Empanada stand in the food court of the Lansdowne Centre serving authentic Chilean-style Empanada.
I was in the mall and feeling hungry when I stumbled on this joint. The place is in the food court so ambience was just okay. Service was good, and the guy at the counter seemed friendly. I have heard of empanadas but never tried one before. They are like a meat turnover and wow are they tasty. There were a few varieties, but I had a tasty beef empanada. It was cheap and a good size for me. I checked out Wikipedia and empanadas are eaten in just about every Spanish speaking country, so with a good portion of the world powering down these tasty treats, I should have tried one sooner.
I will be back for more soon.
I wish more malls had food courts that included empanadas. These aren't low-cal, but good for a once in a while treat. I tried their baked empanda's. The chicken one has minced chicken, some spices, and small amounts of olives, raisins, and hard boiled egg, the food here seems fairly authentic. The spinach one was interesting, I couldn't even tell it was vegetarian, but it was yummy!
If you aren't watching calories they have some deep-fried empanada's as well.
They also sell fresh tomato salsa, but the empanada's are good even without this.
Well, it is a food court joint, what do you expect other than just food?
Is it tasty? Yeah, okay, I'll give it that. We had the beef one and a cheese one. Is it worth the trip to Richmond? Hmmmm .... not so sure about that.
Is it authentic? Well, not being South American, I'm not sure. But I can tell you it is not Columbian style empanada nor is it Peruvian style ...
Hey, I guess you could do far worse at a food court (but to be honest, there's a lot of other decent choices at the Landsdowne food court).
I found this place through one of the reviews here. And I am so glad I did!
I drove to Richmond to check out this place, I have a passion for good food...
and I LOVED the Empanadas! so fresh so goooooooooooood!
I had two, and that was very filling! the spinach and cheese and seafood one. OH so good.
The man behind the counter even gave me free salsa, so nice of him, he was letting me know what ingredients where in each and suggested the mango empanada dessert, i had no room in my belly by the time I was done, but next time for sure! I want to go back today!
Its a food court so the ambiance is not very romantic, but who cares when you have such yummy food. The cost is not bad either , for such a good portion you pay a bit over $ 3 bucks . I definitely recommend it! and I will be back !
Have you tried an empanada before? If you haven't then you really have to stop by this place if you're in the area and try one. If you just want onew hich may fill you up, they start as low as $2.50. They have combos as well. They are pastries filled with various meats, veggies, and cheeses. They are either fried or baked. The best ones are on display and if you want a deepfried one, it takes only a few minutes. I definitely encourage you to try this!
These empanadas are good. It is a crust that's stuffed with meat, seafood, or cheese and fried/baked (?). It reminds me of Pizza Pops, just without the pizza sauce and better. The cheese & ham is enjoyable, but I prefer the chicken. The only thing I wished they had was more variety. Maybe some other kind of Chilean food.
These empanadas had a truly authentic taste. Thrown off by the food court atmosphere and the simple to plain hut decor I didnt expect much. But these Empanadas are delicious!!!!! It was so fresh and tasty, they melted in my mouth - I ordered the chorizio cheese one, and the fresh salsa served with it was incredible. This place is my new favourite :)
I have been searching for a good place to eat empanadas since I came back from Chile. Now I have finally found a place that closely resembles the taste from Chile. The crusts were light and delectable while the filling was insane! I had the beef, chicken and spinach with feta. I would recommend them all in a heartbeat but the beef is by far my favorite as it reminded me the most of the ones I've previously had. The ambiance is the only area that is lacking as it is in a food court so you can't expect much. The service was great as they were polite and friendly and the value is relatively good compared to other empanada places I have found in the lower mainland. If you're in the Landsdowne area, this is a must try!
On a standard weekend trip to the mall, I was thrilled to see this new addition to the Lansdowne Centre food court (in the spot where a New York Fries used to be). I had both a deep-fried cheese empanada and a baked beef version. They were both great - cheese one was nice and flaky as expected, the beed was well-seasoned and not too greasy. Well worth the drive to Richmond.
