Chinese BBQ Meats
Went here with my daughter and had the Roasted Pork and my daughter had the BBQ Pork. Both meats were top notch. We decided to eat there and it is your typical wonton style eat and go kinda place. I would say that this is more of a takeout business. This HK style bbq is different than the others around town. One of the best to be sure.
This restaurant was a disappointment. They gave me 1 day old BBQ duck as a cut of meat that was so fatty and lots of bones with hardly any meat. Then the BBQ pork was burnt that I couldn't eat 33% of it. Parts of the meat were also quite fatty that I couldn't eat. The meat looks big in the picture but only about 40% of it is actually edible.
I would say that this place is a rip-off and not a good value at all. I've had way better places to eat at for Chinese BBQ. At least the meat didn't taste like it had much MSG. That's all that I could say.
Will not be returning, ever.
My husband and I went today for lunch after reading all the good reviews here. Even that we were expecting a good BBQ pork here, as everybody say, we were positively surprise for the super tasty meal. They had BBQ pork and soja chicken with rice for $6.50 as the lunch special and that is what we had. The service was good and fast. The place was almost full even that we arrived a little bit late for lunch, at 2 pm. The meat was moist and delicious. We will return!
I went to this restaurant for lunch today as I read several positive reviews. I ordered the roasted pork and bar-b-q duck with rice. the meal was very delicious but I was a bit disappointed with the menu selection. If you enjoy chinese bar-b-q dishes and don't really care about the decor, this is a place for you.
One of our friends strongly recommended this place. Usually, we go to the BBQ place inside Parker mall. I was told that, someone from Hongkong once said that this is the best BBQ place in the world. You can't find something as good as this in all Hongkong. Wow, that was pretty bold. So I couldn't wait to try this place. My first visit I tried their bbq pork and roast pork on rice....and it was very very good. Honestly, this is the best BBQ pork I've ever tasted...I believe it was the choice of meat they use. They use a rather fatty pork and they barbecue it till they get some burn marks (give you the extra crunch). Now, the roast pork is very crunchy outside and moist inside (even after we take home and microwave them). Somehow, the skin is thicker than any place I've tried. The only downside, my wife pointed out is that the meat scent is very strong...smell like a pig.
On our second visit, we ordered bbq pork, roast pork and chicken soy sauce combo. The chicken soy sauce is surprisingly very good. I'm usually not a big fan of this particular chicken but this was an exception...I love that ginger green onion sauce they put on top of the chicken.
Overall, we are happy with this place and the price is reasonable. Next time I'll try their roast duck (but I heard that it wasn't as good as the one inside Parker Mall).
My friend told me this place was the best out of the best. I'm like how good could this BBQ stuff be? so i went there with my friend and i had the roasted pork and the bbq pork. It was amazing, i thought the skin of the roasted pork was a great experience. Its crispy to a point where its not hard. I went to some other places and they ether was to hard or too soft. I also loved the soup (of the day) I was pretty amazed that they dont put any msg in it. I thought the ambiance was pretty good, i dont no about others but it really had a HongKong style feeling to it because the place is always packed and the feeling of how busy it is.I also thought the service was great, the boss i think or manager was really working up with the customers. i see him walking around trying to talk to people. he was trying to make the customers feel welcome. Overall i think that they are the best hk. style bbq place.
I had their take out meat before and it was wonderful. My favorite was the crispy roast pork. The other day, I had to pick up something from Superstore and decided to stopped by HK BBQ for a quick lunch. Although, the sign said it opened 11:00 a.m., the door was opened at 10:45 a.m., so I went inside. I was their first customer. I ordered their soup of the day which was bitter melon soup with pork ribs and it was delicious and no MSG. Also, I had their soy chicken and crispy roast pork on rice. For $6.49, it was worth it. The meat was so tender, it melt in my mouth. I ate slow, savoring every mouthful of meat and slurping my bittermelon soup. But by 11:05, the little place was packed...... sigh....., so I quickly hurried up my lunch.
The service was great, my tea was filled w/o asking and my food came quick. The owner came out and greeted several customers and asked about the food. He didn't asked me as I had my mouth stuffed with food. But he went back behind the counter and watched me savor the meat.
The place was small, I mean, very small and it was cleaned. A great place to stop by for a quick bite to eat..... if you can find parking.
After all the glowing reviews, especially about their roast pork, my sister and I had to try it out for ourselves. We walk in at about 4pm and there was a line-up, I guess for take-home BBQ. I grabbed a seat while my sister lined up. The owner(?) noticed me looking for a seat and quickly swept in and said that there was no need to line-up - just take a seat and they will do everything.
It's was very strange for me to receive such great service in a chinese eatery.
We quickly got utensils and tea, we ordered a 2-item BBQ with rice each (mine with lemon tea and my sister's with daily soup). Within minutes, our food was at the table. We agree with other reviewers about the cackling - it was most enjoyable. However, mine came extra fatty and we both found it to be quite salty. Still, nonetheless, very tasty. BBQ pork was lean and tender.
Portions were large - tons of meat. 3 people could share 2 plates and be full.
Service, as mentioned, is quite different than usual. Both people we encountered were extremely friendly. The gentlemen made sure to make conversations with everyone to make them feel welcomed.
Ambiance: the eatery is very small, but tables are far enough apart that you wouldn't feel cramped. My only complaint is their excessive use of styrofoam. Styro cups, stryo plates, styro take out containers. Using them solely for take-out is acceptable, but when you're eating in, and they already have ceramic soup bowls and plates for vegetables, I'd prefer it if they spared a little more and offer eat-in meals on real plates too. But then again, because the place is so small, maybe they don't have dishwasher?
this place has the best roast pork, bbq pork, and soy chicken ever!! better bbq duck else where though
it's comfort food for me because i know i can count on its quality anytime i go there. soup and veggies are also great.
service is great, the line moves really quickly even during rush hour. when you eat in, they quickly serve you your tea and your order comes really quickly. i once got there when a lot of them were having lunch (around 230pm) and the manager quickly put down his bowl of rice to get me tea and get my order.
however, the floor might sometimes be slippery (oily) so be careful
great food, great price, friendly staff... what's more comforting than that?
I have to agree with the previous comments. The roast pork with crispy skin is surely the best in town! Good price and good quality! Sometimes the line-up is long but it's worth the wait! The place is quite small so I usually prefer takeouts.
I am in total agreement with previous critiques. The roast pork is awesome. I stopped for some take-out and am I glad I did. Wanted to try the soya chicken and duck but found them to be too expensive. The pork cost $2.00 a pound more than other places but boy was it good. Duck and chicken cost a lot more. How can you justify $18.00 for duck when other venues charge $10-$12? Maybe when my 649 comes in I can return and order to my hearts content.
Short , quick review. Since living in Richmond and having opportunity to try so many places, I have to say that BBQ Master is Number 1, Absolutely the best for Roast Crispy Skinned Pork.
None other has this unique and non overpowering flavor. Seasoned perfectly. A meat is definitely 5 star. The eating venue is just your normal Wonton house style.
Pretty darn good. Luv artery clogging bbq. If I could, I'd probably eat it everyday. Their bbq duck has just the right amount of fat & the skin is sooo crispy and just delish. I really enjoyed the roast pork. Love crackling. It was amazing.Soy duck & bbq pork was pretty good too. The service was prompt & our tea cups were always filled. This isn't really a restaurant but more of a takeout place with a 6 or so added tables. This plaza is a bit odd, the layout is quite strange, but it's a great place to pop by for a quick bite if in the nightmarish area of #3 road
This place only does one thing ... HK/Chinese style BBQ stuff (which includes roast duck, BBQ pork, roast pork, soya chicken).
Most people probably just do take-out, the place is much like a small food court stall almost, so forget about ambience.
Oh, but the cha siu and roast duck were pretty damned good (haven't tried the other ones yet). You can get a rice plate with 2 for $5.99 and with 3 choices for $7.50. You can get soup too (which is home-style, slow cooked Cantonese type and NO MSG).
Is it the best, is he really the BBQ Master? I'm not sure. We'd have to do a pretty good blind taste test to determine. But it is really good and well, factor in the price, you can't really beat it.
