In Richmond Chinese food does not lack in finding a chinese resturant. However to find, almond chicken, beef and broccoli, sweet and sour pork etc.is hard. three of us we had a 75$bill but we ordered 7 dishes that came as HUGE quanity. When we were done and full it looked like we didnt even touch our plates.
Many Combos and one dishes
take out and delivery.
Owners were very funny and nice.
For a so so decor chinese place i noticed it was clean.
I would tell you when you order.order all the sauces on the side because you will take home half your meal. no one likes soggy almond chicken.
We took out Salted Fish Fried Rice, Fried Pork Chop, and Fried Wonton.
The meat in the wonton was as small as your pinky. The fried pork chop's meat is so thin and the rest is batter. With these two dishes, we felt like we were eating grease because of all the oil in the batter and the wonton wrapper. And they were not good. The fried rice was mediocre. We've tasted other a lot better.
We are staying away from this place. We will never even recommend it even if it was the last Chinese place around.
I was so glad to see the New Hong Kong Restaurant in the reviews.
I and my family have been eating at 'Pop's' (Ken)place since they opened.
Although there very many other chinese restaurants in Richmond we always hold this place as our favorite. Yes, there are other restaurants with better service, more menu items and better facilities but overall the New Hong Kong wins out.
It's pretty basic, little ambience, but the food is fantastic .... especially if Ken, himself, does the cooking. He'll prepare the food as you want it and stays away from using a lot of MSG as most other chinese places do. You can also bring in your own fresh seafood and he'll cook it up for you for a very reasonable price.
A 'Mom and Pop' place that is well worthy of a visit. I agree with the other reviewer - you will be hooked after eating here ..... give it a try :)
