Why hasn't this place gone out of business yet?

This isn't a palace let alone a restaurant.

Too bad there isn't a negative star rating here. The service here was not only bad, it was non-existent.

I came here for a late lunch, so yeah, my expectations weren't high too begin with. But this place had me gob-smacked when they couldn't even do a lunch service properly.

I ordered a BBQ short rib set. The meat was okay... That's why I put gave a 2 star food rating. The sides were piddly. And I didn't get any rice... Definite problem here if this dish was set menu. The servers saw me waiting for something, not touching the dish, but nobody came to see what was wrong. There was no quality check. How can you have a short rib meal set without any rice? The real kicker of this sad excuse of a Korean restaurant was that the owner even saw me not touching my meal and didn't see anything wrong with the picture... She just kept on chatting away with the servers, who weren't so keen on serving.

Don't go to this place. You'll be wasting precious time from your life that can be spent elsewhere. Go to Jang Mo Jib that's just up the road instead.

Worst Service EVER!!!!!

I went here recently with a friend and we had the $25 dollar all you can eat menu. We went in at 10pm and there were only a few tables there. One of the servers told us that the last call for food was at 10:45, but the menu said they were open till 1am. We decided to do it anyways and give it a try. We ordered around 8 different items in total. We wait 15 mins to get our order in cause no one has walked around to even give us tea. We first get the bbq meats and then the tempura, it took 10 mins to get that. The remaining 6 dishes did not appear, they finally came around to let us know that it was last order. We told them that we have ordered 6 other dishes and they acted like they didn't know. So an hour comes by and another 2 plates come. I ask them where the remaining 4 dishes are, and they said they were coming. We had to beg for plates like North Korean refugees. What I don't understand is why I have to keep asking 2 or 3 times for the dishes that I have ordered an hour ago. My theory is that they don't want to serve all that food to you and hope that you are already full. They had 4 servers chatting it up doing nothing, and they didn't come to check if anything was needed, and when they were at neigboring tables they will ignore you like the plague. I was quite furious at that point, I wanted most of my plates to come all at once so I can have a variety of food, instead of eating the same dish for 15 mins.

The food might of tasted better if I weren't so furious about the service, but I have had many korean places and this ranks pretty low. Meats were not marinated well, seafood pancake was undercooked(like sloppy uncooked eggs), sushi was very low grade.

My advice to you is go to Jang Mo Jib.
This place does not know how to treat a customer, I get better service at Mcdonalds than this place.

Much better than before

I have been to this restaurant last winter with my family, but the service was poor and the foods came out really slow. So I decided to never go back. But yesterday (saturday) I had to go there for my friend's birthday party and the changes were surprising. We had AYCE menu and the foods were excellent! They came out really fast and the service was much better. The price of AYCE was about 25 dollars but I thought it was really worth it. We had non-stop BBQ party yesterday.

Initially, my family and I were going to go to No. 9 Restaurant, but after looking through the window, we decided to take a chance on this place. We've never tried Korean BBQ and I didn't know what to expect. The decor was elegant, and when we were seated in the semi private dining room, we sensed we made the right choice. We ordered the all you can eat, and what a bargain for 24.00 a head. Awesome fried seafood ~esp the prawns ~yummy with the sweet mayo sauce.
The seafood pancake is a must as well. Don't forget the meat dishes for the bbq. Ohmygoodness, too much to eat. We didn't get a chance to try everything.

The food surpasses the service. But the staff was still attentive and polite!

If you try it, I'd recommend the all you can eat, as it looked a better deal. Give it a shot. I was impressed, and I'm known to be " picky".

While the pseudo-european decor may impress at first, you'll be lucky if you can get any decent service.

I've gone twice with a friend. The first time around, we waited about 5 minutes at the front to be seated, watching servers come and go, but no one paying us any mind. Eventually, a woman came around and seated us. We decided to just try one thing first, see what the food was like, then come back another day. $23 for 2 slabs of meat- could barely feed a person. Tasty, but definitely not worth the price.

Their all you can eat special, at $24 per person, is a much better choice than ordering a la carte. Just make sure you order everything you intend to eat the first round. Once you've made your initial order, you'll probably be abandoned and/or ignored for the rest of the time (I'd suggest ordering SEVERAL glasses of water ahead of time, as refills are near impossible to get).

The food was delicious, admittedly- try their beef specialties, as well as the soups and fried rice. The deep fried chicken dishes and appetizers were also quite good.

Overall, if you don't mind poor service and just want to get absolutely STUFFED for $24, I'd recommend the place. If you're going with friends though- trust me, skip over this restaurant if you don't want to ruin your day together.

Possibly one of the worst dining experience in my 35 yeats

No concept of customer service whatsoever. Arrogant owner/management who doesn't give a damn what you think or if you come back or not.

Came here for $17.95 lunch BBQ all you can eat. Price is not cheap for lunch so I expected a half decent meal.
Wrong. Marinated Beef came totally unseasoned, no sauce, no marinate. In fact all but one meat item came marinated. When questioned the waitress simply stared at me and said she doesn't know anything and walked away, no attempt to call over the manager or correct the situation.

Steak and chicken were not sliced for you (came in a big chunck) and I was told to use the scissors to cut it myself. Wow, I am paying $18 to cut meat? I was totally confused and angry as the same time as I rememberdKorean BBQ to be completely different when I last tried.

Having given up on the meat items and decided to order the salmon roll which is included in the all u can eat menu. Waitress' response was a again a simple "NO, we don't have it" and walked away. No attempt to cross it off the menu or inform the customer when first seated. After making a big fuss the owner told the kitchen to make the salmon roll for me. Turns out they do have the ingredients, but of course cost cutting seems be the management's only focus here.

Over an hour and half passes and not once did the waitress change the charred and blackened cooking element for us. Nor did the waitress turn on the bbq for us when our meal began. Both of these are standard services at most other Korean BBQ restaurants.

Completely horrendous dining experience.

Tasteless BBQ Meat...

We passed by this place a couple times and thought it would be a good place for korean food, but it turned out to be a real disappointment. Honestly, in my opinion, this is really the worst Korean BBW restaurant I've ever been to. The BBQ meat is tasteless - it's not even marinaded - and the portion of the food is not even enough for 2 people and yet the combo menu said it's for 4 people. At the end, the waiter forgot to serve us the sweet soup. I have to say that the server's attitude is not bad really, but the food really sucked!

The single worst service in any restaurant we have ever been to. Was there with my husband on a weeknight. They were not particularly busy. We ordered two dishes. After waiting about 45min, only one dish arrived with no explanation for the missing second one. Another 15 min pass and a waitress told us the kitchen had made a mistake and not even started on our second dish yet. Waited another long period of time and finally decided to give up and get the bill. My husband never got his food! We were very upset and told the waitress specifically that we didn't think it was reasonable to pay the full price... so they gave us a TWO DOLLAR discount!!!!!!

Bascially, never eating here again. The worst dining experience ever. It was like pulling teeth to get anyone to even talk to us, much less apologize; just full of excuses.

I came here when they first opened and had a terrible experience, but I am all about second chances so I came to try Kyung again. I ask myself why??????

First off, the waitors and waitresses are unresponsive to the customers. That's sad, considering that there was a sufficient amount of staff present when I went. The 5 items for $25 bucks is a rippppppp off, so don't do that. The 5 items I ordered were over cook and warm and tasteless. One of the items, the squid and kimchi pancake, was so greasy that I could not eat it. My friends had a bit of it and left the rest for the garbage.
I ordered the clay pot rice and wish I had not because the price was ridiculous for what I got: a THIN layer of rice with the usual veggies accompanying the rice where the rice was overdone and the veggies were alittle wilted.

I will never come here again, there are many other korean restaurants that are miles better than Kyung, so don't come here you'll be wasting your money.

My bf and I went to try this place out of the curiousity of trying a Korean AYCE. We walked in at around 7:30pm and was told the wait would be a half hour. Some 40 mins. later, we were finally seated and most of our food came out relatively quickly. To say the least, the food was pretty good and there was a large variety to choose from. Even though some of the items didn't appear as appetitizing OR as large as they did on the menu, but that's a given I guess. The service however was in its own league. The pattern of service went something like this- the first server would take our order and then disappear for god-knows-how-long. Then we would re-order it with a second server, at which point, the order comes promptly. At the end, we asked TWO different people for our bill and waited impatiently for 20 mins. In the end, we just went up to the counter to pay. It was pretty freaking ridiculous. This a decent place to try for the experience and the food, but be prepared to spend your evening waiting.

My sister and I came here for lunch last week after shopping at the richmind centre.
I ordered tofu soup and my sister got the rib combo. After waiting for half an hour waiter brought us some side dish and it took another 30minutes for the food to arrive.. but then again the restaurant was busy and we weren't in a rush so it was okay.
Yesterday I went back to try their soy bean soup. both times food was good, price was right and service was alright.
I will come back again and try something new next time.

My kids and I love their food very much. We go there once every week. But 8 out of 10 times we have to wait for our meals for an hour. Our last time there we express our anger and then we never go there again. Now we find a nice Karean restaurant with great food and great service-Dai Jang Kum located on St. EDWARD DR IN RICHMOND.

It's interesting to see the divergence in opinions on this site. My girlfriend and I have dined at this restaurant three times and enjoyed the unpretentious environment, excellent value ($20 for 5 dishes after 9pm) and solid food. We've been full and satisfied every time, and really appreciate the diversity we can have in a meal for two, especially since the restaurant also provides the standard banchan dishes (potatoes, kimchi, bean sprouts) with each meal.

The bibimbap, jap chae and short rib were comparable to the other reliable Korean landmarks I dined at in Downtown Vancouver. I particularly enjoyed their kimchi pork dish. None of the dishes left me thirsty and the flavours were balanced overall. As I recall there are over 15 dishes one can choose for the 5 after 9 deal.

I haven't had the AYCE BBQ or ordered from the standard menu yet. I see there are some traditional Korean soups and stews I'd like to try sometime. They have bo ssam, which is the inspiration for one of David Chang's signature dishes - can't go wrong with pork butt!

I can imagine that some people wouldn't be happy with the service, as the servers do get quite busy and it's quite a large restaurant. However, when we got their attention they were always helpful and provided what we asked for. For the prices they charged, I thought the service was quite good.

The restaurant can get a bit smokey if you are sitting close to tables that are barbecuing, so it's probably best if diners leave their wool coat/other fancy clothes in the car, lest your coat smell of beef short rib.

Where is our order?

We did the all you can eat BBQ / sushi. The food does taste good (depends on who is cooking) and is if of good quality. The major problem we experienced here is that we ordered sushi and it never came. We were there for 1 1/2 hours and we asked about the sushi 3x's. They just say they will check on it. When we got the bill, it was listed on the bill but quantity was 0. Looks like it was entered into their system, and that was it. If they were out then they should have said so.

Another poor service attribute would be not clearing empty dishes and drink pitchers from our table. They would come by and drop off new dishes but not take the empty ones. They were eventually removed when asked.

While the food that did come was good and the restaurant itself is in good shape, the failure to deliver what was ordered is unacceptable.

Worst Dining Experience Ever

I know a lot of people are exaggerating when they say ''worst,'' but this definitely is not an exaggeration. The service was atrocious.

Our family had AYCE during their dinner period. After the standard 'sides' arrived and some of the meat for BBQ, nothing came over again. After waiting 35 minutes, I went up to the counter where the food was being put out for the servers, to inquire. The waiter was rude, saying that they were simply busy and that we just had to wait. I informed him that it has been an unreasonable long wait and then politely, but firmly asked that they check on our order. He then just quickly grabbed what seemed to be a random order and said it was ours (it was in Korean so I couldn't read it) and again just rudely said we had to wait; there clearly was no order to those order receipts on that counter.

After another 15 minutes, I spoke with the first worker I saw to ask for the manager. The worker could barely speak English and just ignored my question and just like the other guy, told me that our orders were coming. After this second visit, they finally started bringing things over, but had most of our order incorrect!

The food was only 'okay' and many menu items were not available though they were on the menu. DO NOT visit this awful restaurant.

Food is ok but service is not that great

We went for lunch with our kids and ordered the choose 4 dishes for $19.95. We ordered the bulgogi ($2 extra), seafood pancake, jajangmyun and some udon dish. I was surprised the portions were regular sized. The food was great and I enjoyed them since I love korean food a lot. I thought of ordering extra but we were full.

Service-wise, it took a few times to holler a waitress (no bell on the table. strange for a korean restaurant). I asked for a scissors from a waitress, she went and never came back with it. Had to ask another for it.

I have come to a conclusion (after eating in most of the top korean restaurants in the lower mainland) is that if you aren't a Korean or can't speak Korean, don't expect top service. To me, as long as the food is great and the service is so-so, I don't care much.

I went to this place last night for family dinner. It looked like it was a full house. The place was well decorated as a Korean restaurant.
Considering the number of tables cooking bbq, it wasn’t that smoky. We had AYCE BBQ for $20 since their regular menu didn’t have much choice to select.
The reason I give them a plus is for the beef sirloin which was a typical steak size; yet I have never seen restaurants serve sirloin for all you can eat. The marinated short ribs were well marinated and tasty. The soups itself was solid, not amazing but ‘okay’ for AYCE.
Service was not bad. At least we got everything what we asked for. They changed our bbq plate regularly which I hate to ask for. It was better than most of the Asian places since they could understand English!
Overall, I will definitely come back for their sirloin and their side dishes (very tasty sweet potato)!

I have been to this restaurant many times since they open. It seems their quality is getting down and down every year. I went there last Saturday for lunch, and my friend and I order $20 for 4 dishes. The price is really cheap, so we did not expect dishes will be same amount as reqular menu. We order pork Bulgogi, Korean Style Miso Soup, Spicy Rice Cake, Grilled Monk Fish ($2 extra), and Seafood Pancake. First dish is Bulgogi, it served by pork belly instead of pork sirlon showed on menu, and pork belly with skin and pork hair. Korean Miso Soup only served less than half full, and the taste was poor. Grilled fish was good, and spicy rice cake is great and excellent. We only got 3 side dishes.

It is a great idea to have this lunch sampler menu to let people try many flavours, and customers will know what they like to order from regular menu next time. However, it is very disappointed that Kyung Bok Palace did not keep the same quality as it from reqular menu. We complaint the pork bulgogo to the waitress, but she said may be kitchen can not find sirlon pork.

Two weeks ago, I order Kimchi Gigae to go. Once I got home, I found out they did not give me side dishes.

Before I wrote this review, I just saw their inspection report. It looks this restaurant's kitchen is not very well organized. I do not think I will go back again.

I've been to this restaurant quite a number of times. Although the food isn't incredible but it's decent. I really like the atmosphere here too. Here's a review of my recent visits.

I went there about 2 weeks ago for lunch with a friend and we had their $20 for 5 items menu. There's quite a variety on that menu and their portion is fairly reasonable too. I highly recommend it. Their service was pretty good too since it wasn't too busy.

A few nights ago, I went there again but for AYCE dinner menu. It was my first time trying their new menu (they used to have one last summer too but it was $25/person with much more items). I didn't like this menu as much since there weren't much to choose from. I was seated inside a separate room, and it was a bit busy that night so the service wasn't great. We always had to try to get the waiters' attention, but nonetheless, they were very nice and patient.

I can't believe it I went out dining at this place with my family and friend and the service is really poor after bringing the food to our table the waiters dissapear, also the waiters doesn't seem like they understand english they had us to repeat mutiple times to get what we needed. I don't think it's a really great deal to pay $19.95 BBQ menu before tax and tips for only 10 items on the menu this is unbeievable, there is no choices to make on the menu, the setting there is quite nice, the food there is okay nothing incredible. I just know that I will never go there ever again, it is dissapointing.
