Hue Cafe serves a menu of Vietnamese cuisine including subs and pho.
We were in Richmond with a craving for pho and we happened to stumble onto Hue Cafe. Its located in a strip mall on No 3 Road and doesn't look like much on the outside, or the inside. We both ordered the beef pho soup as its called on the menu (they only have one pho option). We also got an order of spring rolls.
The soup comes with rare beef and beef balls. The broth flavour was good although the noodles might have been overcooked and were really clumped together. The size was kind of small with no option for a larger size. The spring rolls were real Vietnamese, skinny-style spring rolls although not my favourite, they were still decent.
Overall the food was fine but given the lack of pho choices on the menu at Hue cafe, I probably won't return.
Tiny little place here, but nicely organized and well kept (i.e. clean!). The staff here (well, I guess maybe it's the owners) are quite personable and friendly.
The menu is quite small, but perhaps refreshingly so. Instead of 20 different pho's (which to me have all be roughly the same), there's just one. A handful of subs, rice dishes and a version of pho ga it seems.
The subs were good, very good. Okay, it may not be the best in town, it may not be even worth a trip here just for the sub, but they won't disappoint. Had a special which was a Thai noodle salad. Right, so it isn't exactly authentic Vietnamese, but it is good. Highlight was the lemon grass chicken rice. Wonderful! The chicken was perfectly done and by far the best we recall from recent memory.
Definitely recommended. Maybe not for an exclusive trip (except, we may have to try the chicken soup and see if it is up to snuff), but excellent choice if you're in the area.
Had the beef pho & sub combo, chose their Vietnamese ham sub (they also have chicken, beef and meatball subs), also had the lemon chicken w/ rice and a salad roll. Their pho and salad roll were average in price, portion and taste. Their sub was above average, very tasty compared to other Vietnamese restaurants around Richmond: Just the right about of meat, pickled veggies and sauce, bread was crusty and slighty chewy. The lemon chicken was disappointing. Although it tasted good, the portion was too small for the price and the chicken was mainly skin.
Place is small but very clean. Service was good. Menu is limited: Pho, subs, salad rolls, spring rolls, beef stew, chicken curry and French style coffee. None of the other usual Vietnamese food or drinks/desserts offered by most Vietnamese restaurants around. Would definitely recommend their subs.
I have visited this little place a number of times and usually order their Subs. Had their Pho once and it was fine but the Subs are what keep me coming back. I always get their special sub.
I always wonder what is in the meat mixture as well as some of the other ingredients in Vietnamese subs but the taste, value and french buns always seem to win out over the curiosity factor.
Though the price of subs here are a buck or two more in some of the other locations around the lowermainland the consistent quality here is worth the extra coin. The restaurant is always clean, owner and service pleasant and decent ambiance add up to a good experience.
Vietnamese Sub value puts this meal on the top 5 list of good bang for the buck for a lunch especially in comparison to the fast junk food options around the GVRD.
The restaurant was clean and well kept, but very very small. I can't imagine what happens if this place gets very busy. I guess this also accounted for the menu on the wall consisting of about 10 items. More selection would be better, but the size of the reaturant would explain this I guess. I would not go here with a large group of people, I would say maximum four.
The pho (beef noodle soup) was very good and it didn't taste like the soup was from a mix. The meat portions were very generous, but the bowl of noodles was very very small...I was expecting bigger portions.
The chicken subs are the most popular menu item for a reason- really good. Made fresh in front of you. The owner picks up the French baguette rolls from this awsome bakery in vancouver and they are so delicious. The owner also makes his own pate that has a great flavour. You can really tell the effort and love for food that this guy has. He loves talking about food and is always perfecting his recipes and working on new stuff. The spring rolls are good too. I've never had anything bad here. For under $4 it's a great deal for a delicious sandwich. Why bother with subway when you can get a homemade, marinated, toasted, fresh and vibrant sub like these?
I was a repeat customer when I lived in Richmond and now make periodic trips just to stock up. Clean place with good food at decent prices. House special baguette, the owner makes his own pate which he puts into the sandwich, good enough to sell on its own. My favourite are the salad rolls and he makes up his own peanut sauce which is quite yummy. The veggie spring rolls are good too. Thai salad is not Vietnamese but a nice serving and tasty. I often get the curry chicken and the beef stew, great with noodles or with bread, to take home. The owner only has had the place for about a year and has trained his staff to make his menu so the wait time on food has improved but he is very particular about the bread being fresh from his supplier so you can find that he is out of baguettes later in the day, but that is just a good reason to order some of the other food. I totally recommend and his hours are quite long for a little place so makes it a good last minute option.
I decided to check out Hue cafe not too long ago when I was craving for some Vietnamese subs, and I'm definitely pleased with my experience. The subs are delicious and priced pretty well, and their lemon grass chicken was very good too. The service was polite and friendly. The interior while not spacious, is comfortable nonetheless. Would definitely recommend.
I eat at this restaurant a minimum of once a week and am never disappointed. The food is always delicious and very fresh. I am addicted to the PHO and the subs are fantastic as well. The owner is very friendly. It is a great restaurant to order ahead if you are having a business meeting. This is the kind of restaurant that you don't get tired of. Try the Hue Cafe and see for yourself.
I had never really had vietnamese subs until I decided to pop into this store a while back. The owner is a really nice guy who told me that the grilled chicken sub is popular. So I bought one and ate it at home...and now it's one of the restaurants I go to the most. I have tried subs at other Vietnamese places but NOTHING compares to Hue Cafe. My favourites are the grilled chicken and grilled pork subs. They also have pho, lemon grass chicken etc. which I have yet to try.
Service: The young owner is very friendly and he remembers what we had talked about at my previous visit. The women working in the back do not speak a lot of english, but they still give you a warm smile when they greet you.
Value: I feel jipped at other vietnames places when it comes to their subs because they're really unpleasant in comparison to Hue Cafe ..so I'd say the value is very very good. I think it's about 3.50~4.50 per sub, depending on the meat you choose.
Ambiance: Very small place with maybe 6-8 small tables? Most people probably get take-out.
Everyone I've told about this place have fallen in love with the subs too :)
Everytime I go to Hue Cafe, I always order a Vietnamese sub and it never lets me down, it is so delicious and reasonably priced. Basically whenever I'm hungry and want to get something awesome, I go to there for a grilled pork Vietnamese sub. It also comes in ham, meatball, chicken, and what they call the house special, which includes several fancy meats. I like pork the best but they are all tasty.
The other day, I had to study for an exam so I got a Vietnamese iced coffee and a grilled pork sub. That's a nice one-two punch if you ask me.
Chicken Pho is also nice.
Nestled in a strip mall across from Richmond Center mall... not a big restaurant But once you had a chance to taste their food, you will be addicted and hooked on it!
I have had many Vietnamese food in my food ventures but after tasting their food, I've had to admit it is Incredible! My favourite dish is the Stew Beef noodle soup. I have had many different ones from different Vietnamese restaurants, but none can even compare to Hue's. I never finish the whole bowl of soup but I did! It's that yummy!
Their baguettes are absolutely awesome! My husband had the Chicken Baguette and he had to admit that it was totally incredible. He had tried a few before from different places but this is his most tastiest one that he'd had.
I can't wait to try all of their dishes! TWO THUMBS UP!
The owner of the Cafe is very personable and very accommodating. He takes great pride in the Quality of his food being served.
The variety of dishes they offer are all very unique in itself with a lot of love put into to create such Incredible tasting food.
You have a customer for life! I look forward to sharing this Cafe with all my friends and family.
Try it to Believe It!
This cozy restaurant provides excellent service & food that will leave a great, lasting impression. One should definitely try the noodle soups & baguettes. I've been to this joint many times and never once have I been disappointed with the food. Everything is cooked & prepared to perfection; the flavour I'd always bang-on. My suggestions: try the lemongrass chicken, beef noodle soup, beef stew. In fact, try it all!
Although I enjoy the food, many time that I have gone, he has ran out of the ingredients to make what you want.
For example, my sister and I ordered 2 orders of salad rolls (4 in total) we recieved 2 after 45 minutes of waiting, and after waiting 10 minutes for the other one, he told us he had run out of prawns. So I ordered the chicken, and we then had to wait another 45 minutes for that order. And after that whole ordeal, he wouldn't even offer us a discount. Almost 2 hours we waited for 4 salad rolls. It's insane. Other times, he didn't have what he needed to make the Chicken Noodle, so instead he would bring the beef, and I do not eat red meat.
All in all, service is terrible.
I'm never going back.
This personally is my favorite Pho house in Richmond. While the menu is very limited, the food you get is very good and clean. Salad rolls are also very good as are the subs. When the restaurant first started up there were some issues with not being able to provide some ingredients (one day they didn't have Beef Pho, another time they used cilantro instead of Thai basil), which was not very good considering the limited menu, but on the last few visits everything has been up to par. For a good quick meal I would highly recommend it.
Recently me and my girlfriend were driving around looking for a place to have a quick bite and stubbled on this place. We decided to check it out. When we got in I asked the guy what was good here? He said replied that everything was good. I laughed and told him that I have heard that one before. He told me to pick anything on the menu and he is sure that I will like it. So being Vietnamese I thought I might try out some beef pho while my girlfriend had the beef stew with bread. When I tried it I was very impressed that someone so young can cook pho that good. The beef stew was really good too. I've eaten at a lot of pho places and this is the best by far. It was also very cozzy. We ened up eatting there every weekend since. We feel at home there. Especially the music and just the vibe of the place. I would recomend this place to anyone that is looking for a nice little cafe to relax and enjoy good food.
