Terrible Food, Slow Service
By Food-Goddess of Coquitlam (96 Reviews)

Came here for Mother's Day dinner last night. When I first arrived, I had to wait at the door for a while before someone finally came over. It was definitely not the type of service I would expect.

Our server came over soon after my party arrived to take our order when we barely had time decide, so we asked her to come back in a few minutes. Those few minutes turned into almost 15 minutes before our server came around again, and she excused herself by saying that she thought we were still waiting for another person. There were 5 menus on the table, 5 people sitting at the table, and she has already try to take our order once, can it be more obvious that we were a party of 5?

Anyway, we ordered the calamari to start and chicken tenders for the kids. We ordered the rack of lamb, a steak sandwich and a paella for myself. The food took a really long time, and when our starter finally arrived, we were eyeing the plate of food in front of us suspiciously because we have never seen calamari in clumps. We decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and I took one of the clumps and took a bite and almost couldn't spit it back out fast enough. Raw batter!!! It was totally disguisting!! We had to sent the whole thing back and decided to just wait our entrees.

And waiting was exactly what we did for what felt like an eternity. When the food finally arrived, it was definitely NOT worth the wait! My mom's rack of lamb was well-done when she ordered medium rare. My mussels in my paella were uncooked, fishy and disguisting. The veggies tasted like they were only tossed in there at the last minute and were tasteless. The carrots were cut the size of my fingers and were still very crunchy. My brother's steak sandwich came at least a full 7 minutes after the rest of our entrees, and when he cut into it, he found that his medium rare was cooked to well-done again. He had his steak sandwich redone, and the second attempt was slightly better but not by much. The most edible thing that night was defintely the onion rings that came with my brother's steak sandwich.

Overall service was slow and unattentive. We often would have to almost wave our hands in the air to get our server's attention despite the fact that there were only a few tables. Our water glasses were only refilled once in the entire night. However, she was at least attentive enough to noticed our dissatisfaction about our food and offered a discount on our bill, so her effort is worth noting.

It's been a while since I've had to send so much food back in a single meal. Definitely will not be back.

Great wedding venue!!!

My husband and I had our wedding here (in their bigger banquet room) in July 2009. We had our rehearsal dinner in the Lakeside Grill and BOY was the food good!! The portion to price ratio was phenomenal! ALL our guests were SOO full after the meal and very satisfied with the quality. We felt proud to have treated our wedding party, family and friends to such an awesome rehearsal dinner meal. We really didn't know what to expect at the restaurant but we were really surprised. The food for our wedding was also top notch. ALL our guests raved about the food selection (we went with the highest menu choice for the wedding) and the presentation of the food was also fantastic. I heard that recently there was a fire at this venue and that they won't be opened for a while and that sucks because my husband and I were planning to go back here for our 1 year anniversary dinner together but that's ok. I hope they get it back up really soon because this is really a great place to go eat at...even if you're not playing golf. The view from the restaurant is also gorgeous!

Great Food, Great View, Great Service!

I had a large dinner with friends and family here and had a fantastic time. The food was pretty good and service was above average. Our waiter was very polite, friendly, and our food was on our table very quickly after ordering. He knew what he was doing; and brought out our cake without being asked at exactly the right time, and he already had the candles lit and two employees came out and cut the cake and served it very quickly to our large group. Our waiter even offered to take pictures of our group (also without asking) which I appreciated. The ambiance is great and just driving up the long, well kept driveway bordering the greens to the clubhouse is a visual treat in itself. My guests were very impressed by the landscaping, the ceiling-high windows enclosing the restaurant (and what a VIEW!), and professional service. The restaurant was actually very empty at night when its not summer since no one golfs, so my guests enjoyed the privacy (and no doubt that the speed of service was partly because of this). And the food is fairly priced at generous portions, and what makes this place great is that they have food from all cultures and their menu is very diverse - some of the stuff we ordered were burgers, Pad Thai, calamari, linguini, Mongolian hot pot, quesadillas, and clubhouse sandwiches - so everyone's palates were satisfied. And when I saw what our bill came to I was surprised because it was lower than I expected, INCLUDING the 17% tip that was calculated in (for groups over 8 people). My only complaint would probably have to be that the washrooms aren't that great, ther and are located in a different area of the clubhouse (none in the restaurant). Also if you plan to go here and catch the game, go somewhere else, because there are only 2 TVs, and one of them is a little obstructed from view. But overall, my experience was great. If you ever go here, ask for Robert!

Mayfair Lakes hosted one of our company events last week and we had a fantastic experience! The sales department was very diligent in organizing our evening and the servers in the restaurant the night of were second to none. We had 60+ guests and there were so many great comments on the food and the bartender (Ryan?) was a pleasure to deal with - very knowledgable.
As we have said in the past you've exceeded our expectations! We have never had an issue with our invoice or bar bill, in fact this establishment breaks down the alcohol comsumed rather than invoicing in one lump sum.
Highly Recommended......bring your friends and family as you will not be disappointed!
We will certainly be back.....thank you to the entire staff.

Best Schnitzel outside of Vienna

This is not my first time dining here, but it was my first time trying the Schnitzel, and I have to rave about how great it was!!

It came with a generous serving of side vegetables (red cabbage, broccoli, roasted potatoes) and the two pieces of breaded pork cutlets were super tasty and tender. Everyone at my table tried it and regretted not ordering it (although they were enjoying their dinners as well).

At only around $16, this was fantastic value!!! I will definitely be ordering it next time I'm there.

Poor Experience

We had an event catered at the Lakeside Grill. It was a wonderful evening. The food was decent for a buffet and the ambiance great.

We prepaid for the food, wine and puch. But when the bar tab came we were shocked. We were appallingly over charged. We asked them to review it and they came back to say they were a business and do not over charge. This forced us into the awkward situation of asking our guests what they had to drink that evening. This was our closest family and friends. They would not lie to us. In the end the difference between what we were charged and what we consumed was huge. We went back to Mayfair Lakes and they would not admit any wrong doing so basically they were calling me and my family and friends liars.

Do not have events catered here. They cheated me, they could do the same to you.
