I'm always satisfied with their "Late Night" ($13.95) menu, but I do get their "Lite Dinner" ($20.95) menu if my hunger can bear to wait until 9:30pm.
In my opinion their food is pretty much up to par with regular non-all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurants.
The pros of the "Late Night" menu would of course be the price. But the advantage of ordering from the the "Lite Dinner" menu would be certain menu items that I like:
unlimited sashimi (as opposed to a limit of 6 pieces per person on the "Late Night" menu),
chopped scallop sushi (you can only get the cone version from the "Late Night" menu ... which I find to be a lot messier),
shark fin sushi (tastes like jelly fish from Chinese restaurants),
wakame sushi,
tuna tataki (tuna sashimi that's cooked on the outside),
and New York steak (thin pieces of steak that I really enjoy it, but it might be a bit plain for others).
For either menu, I always tick off orders of sashimi, miso soup, oyster motoyaki, agedashi tofu, beef teriyaki, chicken katsu, chicken karrage and jello for dessert. These dishes always come out tasty.
Some items I don't recommend from Ninkazu are their gyozas, unagi fried rice, and salmon kama. The unagi fried rice tasted like bad fried rice with little to no unagi, and the salmon kama is just a deep fried fish head that's very difficult to eat.
This place is always busy. Always packed and always fresh. And you can order as much as you want. I've been on two separate occasions; one for a big group dinner after a wedding rehearsal and one for my Dad's birthday. Both times quick, rushed service (it's an AYCE in Richmond, don't expect less), food is pretty good and good sushi portions. I think the best AYCE in Vancouver so far; definitely giving places like Sui Sha Ya & Shabusen a run for their money.
My wife conned me into a trip to Aberdeen (even as a Richmond native, I've avoided it my whole life so far!), so I thought why not try a restaurant around there. I had recalled that Ninkazu was around there and had some glowing reviews.
We had the deluxe sushi. I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the food. Miso soup was tasteless. The tuna sashimi looked grey and tasted how it looked. Lobster sushi was tasteless. There was nothing that great about the rolls. Seemed a bit stale - how could it be that fresh when they come 2 pieces at a time. Did they make a roll of 2 just for us? We got there a bit before 6 when it was empty so that might have something to do with it. The only thing that I thought good was the tempura. Everything else was meh. There was nothing that interesting on the menu, ninkazu roll their only special item, and it just kind of looked like canned salmon. For the deluxe dinner menu, I just wasn't impressed. I think my rating of 3 is maybe even a bit generous. On a positive note, all orders came in very small orders. It was nice to have bite sized orders of sushi and sashimi. However, I think the fried food orders could have been larger. It wore me out just trying to order enough food to fill up.
Service was OK, but a bit utilitarian. Didn't start off well with first waitress blurting "regular/deluxe?" a second after we sit down and then abruptly running off with a bit of a disgusted look on her face when I said I dunno I just got here. But the manager seemed chipper and nice and our other waitress seemed decent. What irked me though was they didn't give us some of the nicer items in our sushi order, and it seemed perhaps intentional. I've gotten spoiled by places like I Love Sushi who have always given us everything, even when we screwed up and ordered 3x as much sashimi as we meant to. On a positive note they did seem to try to get soups, salad, and sashimi out before other foods, but on the other hand the motoyaki always seemed to take about 30 minutes.
For the deluxe dinner menu, I'd say the value wasn't great just because the food wasn't great. But it's all you can eat, so obviously there is some value there. I think you would do a lot better to stick to lunch or late night specials, then I think you would start to get some value.
The place basically looked and behaved like a Chinese restaurant, which never does too much for me ambiance wise. There was a very nice almost floor to ceiling glass window along one side of the restaurant, but we didn't get to sit there so couldn't really enjoy it. I noticed a fair bit of bird poop on the window, so I'm not that sad about missing out on it anyway. Restaurant and tables were pretty roomy, which was nice.
Maybe if I lived closer I might try lunch again, but no way I'd pay for the dinner again. I've been too spoiled by better AYCE and non-AYCE places.
4 of us had the $19.95 ayce plus the $3 hot pot add on. Food was excellent. Service was awesome. Missed a couple of dishes but I kind of expect it at an ayce restaurant. Seems to happen everywhere. View from the window seat was great watching all the Richmond drivers in their Mercedes. Money can't buy love but apparently you can still get a driver's license. Premise was clean and spacious. Checked out the washroom and it was one of the grandest I have ever seen in a restaurant. I will be back but only on special occasions.
Food: we ordered a variety of items on the lite dinner menu and most of it was quite good. Tuna tataki was only ok, some rolls fell apart when they reached the table and some of the hot items were lukewarm when they reached the table but no serious problems otherwise.
Service: Quick ane expedient. Tea was refilled constantly and we received food quite quickly to our surprise. Host was a little odd though - seemed overly friendly, almost bordering on sarcasm but it could be just me. Overall, I was quite surprised for an AYCE restaurant.
Value: Pretty good for the number of items you could order. Unlimited sashimi which we all enjoyed. Not a bad price per person either - 19.95.
Ambiance: Clean and if you can get a window seat, its nice to look out on the road and watch the parking lot below full of bad drivers. LOL. Looking for parking was terrible as the lot tends to be full at any hour of the day - might be a good idea to park at Aberdeen and just walk over.
Overall, I would return since we all left quite satisfied and our wallets were not seriously damaged.
There is a definite relationship betweeen new and good AYCE. Seems like they all start off pretty good and then the food and service quality decreases as the restaurant gets older. Tried the 'lite' menu as well as the hotpot. Total was $23. Seems like you can't get the hot pot if you order the deluxe AYCE menu. Basic sashimi selections, like tuna and salmon. Both were of avg quality. Sushi items were very good as well as the cones/rolls. The cooked items like tempura and gyoza were good. The hot pot was very good and for the $3 add on per person, a good value.
Mrs. C and I were craving sushi, and we tried this place based on previous reviews. We arrived on a Sunday and the place was empty. Not sure why since it looked nice, but it was quite hard to find. They have radiant heat elements in the tables, so this place must also do hot pot. The whole restaurant looked new and even the w/c was clean.
The service was okay, but could be better since we were the only ones there. We ordered a selection of AYCE items. Some didn’t arrive until I reminded the server a couple of times. What did arrive was good, especially the deep fried chicken wings and the tuna and salmon nigiri sushi. They limit sashimi, which is kind of stupid. That combined with the fact that they seem to have trouble getting all the orders to the table might also help to explain the lack of customers.
Overall, the sushi was a little better than average but not much. The price was $11.95 for lunch (they add $1.00 on weekends). The dinner price is ridiculously high. If it was a bit better or cheaper I might go back. With so many choices, I will try other places first.
this is a nice joint and is always packed for late night ayce, the atmosphere feels like a pub sometimes but sure is nice to have a tv to look at plus the place is very clean. Food is not the best however compared to other ayce places. the sashimi portions is so tiny that it is laughable, like how do you even dare serve this tiny piece of sashimi. chopped scallop cone was one of the best ive had though but that was the only highlight as everything else was mediocre. sushi = bit of fish with huge riceball.
the servers were among some of the friendliest ive seen in an AYCE setting, very fast and responsive and one even doublechecked with us to make sure we had ordered the right item because she had a feeling we ordered the wrong item. Amazing from an AYCE place.
Nonetheless, the worst thing about here was the timing of food arrival. your first order = sushi came extremely fast while some fried items came way later to the point where we were wondering whether we should order them again for the second round. When we ordered those items again they ended up coming afterall so we had to eat double the same item. also lets not forget that the second order came realy slow prob because they want to give some time for the rice to expand in our stomachs.
My friend and I were hungry and he balked on my typical comfort food choices so we settled on trying this place out. We actually showed up at a little past nine, but feeling cheap we waited the extra 20 or so minutes to do late night dining for $12.95.
Busy as heck we waited roughly 15 minutes before being giving the choice of dining at the bar or continue waiting. We chose the bar. Compared to the rest of the establishment, the bar was pretty crappy. The rest of the restaurant looked pretty nice and considering the hoards of people, it wasn't noisy at all.
We ordered 2 rounds off the order sheet with the typical lineup of cones, rolls and cooked items. Other than some small quips on a few dishes, the rest were pretty good, actually better than expectations.
Service is near non-existant, mostly because the staff are so busy with taking and serving orders and cleanup. In spite of this, they are quick at clearing out our dishes at the bar and were polite when we interrupted a server going the other way for a teapot refill, so be prepared to wave someone done for anything. A decent enough job in my books.
Not a bad place for the hungry hound glut.
Food: I think this is one of the better AYCE Japanese places. The salmon nigiri tasted very fresh. Really enjoyed it. The chopped scallop cones are pretty tasty too! My only complaint is that it lacks variety. The lunch menu doesn't have stuff like oyster motoyaki, which a place like Richmond Sushi has (although keep in mind this place is cheaper). Nevertheless, what was available was good.
Service: Waitresses could have smiled more, but overall, not a big problem since food came in a prompt manner.
Value: Super value! It was $10 per person before taxes and tips for lunch.
Ambiance: The tables are really big, so it was kind of awkward sitting so far away from the person in front of you. However, if you prefer more spacious seating, then this place is good for you. Clean restaurant.
I will definitely return!
My friend and I was craving Sushi the whole day so we decided to stop by. Usually my expectations for AYCE is pretty low because I understand the concept of mass production in a short time period. But as the food begin to arrive, I was pretty satisfied with the quality of the food, it was quite tasty. HOWEVER. One thing about this restaurant is they skimp on the orders, we clearly marked down 5 orders of a Dynamite Rolls.. however we only received 2 pieces. And that was it. There were no second trips with anymore orders. This happened with most of our food too, mostly sushi and gyoza. That was quite irritating, but we figured we could just do a round two on the sheet.. low and behold.. THE SAME THING HAPPENED. We tried to flag down a waitress to ask her about it, everyone seemed busy and basically avoided eye contact with us. In the end we just asked for the bill.. which I may ask was the toughest thing to do. When we finally caught a waitress, she hurried over to the cash register and took forever counting money for another customer. She never brought us our bill so in the end after 15 mins of waiting, we just got up and paid her directly at the cash register. We just guesstimated how much our meals after tax and tips would come to and just handed it to her. (Btw we still never got our bill), we never even got a Thank you, come again.
Overall? Decent food. Service? Ha, that's a joke.
The food at this restraunt was horrible the fried vegtable and the rice we ordered included greasy vegetabes which on first bite you knew they were frozen and only costs $12 (are you kidding me).
The fish was not ok, we also ordered the beef to avoid fish which tasted like nothing more than a plain meat in sauce on a plate .
I have never been so disapointed at a restraunt before especially paying a good price for the meal.
Service was your typical oriental japanese
I would not even think of wasting your money to eat here
I love coming here for all you can eat. The service is always fast and the servers are friendly. And it is soooo worth it to come here for late night all you can eat. One of my favourite places by far!
Just remember to make a reservation if you plan to go on weekends for all you!!!!
I was introduced to this place while on a recent visit and am happy to say I was pretty pleased with the experience!
We'd made a reservation for a party of 8 or so people for the late-night menu at 9:30 on a busy Friday. Thank goodness we made that reservation because this place was packed! We waited about fifteen minutes or so before being seated, which wasn't bad considering how busy they were.
My friends with me there told me that with a party our size order more than what we wanted, because the servers won't always bring back the amount you request. This turned out to be true, but it wasn't an issue for us since we could just put out another order. For being a full house that night our waitress did a good job with checking up on us, and our food arrived fairly quickly.
The food itself was great! I remember the salmon nigiri, pork katsu, and goma-ae standing out the most. I've been to a lot of sushi places in other areas and this one definitely stacks up with them with the quality of the food here - not knock-me-off-my-feet amazing, but very solid and well worth what you pay for.
All in all it was a great night out and I can see why my friends come here regularly! I'll be more than happy to come back to this place again.
Came here for a weekday dinner and ordered from the "dinner lite" menu. Quality is about the same as its sister restaurant, Tomokazu on Broadway, but I find the atmosphere in this one more comfortable to sit in. Service here is also better (from this experience anyway). From the minute we walked in, we were greeted and shown to our table promptly. The servers were polite and smiling, even joking around with us.
Onto the food - again like Tomokazu on Broadway, it's hit and miss but in general, fairly priced for fairly ok food.
Good: salmon kama, salmon sashimi (soft and buttery in texture. very, very nice), miso, green salad (with added lemon for a burst of freshness), tuna sashimi (fresh)
Not -so - good: mango pudding (plastic aftertaste), sumonomo salad (1 lonely piece of baby shrimp in a pure vinegar dressing... it was overpowering and sour), korean bbq pork (while tasty, it was quite burnt)
As the previous review mentioned, oysters and seafood motoyaki were served in foil shells instead of real ones. The sushi overall (including lobster sushi) was not very good, but edible.
Food: was standard for AYCE. Liked the fact that their rolls and cones weren't overstuffed w/ rice like some other AYCE places.
Service: was great compared to other AYCE places. Staff actually smile and acknowledge you!
Value: prices are around the same as other AYCE places.
Ambiance: looks clean and new. The only thing bad is trying to find parking.
We went for lunch on a Sunday, and luckily everyone in our party got parking in the small busy lot, otherwise I don't know where else we could've parked. The restaurant wasn't busy, which was surprising for a Sunday lunch time. I was expecting a lot, given the good reviews here, but I was not blown away at all. Selection was small for lunch, but I did like that they had cones. The motoyaki was not good. It was served in little tin tart cups and was too greasy. The rest of the food was ok, the best was the chicken wings. The funniest thing is the way our dessert was served. We had 6 people, and ordered 6 servings of jello for dessert. What came out was a plate full of little jello cubes. We had to eat it with our chopsticks on our plates dirty with sauce. Not sure I'd go back again for lunch, but dinner looks interesting with hot pot.
Had late night dinner here a few days ago and found their sushi and sashimi better than average quality for AYCE places. The rolls I found not really good, and the motoyaki I tried was really just some baked fish, which was okay at best. The BBQ salmon cheek was surprisingly good.
Ambiance was pretty nice, and service was friendly and fast. The main problem is they messed up at least one thing on my order every time, which is strange since you order by ticking off what you want on a sheet.
I'm not a huge fan of all you can eat but I thought I'd give this place a try since they have great reviews here. They are located on the 2nd floor in a lil plaza.
The place is spacious and comfortable with huge windows facing aberdeen centre mall. The service was good, the girl server was very smiley.
We had lite dinner special at $19.95. They also have the deluxe special for $3-4 more which includes more choices of sashimi. They also have hotpot for a few bucks more.
Food: I must say that their food is above average. The sashimi is pretty fresh. The food (sushi rolls, cones, etc) is presentable and quite good.
This place is good for very hungry and/or big eaters. I think it's a pretty good deal for $20.
The last time I went there was very dissapointing. I was suprised because this place used to be good in ayce standards but I wont step foot in there again. Almost every cooked food was cold. The oiliest tempura I have ever seen and I have seen alot. After 3 orders we never received our short ribs but saw other tables getting theres on a regular basis. Also I am probably one of the few who orders the salmon head when I go out for sushi and this time it seemed like it had been in the deep fryer for days. Luckily there are no shortage of sushi places in the lowermainland to choose from.
