We have never been treated so poorly in our lives.
We should have left when we were ignored at the hostess stand. The sign says please wait to be seated, but when will we be seated and how long should we wait? People kept walking by the front entrance, but no one sat us for at least 10 minutes and it was not even busy. Even the phone at the hostess stand was ignored. It just kept ringing and ringing. It was getting really annoying to listen to. My friend and I sort of looked at each other, like what is going on here. Unfortunately, we stayed.
It was a beautiful day, so we asked to seat on the patio and the young lady who seated us stopped to ask someone if anyone was serving the patio tables. Are you joking, it is one of the hottest days of the summer and you have to check to see if the patio is open. Anyways, it was open and we were stunned to see how wonderful it was. The view was breathtaking. We sat facing the golf course and with the ponds, ducks and flowers, you had to remind yourself you were in Richmond.
If it wasn't for the ambiance, we would have left. We honestly waited for 30 minutes before finally getting up, going inside and asking the bartender to send someone outside to serve us. Finally, after another 5 minutes a young girl approached us. She said that we were sitting at a section of the patio where a lot of people seat themselves and she thought we had just finished golf and didn't need service. She actually seemed upset with us that she had to come serve us. Are you kidding? First of all, how did we get menus if we just finished golfing. Secondly, even if she thought we were golfers, don't they deserve service too? Thirdly, you are a server, so why are you angry that we asked for service. I think the most disturbing thing was that she never even attempted to apologize. All she did was make excuses.
So, we asked her what the special was and she said she did not know because it was 4:30 and lunch was finished, but dinner was not ready. Bascially we were stuck in a no food time frame according to her. Too bad someone had not checked on us when we first arrived and perhaps we would have made the lunchtime cut. So, we asked her what can we order from the menus. She opened it up and said that we had the wrong menus, so she took them away. We were stunned. She still hadn't taken a drink order, she seemed mad at us for "having the wrong menus." We waited about 5 more minutes to get the "right menus," but no one ever came back, so we left.
I often wonder if she ever came back outside with the "right menus" or if she even realized that we left. It was seriously the worst experience we have ever had. Management needs to get this sorted out because it does not matter how beautiful the view is, you still need to provide people with some level of competent service. We don't expect the world, but anyone reading this will understand just how crazy this experience was. I mean these are tough times, especially with HST now in effect, so you need to take care of the people who are willing to spend their money in your establishment.
At a golf course, yes, there is this restaurant. They even let us in wearing sloppy jeans and t-shirt.
Frankly, it looks like a typical casual fine dining restaurant in Vancouver. Say a nicer White Spot. It certainly doesn't hurt though that it has a rather nice view of a very good looking golf course. Not so much course out the window, but trees, ponds, grass... you could do worse.
Service is friendly and proficient, but nothing super amazing. No complaints.
The food? Surprisingly decent! They advertise only wild, sustainable salmon. And local produce from Richmond farms.
There is absolutely nothing fancy or innovative about their food. Burgers, pasta, sandwiches, soup, salads. But, they do a very good job of it. Maybe it's the ingredients.
Prices for lunch are pretty reasonable, I would say cheaper than Earl's, most things around $10-11.
Would I eat here again? Easily? Worth a trip? Maybe not. But hey, it sure beats most of the crappy HK tea restaurants around Richmond.
omg, hidden gems in the country side
One of the best prime rib I have ever had
Extensive choice of beef and seafood dishes
beautiful decorated restaurant ,especially Christmas time ,very reasonably priced, wine list is the cheapest one in the city..but outstanding value, love that attentive but unobstructive service
make sure to call ahead for weekend luch as it is usually packed
This restaurant is located at the Country Meadows Golf Course. I have been here for lunch on a number of occassions because it is close to work.
The food is good, but nothing spectacular... meaning I have never come out bragging about it. The meal portions and price are reasonable.
The service is sometimes hit & miss. They seem to have a lot of people working the floor, but service can still be slow on occasion.
I recommend going in the summer when their spectacular outdoor patio is open. Looking out onto the greens on a warm summer day is the best!
