This place is selling a lot of their "deals" off different Groupon-like sites. Do not get fooled by those "deals" as the food is simply not worth it.
The service is mediocre at best, the ambiance is what you would typically be expecting of a Chinese dine out place. They have improved their decor a bit but now it feels more like that you are paying for the decor than the actual food.
For king crab eaters, this is not the place to be. They fake the weight of the crab and over state it by at least a good 4-5 lbs. Their food is prepared poorly and the soup we ordered tasted as if it was prepared prior and just reheated.
It is one of the most overpriced place that I have found lately. Definitely not worth the time and effort to visit. You have been warned!
The location is previously Sammy J Peppers. Now it is a Chinese restaurant. Without a complete renovation, it is like eating dim sum in a Western restaurant atmosphere. The interior seems unfinished. The floor moldings are removed, so the carpets don't cover the entire floor. Some of the walls are not finished with metal switch boxes sticking out. Service is not good either. Waiters don't look at customers when they walk by, so it's hard to get their attention. Their food is overpriced. My rice wrap came with very sweet soy sauce and their shrimp dumplings tasted very plain. If they charge as much as Kirin does (or even higher), I would expect similar food quality and service. I don't think I will ever go back.
The restaurant opened in March 2011 and my first visit was in April for lunch. There was a line up and even though the service was slow, the place was clean and food was good though not great. My second visit in May was a nightmare. The crowds were gone. We waited for 15 minutes for ordering and that too after a lot of waving to grab attention. The food was ok but the service continued to be poor. When we were finished, we had to wait and wave again to get someone to get us the bill. I gave my Amex card and I was told that it was not accepted even though they had signs on for American Express cards. I had to go to the counter to pay with a visa and I was told to pay cash as the credit card machine was not working. Fortunately I had enough cash that day. Would not know what would have happened otherwise. Before leaving, I went to the washroom. It was a mess with stench and wet floors with you know what. The paper dispenser did not work and the good old hanky that I always carry saved the day for me. The place is a disaster. Will never return.
It is a case of great potential lost due to poor management, bad service and cutting corners by the owners.
Although my previous post was 'mysteriously' removed, I just felt obligated to tell you that I had one of the most disappointing dining experience last weekend. Their dim sum was nothing out of the ordinary and so was their location but their service was just terrible. Never invite your friends there if you don't feel like having an embarassing or frustrating dining experience. I'm never returning again . As I hate ending things on a sour note, I would say their bar looks great, thanks to Sammy J Peppers.
