"Super Vietnamese Baguette & Asian Pacific Cuisine"; Small restaurant in Continental Centre; Closed Sundays.
Went here at lunch, the place was nearly empty. Usually not a great sign as the other restaurants nearby are normally quite full.
Proprietor was friendly enough, okay for this kind of place. At least it looked somewhat clean and neat in here.
We all had noodles. Definitely okay, though I didn't really see much on the menu here that was outstanding. Decent portion size though, especially since price seems to include all taxes.
I would come back if I needed some munchies during the workday or something, but I don't think I would bother making a special trip out here.
Food: Been searching for a place w/ good Vietnamese subs, came here on a friend's recommendation. Judging by how many people come just for their subs and seeing how many people came to pick up multiple take out sub orders, they must be tasty! Tried them, good but not great: not enough pickled veggies, sauce/seasoning/spices for my liking. On the other hand, loved their noodles: huge portion, texture just right (not mushy or sticky). They also have a variety of other Vietnamese (vermicelli noodles, salad rolls, lemon grass chicken), what they call "Asia Special" (Phnom Penh noodles) and HK style (noodle soups, milk tea, bubble fruit slush) dishes on their menu.
Service: We were seated and served tea quickly, but food came out somewhat slow. Place was very busy, always a line up, saw that they were clearing tables, seating and serving people as quick as possible. Server/owner was very polite and helpful. We actually came before but they sold out of their subs, so she suggested that we phone in to check and preorder (guess this happens often) and told us very nicely that we could come back another time (ie wouldn't mind if we just left). She also helped us pick from the menu. Heard her striking up friendly conversations with the other customers as well.
Ambiance: HK cafe diner style but small, tables closely packed. Place looks clean and bright. Washroom also clean (a bonus for an Asian restaurant in Richmond).
Overall good, cheap, casual dinning.
the pho broth here isn't that great, there seems to be more oil than average. the vermicelli bowls are a good valued size. but the big sell out of this "baguette" deli is the vietnamese subs. thinly sliced cucumber, and the perfect amount of black pepper and magi does the body good. order subs ahead of time, 'cuz it sucks watiing in the not so spacious restaurant.
Regular patron of the place, moved along with them to this current location from Cook & 3 Road. Still return frequently.
Service: Amazing memory!!
The owner memorizes the order and doesn't need to write it down! Also, if it's not busy, she will talk with you and teach you how to properly eat the cuisine!
Food: Short of fantastic, but good bang for the buck!
Would definitely recommend their baguettes, they are the MOST exceptional in the region. The pho is standard though with limited choices.
Ambiance: Homey!
Green interior which is not that appealing, but I'd give it a pass as it's very clean.
New Asia deli is a place that doesn't stand out when you look at it, but after eating there, you would want to return. That is why lunch hours are packed now! Would definitely recommend the baguettes even if you are having a pho!!!
