Went there with a few friends, we all ordered drinks and some of us order some dishes. The food was pretty good, except the fish cakes were a little oily. And the drinks did not come altogether, 10-15min intervals for the drinks. And they lost our two of our orders for drinks because there were double orders on separate bills, and blamed it on us for ordering the same thing, needless to say we didn't get an apology. All the manager said was "oh, its because you guys ordered doubles of things". That's nice to know.
When i tried to call a waiter to talk about our missing orders, she replied to me in Chinese. If im speaking english to you, I expect an english reply. Finally she called the manager over.
I talked to the manager twice, both times she would not make eye contact with me, and addressed my questions to my friend who didnt know what to say.
So overall, food was great, service was bad. Manager doesn't know how to deal with mistakes, and responded the nicest looking person in my group. Next time I'd like for her to look at me when I am talking to her, especially if i am complaining. We gave our tip in pennies
I've been in tons of bubble tea restaurants, and this (including the one in Burnaby), is by far the RUDEST restaurant I've ever been in.
The food is alright; their food is the same as any other bubble tea place, but their soups are worse than other places like "The One" or "Pearl Castle".
The milk teas are alright, and the slushes are slightly more sweet than regular bubble tea places.
The place itself is not bad looking, and I can definitely see why a lot of people choose this as a hangout spot. The food usually comes out fairly longer than average waiting time because there are a lot of people, especially at night.
However, the most awful thing about this experience is the SERVICE. The waitresses often have a difficult time speaking English (and that's okay, because some of them are still really nice AND that's REALLY NOT the problem), and we had to ask for water at least 3 times before the tap water is delivered to the table. The issue I have with this restaurant, and the one at Burnaby, is that they bluntly ask you "THIS ISN'T ENOUGH TIP"....Excuse me? My friends and I (students) will usually tip 10% or higher because, considering all the things I have mentioned above, and the fact that we're broke, we think it's a proper amount for a tip. The other night in particular, the cashier would not give my boyfriend's debit card back because she was demanding for more tip. In addition, before she even gave us the receipt, she blamed us for not telling our waitress to separate the bills; and swore at us after she reluctantly gave back the debit card. I am in the process of filing a proper complaint to BBB because this was very unacceptable behaviour and service.
I hope this was helpful.
Food: Average bubble tea stuff
Service: UGH. Is it so hard to get a drink at a bubble tea restaurant?! It took them 40 minutes to get a drink for my friend and I and in addition, they messed up by not putting the pearls in. Which seems to be a common mistake at this joint. My experience there gets worse and worse each time.
Value: Considering they always mess up and that it takes so long, I don't think its worth it.
Ambiance: Its usually really loud there and I find myself on the verge of yelling when I talk to people. Otherwise, it's "decent"
I used to enjoy going to this restaurant quite a lot. They serve a variety of Asian dishes, including Taiwanese and Chinese items. Service was always just OK - decent but nothing exceptional. What really drew me in was the food.
This all changed the last few times that I went there. What used to be delicious, fresh food gradually became stale and undercooked. I ordered a plate of steamed sea bass and it tasted like it had been sitting in the freezer for a year.
Worst of all, the last time I went there and ordered their stir-fried lamb dish, they substituted it with pork and told me that it was lamb. This was at the height of the swine flu, and so I guess people who didn't know better stayed away from the pork, and so the restaurant was trying to get rid of their stock. So, instead of "recommending" the pork dishes to us, they ignored our orders and used pork instead. And when I confronted the waitress, she insisted that it was lamb...
Very disappointed.
I didn't think the restaurant was as bad as the reviews that were posted here. But that's just my opinion.
The food here was actually pretty decent. Everything tasted good, and was up to value - considering the Chef's Special meals came with 2 appetizers, and a desert. The bubble tea though, here - is incredibly small, and expensive compared to normal bubble tea booths. Booths and restaurants, of course there is a difference.. but $4.70 for the drinks doesn't really get to me. It tastes like just any other. Nothing special.
The service was quick. We got seated immediately, but they didn't come check up on us until 30 minutes after. But that's okay I guess, considering the fact that we took a long time deciding. They could've atleast checked up on us though. We expected a thank-you, and come-again's like normal restaurants, but none from this one.
The value of everything was good, except for the drinks.
The ambiance is really nice - like Zephyr in the Sky. It's a calm place, and a good place to relax. It has wi-fi! Yay.
Overall, a good place to hang with your friends, but not a good place to eat with the family.
I vowed to not come to this restaurant after the first time, but my friend's had dragged me there a second time and the service was no different from the first time I went. The service is so bad I had to sign up for this site to warn people from coming here.
If you are a Buddhist monk and have a great deal of patience then this is truly "the great test of patience" for you. Example, waiting for a server to sit you down, 15 minutes. Getting attention of a server to write your order, 20 minutes. Waiting for your drink and food to arrive, 30-? minutes. (The food may not arrive and you will want to leave.)
Total time spent waiting: 55-?? minutes
