My Favorite Sushi Place with Specialty Rolls at Cheap Prices

This now my all time favorite sushi restaurant that serves really creative rolls . Prices are the lowest in Lower Mainland for this yummy creative rolls. It would surprise me if I found a place that makes sushi better than this place. I've attached pics ....because a picture is worth a thousand words. The rolls I ate ranged from $4.25 to $5.50. Soooo good. Doesn't put a hole in my wallet. Also this place has daily specials on some rolls. Ex. 20 piece rolls for 6.75, etc. Worth checking out. Party trays also available ...and when you buy 2nd tray,.... it's 1/2 price. Yes!

Definitely My Favourite Place For Specialty Sushi Rolls
By I Love Food of Vancouver (1 Review)

(Read the last paragraph for a summary of this review)

The first time my girlfriend and I went to Jumbo Sushi it was completely spontaneous. We had just exited Richmond Centre with a craving for Japanese food. However, there were no cheap, nearby Japanese places that we were aware of and we were also strapped for cash. We decided that we would check this place out and if it was affordable we would try it.

We entered the building and were greeted by a very nice man and woman. They offered us their menu and not only were the prices agreeable but they had a very interesting selection of specialty rolls! We ordered:
- Supreme Mango Roll (avocado, crab meat, mango inside, topped off with mango on the outside)
- Hawaiian Beef Roll (beef and pineapple with teriyaki sauce)
- Red Roll (a spicy roll similar to a Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll, unfortunately I can't remember the exact details)
- ... and a few standard rolls (salmon, california, etc.)

We ordered and took a seat while we waited. The first thing we noticed was the lack of personality that this place has. The interior is functional but definitely not fashionable. There's a lack of colour and the lighting is much too bright. The place does nothing to enhance your eating experience but the only reason that ambiance gets a 2 from me is that I've eaten at much sketchier places than this.

The second thing we noticed was that we had been noticing the the lack of personality for half an hour and still didn't have our food! The place wasn't even busy! It was honestly just us and one other family. We were getting very impatient. The food finally arrived forty minutes after we had ordered. My girlfriend and I rushed out and were pretty much set on never, ever returning.

We arrived home shortly after and made ourselves comfortable in front of the TV. I was still very upset when we opened up our food. I decided to try a Red Roll first and the second I put it in my mouth I melted in my seat in pure bliss. I cannot describe in words how amazing I thought this roll was without dropping a few expletives. However, that's a different review for a different site. I excitedly tried the Supreme Mango Roll and wow, exact same feeling! The ingredients were very fresh and the flavours meshed so well together. The rolls themselves are large in size, incredibly satisfying in terms of taste, and for less than five dollars they're a complete steal! I instantly forgot about how beat up the place looked and how poor the service was.

We returned a second time. Again, we ordered for take-out, this time it only took half an hour but this time I noticed why. There are only two-three people working in the restaurant at the same time and yet they put so much time and effort into each and every single roll which explains why the rolls are well prepared. Again my girlfriend and I left regretting going and yet again we changed our minds right after digging in!

We have learned the lesson for you the hard way.

If you are going to order sushi from Jumbo Sushi order an hour ahead over the phone for pick up. This way you will not be frustrated by the long wait time and you will not be forced to eat in such a bland looking place and you will still the receive the most incredible sushi for the most impressive price.

Great sushi but needs a different environment

My friend and I tried this place after we did some shopping at popeyes. I was reluctant to enter because the restaurant looks so outdated and unwelcoming. But the sushi is very good. My favourite rolls are the jumbo spicy tuna and jumbo spicy salmon. The service is not that great and they take a very long time making your order. But for value and quality I would say you should try this place.

Me and my boyfriend's favourite

I first visited this place in 2004, and I thought it was pretty cool how it had the bamboo and wooden seats and tables. However, recently, they had changed to IKEA stuff, which makes it look more cafeteria-like. I miss the old ambiance!

BUT, my boyfriend and I love this place. We always go here, pre-ordering just to speed things up. Nothing can compare to the quality and freshness of sushi that they have here. And the price is really cheap, and great for the quality of food.

Although they may be slow, it is worth it once you start your first bite on that jumbo california roll (or whatever it is you're consuming). it's so tasty, combined with the wasabi and the soy sauce. we always order a bento box g, chicken teriyaki roll, and a mango roll if available. and it is soo worth the wait and the non-original IKEA furniture.

ps. but im glad that they're making enough profit that they even upgraded their stuff to IKEA.

Richmond Olympic Sushi Experience

Walking back from the Richmond O-Zone, the wife and I were looking for a bite. Jumbo sushi didn't look that inviting but she wanted Sushi so we thought we'd give it a try.

The food was excellent. She had a Bento Box with excellent tempura among other things. We shared an order of Gyoza as a starter, again excellent, and a large Sushi tray. Fish was fresh, rolls nicely prepared and fairly large.

The service was friendly but slow and hard to come by at times. Ambiance was ramshackle Ikea, could use a bit of design help and capital it seems. Plastic cups for tea, no cup or straw at all for can of pop. No liquor license.

Overall, great value for Sushi. I've been to places that serve larger rolls actually but here the quality was superior. Good choice, will return for sushi fix.
