italian food now and then. I'm just glad I came to this place with my trusty Entertainment book.
We almost didn't go here. A phone call and some confusion with the food almost ended it. Fortunately my fiance's good friend had eaten there very recently and declared that the food was outstanding.
We had the brushetta, very good. The Italian Salad for two. Outstanding. Perfect blend of tomatoes, cucumbers, capers, olives, onions, cheese and lettuce. Dressing was just right. Not too tart.
I had the Penne Bombay and it was one of the best currys I have ever had. The scallops were done to perfection. Pasta was cooked right and the sauce was fire alarm hot but not so hot that you couldn't enjoy the wonderful curry flavour. Onions and mushrooms and shrimp topped it all off. Will definitely have to have this again.
My fiance, Hargow had Veal and his was enjoyable as well.
Signing off for now. Mrs. Hargow.
My family and I went out to their new location in Steveston. The restaurant is very small inside, We ordered my 4 year old son a chicken dish which was served way undercooked. This is not a wonderful thing and was surprised about this since their sign says they have been in business for 30 years. Our meals took forever and when we received them the portions were very small and tasted very bland. If this is how they are going to start in Steveston, then it is not a good start. Steveston is a small community and word gets around quick, and we will definately express our reviews to people. We will never go back. Sorry, but you had better get it together.
That is a bit of a stretch. Located in a tacky strip mall in Richmond and serving sub-par food. Service ok but food-----God -awful.
Very rude owner after discussion about our unhappiness with even the basics. Tried this place because of the Entertainment coupon. Which I am sure how they get most of their business. Note to owner....lose the Fine Dining title. Your restaurant is FAR from it. You should really get out of the business or just stay in the back. You are a huge turn off and I have discussed this with other former customers. I pity the staff working for such a man. I hope people read this review and STAY CLEAR of Paesanos. This man does not deserve your hard earned dollars. The chicken tasted off and my husband could not eat his old fish tasting seafood. Instead of trying to make it up to us the owner got defensive and combative! I have never encountered such a display from a restaurant owner. My husband and I and the rest of our party will never set foot in this place again. Consider yourself warned.
This is a cute little restaurant tucked away.
The food was good, but nothing extraordinary. Our waiter was a tad creepy (literally right in your face), & seemed a little frazzled (even though he wasn't busy)...maybe he was new!
The decor is a little dated, but that's to be expected. Sometimes the best food comes out of unexpected places!
Like many previously mentioned, this restaurant is tucked away in a corner of a street mall, so it's not easy to find.
I was quite impressed when I walked in as the decor is quite nice, very cozy and authentic tuscan villa feel (it may look quite differently if brightly lit).
The servers there are all very pleasant and professional, a big plus to the rating. My dinner partner and I both ordered a pasta dish. Price is moderate ($18-19 each), but you can tell the ingredients are very fresh, and the pasta is home-made (could be a little more al dente though).
All is all, not bad. Can be a great option for a romantic date in the neighbourhood.
we never were too impressed with Paesano's but there was enough to encourage us to return once a year (because of the Entertainment coupons.
with each passing year the food and service degenerated.
on our last visit a member of our party was offered a small ladle as a soup spoon. when I requested the female server to replace the ladle for a soup spoon she insisted that this was in fact a soup spoon. can you imagine trying to devour soup with a ladle? it was only after strenous insistence that the ladle was exchanced for a soup spoon.
that being said, no more ladles for us.
My wife wanted to go to an Italian restaurant for our Anniversary. Since our babysitter was in Richmond we decided to search around for one in the area. We read the mixed reviews on here and decided to give it a try ourselves.
I agree that the service is outstanding. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and helpful with the menu selections. She let us sample the wines we were trying to decide on which was nice. The ambiance was nice and italian music was soothing until they cranked up the volume for a couple songs and my wife and I were almost shouting at each other.
They had some restuarant anniversary special which was two entrees for $29 dollars....first course (house salad, caesar salad or soup) with a choice of entree. I decided to go with the Quarter duck with veggies and potato with the house salad to start. My wife decided to do with the chicken cordon blue with Penne pasta and to start with the Caesar. The waitress told me the chef made his own dressing for the house salad. It came and was just a bunch of organic greens that you would buy at Save-On foods with a couple nuts sprinkled on and once slice of cucumber and tomato. The dressing was very good but overall the salad was ok. My wifes caesar was decent but just lettuce, dressing and a couple croutons.
The entrees: I got a good size portion of duck. The orange glaze was very good but the meat itself was a bit tough and dry. The glaze added what little flavor there was to the meat. The veggie's were steamed and fresh. The roasted potatoes were a joke, there was only 2 of them, the were overcooked and were only about the size of the area if you put your thumb and index finger together to make a circle.
I almost laughed when my wife's chicken cordon blue came. It was only the size of a deck of cards and looked like something you'd buy in the frozen food section of your local grocercy store.....and tasted like it too! My wife said it was pretty bad and she didn't even finish it. It was burned on the bottom too. Her pasta she said was excellent and the sauce tasted fresh.
For dessert she had the tiramisu and I had the creme caramel. Both fresh and excellent and were the best part of the meal. But a bit over priced at $8 a hit for a small portiion. My wife had a cappacino which was waaaay to strong, she had to add water and extra sugar to even make it drinkable. Luckily the waitress forgot to charge us for it.
Like many on here, I'd give this mixed reviews. IF I went back I'd try the pasta which seems to be their strong point however, we would not go back there. I think there are way better restaurants out there which would give you better value and food for your dollar. For the $80 including the tip we felt a bit ripped off. We have way better meals and got way more full for way less the price.
While feeling quite bad about not truly knowing much about what my home town of almost two decades has to offer in the way of culinary delights I began a quasi restaurant tour of Richmond with my girlfriend and found my attention brought to Paesano's. We arrived around six during a week night to find it quietly populated with other couples doing the same as us, the food was nice, and we had a great time but I believe what captivated me the most was the ambient lighting and very soothing music that really enhanced the whole dining experience. Later we went out for ice cream and a walk to watch sun dip behind the horizon, and I can confidently assert that Paesano's set the tone for what was to be a great evening together.
I tried Paesano's on a Tues night. The better side of things: its a tiny but cute little hole in the wall kinda place that's decorated nicely. Music was playing softly, restaurant was clean. Service was fine. Found the tables a bit too close together. Now the sad half of things: Food was ok - nothing extraordinary. I ordered the Tortellini Panna and found it somewhat bla and undercooked. El dente, it wasn't - it was just plain hard. Not much flavor either and the portion was on the smaller size. Was disappointed to hear that bread was an extra charge and feel this should be included with the pasta dishes. My boyfriend had the Penne Bombay which I sampled and can say was tasty but again the portion was small. Love pasta dishes and would highly recommend Anton's or Anducci's instead. Better bang for your buck!
This restaurant i think is the best. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the music, and I like how its small and not too loud. The day i went the chef came around and greeted us and asked if we enjoyed the food, which we did. I ordered the spahgetti with meat sauce and meatballs, which was delicious and for dessert i had the tiramisu which is one of a kind. I recommend this restaurant to everyone
This is simply the best Italian Cuisine restaurant in all of Richmond. Met the chef and congratulated him on his excellent flavours and cuisine. Evidently he has been trained in Italian in numerous Italian restaurants in this city for over 2 decades and it shows.
All ethnic groups work here and all their services were outstanding. They were all friendly, cheerful, and helpful.
The ambiance is very nice and somewhat romantic. My fiance and I started with the Italian Salad... wow was it fresh and tasty.
She had a cross cultural dish called Penne Bombay which was laden with seafood and just beyond excellent. She claims it was the best curry she's had anywhere in ages. I had the traditional Italian fare of Veal Piccata with Penne pasta marsala which was also excellent. Although desserts looked yummy, we were filled to the top by the excellent meal. Highly recommended. A must try.
I went with a couple of friends and was pleasantly surprised at this little Italian restaurant hidden in a corner. We ordered the bruschetta to start and I can honestly say it was delicious. Soft on the inside and mildly crisp on the outside. Our server was friendly and open to allowing substitutions in our meal. I had the veal canneloni and at first sight didn't think I could finish it but ended up savoring every bite until I was done. One of my friends had the steak which was cooked medium rare just as she had asked and the other ordered fettucine alfredo which was very creamy. To finish it off we shared the tiramisu and it was absolutely delicious. The owner came out and greeted out table which added just enough of a personal touch. I will definitely be going back!
Unless you have a small appetite which I am the antithesis of you will find the portions here quite small. Certainly the smallest of the portions I have had at any Italian restaurant in Vancouver. For good value bring along a coupon from the Entertainment book. Ample parking and good service however.
I have been there twice in the last month with friends. Both times I was happy with the meal. The eggplant parmesan was good not great; but the other dishes I and my friends had were well received. Had some good wine too. The price is below high end but the overall value was good. I am sure I will be there again.
My husband & I went to this restaurant awhile ago because it came highly recommended to us. I had the Scallop & Prawns Vino Blanco and my husband had the Veal Cannelloni as well as the Spicy Calamari to start. The appy was fabulous however, I'm thinking - the cook/chef must think he can trick the customers, my dinner was supposed to come with Risotto but I got steamed rice...is this and italian chinese restaurant? Also, the Veal Cannelloni was extremely salty one cud barely eat it. The menu prices are a little too pricey for the quality of food you actually get.
It will be quite some time before we venture there again.
My husband, my teenage son and I went to dine there last Saturday and it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. There was no air conditioning and the place was stuffy. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating but she forgot to introduce the specials to us. The place was half filled that night. I had the penne Bombay which was only okay, but the Italian salad was very good. My son's minestrone was mediocre but his veal cannelloni was excellent. My husband's veal marsalla was very expensive and it wasn't very tasty at all. The portions are small and there is definitely no bang for the buck here. All in all, it was an uneven meal.
We will not go back to Paesano any time soon.
