Went for lunch here and found this to be a great spot in the centre of Richmond for Korean food. They have some well priced lunch specials and the service was great. Will definitely be returning to try some more items from their menu.
My guest and I were totally disappointed. 1st came was Beef Bi bim bap, you got a tea spoon beef with limited veg and a whole egg for $14. 2nd came was the spicy chicken, taste OK, $13 for a boneless chicken leg (too small even for my boy). 3rd came was my Ginseng Chicken soap which should come first before everything. The soup, the chicken was tasteless. Korean Ginseng soup always comes with a whole ginseng but this one has none. Instead, they gave you a big ginger. I bet the make it in a big pot and add water whenever the needed, $17. I felt so embarrassed for the food and I said to my guest let's order one more dish. We end up having ice cream on main floor.
I would say that Kimchi Nara is one of the best choice for korean restaurant IN RICHMOND. The food is pretty good and consistent, the best deal would probably be the lunch deals, apparently though I heard they jacked the price up by a dollar or 2. Good bibimbap, the restaurant is owned by a couple I think, the wife, who is also the cook, is korean and the man is white and works the front. Sometimes when it gets busy it can be a little slow because at lunch it is just the man working but foods good so who cares.
I am glad that the reviews that were submitted for this place was legit. Ordered the spicy chicken and beef bulgogi, both were very good, and the portions were reasonable...and larger than most Korean restaurants. Was offered seconds on the side dishes...which were all pretty delicious. Ambiance is not fancy, but its clean and bright....the washrooms were clean as well. Did not have to wait long for the food. The place is WAY better than Kyung Bok Palace and Jang Mo Jib. Definitely would be back!
Located near london drugs the restaurant itself does not have much in terms of ambience. However it more than makes up for that deficiency in all the other areas of importance.
The level of service and food are top notch. Items worth mentioning include:
-Soft Tofu Stew
-Kalbi BBQ
-Spicy Pork
On their lunch menu are delicious and reasonably priced. Furthermore, they keep in stock a delicious korean drink that has entire grapes in it.
Recommended for anyone seeking out a quick and delicious lunch during their busy workday.
First things first, this restaurant can be a bit tricky to find as it is on the top floor of a plaza and cannot be seen from ground level. (It is directly opposite from Milestones and London Drugs) I was extremely surprised that nobody had bothered to post a review about this restaurant yet! (well, even without mass publicity this restaurant has managed to stay open since 2000 A.D.)
I decided to visit this place for lunch with my family on a Thursday and the place wasn't too busy around 12:30. I wasn't expecting much from the get go due to the few customers inside and the clean but not too fancy ambiance. We ordered the lunch special (spicy chicken and standard beef) along with the ginseng chicken soup and the bibimbap (heated stone bowl filled with rice and other goodies)
Spicy Chicken - This stuff was okay, slightly above average but not spectacular.
Beef - It was really standard here, I wasn't really impressed because I known I could have gotten a better cut
Ginseng chicken soup - Wow, this soup was tasty without any apparent spikes of MSG! In your serving bowl, they actually give you a whole chicken stuffed with sticky rice which was naturally flavoured by the chicken and the broth
Bibimbap - This stuff was awesome! I don't know why it tasted so good; the bibimbap seemed pretty standard but the execution was definitely excellent: a "must have" on their menu.
For a one man (or woman I should say) kitchen, the dishes came out at a good speed without unnecessarily long waits. The husband (waiter) who serves is extremely soft spoken but bent to please. (hint: If you don't like kimchi, he'll bring you another side dish)
The food here isn't cheap, but it really puts out relatively good tasting and authentic Korean food. It doesn't leave that oily-I-want-to-puke feeling you can get after eating at cheap Korean restaurants with badly prepared food. If you're ever around Richmond Centre or Chapters on No. 3, definitely drop by for a try.
This is definately a great place to go for a casual meal. The food is delicious and the service is great. The food is a little pricey during dinner hours, but at lunch, the price is just right.
They definately have the best bi bim bap in Richmond and matches up to the bi bim bap i've had in Korea. The bi bim bap is definately their specialty and is a must try if you decide to go.
Korean food is hit or miss. This place has always been good.
Been here 10-15 times with the work crew. Always consistant, always good. White guy at front of house and his Korean wife and family cook.
It can be quiet becuase of location but always has a regular crowd.
Soft tufu stew is great and the bimbi bap is severed in a smoking hot bowl as it should be.
Will continue to go with work crew. I recommend trying it.
I wasn't expecting much when I first went there, the place didn't look like something out of the ordinary, but was I wrong! The Bi Bim Bap is a MUST TRY! It is served scorching hot in an authentic stonebowl, be careful or you'll burn yourself. The rice is heated to a crisp with the heat from the bowl, and the toppings are all delicious too. The spicy chicken is another must have for spicy food connosueirs, its served on a hot plate with generous amounts of chicken. No lack of flavour in there. You should give this place a try if you're a fan of korean food. The food served here is pretty difficult to top.
I've been a customer for years and the food NEVER dissapoints. Bi bim bap, Jam Pong (Seafood Noodle Soup), Soft Tofu Stew, and Spicy Pork are very nice. The complementary apps are awesome as well (potatoe, kimchi, raddish, bean sprouts). The service (which really is only 1 guy) is good so long as it's not too busy, mainly because it's really only 1 guy working the floor. The only thing is the prices have gotten a little bit out of hand, even if it is the best Korean place in town. What we like to do is go there for lunch and head downstairs to Mario's Gelati for dessert, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm unbeatable combo!
After eating here last night, I said to my wife "That was one of the best meals I've had." I've tried several other Korean restaurants before (Jang Mo Jib, Wang Gal Bi, Da Rae Oak) and while they were good, this place really impressed me with their food. The Duk Bok Gi was amazing as well as the Kimchi Noodles. Everything was packed with flavor. Service was also excellent. They were very friendly. The menu items are a bit on pricier side compared to other Korean restaurants, but I would gladly pay the little bit extra for better tasting food. I'll definitely be recommending this place to friends.
