Food: Everything was ok. Had the chicken teriyaki combo which comes with the typical california rolls, tempura, miso soup, etc. It reminded me of all of the other Chinese-run Japanese restaurants that are around (ex. Daimasu) - come to think of it, most of the people working there were Chinese so I wouldn't be surprised if it were in fact one of those restaurants. Not that it's a bad thing since the meals are cheap but at the same time, there is nothing extraordinary about the food.
Service: Very mechanical so orders are taken and food is delivered in a timely manner but nothing out of the ordinary though.
Ambiance: The place looks really nice from the outside but inside was a completely different story. It was very plain and there were pictures of their specials, rolls and different combos that were taped all over the walls which made the place look cheap. I think with a few more decorations and a little less pictures, this place could be really nice. But, as of now, it looks like a Daimasu.
Probably won't be returning since it's located on the outskirts of Richmond and the food wasn't spectacular enough to warrant a drive out there, esp.when there's so many other restaurants that are just like it out there and closer to home.
Was looking forward to having dinner with my friends (2 of them).
Service was friendly for us and ambience is good. Had a pleasant dinner and when I got home an hour later I had vicious cramps and ended up throwing up and having the runs for 2days. My friend also had the runs.
I informed the restaurant manager and he said he will look into the food quality with the kitchen. He offered a full total Amount spent as a gift coupon to the restaurant.
I don't think we will be returning to this restaurant.
I usually come the often but this is the worst visit yet. We were seated first and the table who came 10mins after us was served before I even ordered . I called out for help more than three times . All ignored. They made eye contact and was so obvious they knew we were ready to order but they only walked by us. By far the worst service yet. Simply horrible.
was going to order a takeout sushi tray from sushi-han, ended up getting some from Hananoki.
Food quality was outstanding: fish was really fresh, sushi rice done just the way I like it (kinda el-dante but not to the point of being very chewy nor too soggy/pasty-like. Vinegar added just right.
My only disappointment is that the price is a tad on the high side when compared to many other local (those highly competitive takeout ones in Rmd area), and the portion was a bit small.
Highly recommended after a few disappointed visits locally within the past 2 weeks.
Will definitely re-visit again (Takeout/dine-in).
I was brought here by a friend and was skeptical of how this place was going to be. However, it was great and I have returned a few times since. The main thing that I base this review on is the sushi as it is some of the best I have had in the area and I am a frequent sushi consumer. The rolls are large and have a good value. The food presentation on both dine-in and take out is appealing and uniquely laid out. The fish is fresh and you can see the prep chef cutting it up as the kitchen is visible by customers. I really liked my sushi, but they have a great menu of unique dishes including great Japanese and seasonal items. The prices are fair and standard for the area.
The service is standard, quiet and humble and the atmosphere is open and lit well.
I have recommended this place to others and they have felt it was really above the rest as well.
Came in with a groupon. Most places have fine print about what you can't and cannot order, and it was the first question I asked once we were handed the menus. We were told exactly what was part of the groupon promotion. As it was a $20 coupon, and we were prepared to order more than that as a base price, we asked if we could order from an item that was on promotion, pointing at the item whose promo price was printed clearly on the menu...the waitress quickly said "yes". We ordered the items, but when the bill came, the item on promotion was regular price. We spoke at length with the manager (both sides being equally courteous) on this. His explanation was, understandably, that items on promotion can't be combined with other promotional offers, pointing at the printed text below the menu items. We told him we understood this, which is why we asked the waitress for clarification. He stepped away briefly to confer with the waitress, who confirmed to him that she told us that it would be regular price. Neither me nor my wife heard the "regular price" comment from her initially, and explained it so. We wouldn't have ordered the item had it been regular price.
In any case, he did honor the price in the end, but I'm not sure how to evaluate the service. On the one hand, the wait staff did not explain their promotions clearly, but the management was willing to fill in that gap.
The food was great. They have some speical rolls and suishi that other suishi place doesn't have. I will recommend their signature roll. The watiress was surprisingly friendly, and price is alright. Got 10% off and free ice-cream using the qooway card. Who can say no to ice-cream? The ambiance was acceptable, nothing fancy, but I only care about the food. Will go more often for sure!
I came here a few times, once, sometime last year, once, a few weeks ago, and again a few nights ago. First time I came here the food and service was excellent. The second time i went here, the food was worse, servings were less, and the service was getting worse. I thought nothing of it, but when I came in a few nights ago, I knew that I would never eat here again. First of all, when i walked in, I was ignored by all staff members. I had to wait ten minutes before i got a seat . It wasn't even busy. After that, I when i was seated, many Asian people came in after me. They were seated immediately and served, while I had to wait almost 15 minutes of waving my hand in the air. Makes me wonder if they ignored me because my friends and I were white. I only think this because of how two other caucasian couples had to wait like we did, whereas all the other customers got seated and served immidiately.
And now, onto the food, the food was horrid. Only go here if you want a few tasteless chunks of meat served with very little rice. Their tempura was complete crap as well. I will never come here again
Look out for a little chubby worker there. She had attitude and was the staff member that had ignored us . She did not have a name tag though.
This place is close so we have been there several times but I have to say food quality is hit and miss (not something restaurants want to mess with). Sometimes everything tastes fresh and delicious and I wonder why we haven't been eating there more, but then the next time things don't taste quite as good as the last time.
Service is usually ok but sometimes the restaurant doesn't seem as clean as it could be...which is a big thing for me (i.e. sticky floors or table).
So, roll the dice and go here or try a place that is dependable such as Ichiro in Steveston or Takeya on the way.
This is like, the only decent Japanese western-style restaurant I can find in Richmond. Food is not all that exciting me, but I still like coming here to enjoy a mix of Japanese and Western food. The sushi/sashimi is okay, but not worth the visit if simply for this. The pasta/rice dishes are all very large. I enjoy the clam soup and the kushi the most.
The food here is good, plain and simple. They have some very tasty Rolls here, better than your average Sushi place. Everything else is pretty standard fare. I would recommend this place. Not too much else to say, decent service, not over priced. The atmosphere is clean and typical. They have some good deals if you get takeout depending on what day it is.
I love this place!
It offered great Japanese food and it was also presented very well (some were so good that I didn't want to eat it).
Their sushi was fantasic and their udon and yakisoba were delicious. Me and my family always eat at this restaurant when we want some good Japanese food that is not too expensive.
The Chicken Karage & Tempura Udon are my favorites.
They also offer free delivery like pizza companies though the food is way better =D
Free california roll on take out orders over $25!
I've been to many many different Japanese eateries so I can definiately compare like with like.
I must say going here last night was a breath of fresh air, I usually see this place on the way by but never stopped in to try it out. I'm glad I did.
The staff was very attentive and the food and tea kept on coming. The food was of a better than average quality and tasted very good. Also there is a little treat once youre done your meal!
Prices are quite reasonable and the servings are not skimpy. I will definitely be returning.
PS- If you get take out and spend $25 you get a free California Roll.
