Very happy with the food and service!

We did not have reservations, walked in at 6:30 pm and the owner let us know that if we finish within the hour we'd have a table that was reserved for the next hour. I was fine with that considering how hungry we were and we knew exactly what we wanted to order. The beef was very thinly sliced, chicken was tender, oysters were big, the lettuce was very clean unlike most hot pot restaurants. It was $17.95 for all you can eat hot pot and $5 for choice of soup base. They have many selections on the menu! We also ordered a beer and a plate of deep fried fish skin on the side and the bill came to $49.95! Overall everything was fresh, the food came quick and they always refill your tea and refill the soup. I really enjoyed dinner here, it was a pleasant dinner without the long wait at any Chinese restaurant in Richmond during dinner hours. I was very happy with the food and service!

All you can eat hotpot with excellent service

Good selection of meat and veggies for $18 a person. I found their service fast and attentive. I received my food quickly and the waitresses asked me if I wanted more once my last plate had emptied into the pot. Food quality was overall good, and my only complaint is that the menu where you indicate the quantity of items was not in english.

The service here is by far the best of any hotpot place I have been to in richmond, as they are fast and attentive. The selection is less than other hotpot places on the same street and it felt a little crowded in there.

Would consider returning if it was a less busy time, was a little too noisy in there for my liking.

Went there on a friday and they were turning people away at 7pm if they didn't have a reservation. A small restaurant but OK in terms of space for diners. Good value for $18 all you can eat and food comes quickly. Lots of choices so you can try things you would not have thought of before.

Too busy for hot pot

They have all sorts of stuff. They even have all sorts of soup base. Love it!

The service was good. I thought they were quite nice for an asian restaurant. Although there were 6 of us (3 couples) and they wouldn't let us pay separately on 3 credit cards, because they were "too busy". How does that work?

The price is pretty average, but for the extensive menu they offer, I think it's a pretty good deal.

Chubby Lamb Does a Body Good ... Well, Your Stomach Anyway!

Special thanks to my fellow foodie AF who brought Chubby Lamb hot pot into my life! This all-you-can-eat hot pot restaurant is a MUST-EAT!!! Offering a crazy variety of foods, including meats, seafood, veggies, noodles, all for $17.95! You can't beat that! Also, make sure to call in for reservations as this place is hot, hot, hot!

They even give you a side table to place all your raw food, so you can cook at your heart's desire! Lots of tofu, greens and fish balls for us!

I had to also post this picture of a newly found food there - the mushroom tofu. It's a round tofu pocket stuffed with tiny mushroom bits! It's soooooo good! My other Phan fave there is the fish tofu ... mmmmm. I love the satay/soya sauce they provide - every bite is dipped in flavor!

And I mustn't forget this special addition. Included in their all-you-can-eat menu are friend onion crepes! I think we ordered 3 of these that night, super crispy and tasty! Also, for $1.00 more, you can also indulge in all-you-can-drink pop! Haha, we were true pigs that night.

Worst Service Ever! Ruined Our Evening.
By yummm of Surrey (36 Reviews)
Submitted Wednesday, January 28, 2009 - 3:34pm [Dine in]

We went here on Chinese New Year because my brother who had come back from Hong Kong was craving hot pot. Bad choice. Our special evening was ruined by the horrendous service we received. Even my dad who's very used to "Honger-style" service was upset. The waitresses showed absolutely NO emotion on their faces, NO smile whatsoever, and they wouldn't even bother to talk to you! My dad ordered a beer on the order sheet and when it arrived, it was thrown on the table in front of him. My dad asked the waitress:"What is this?", hoping she'd at least acknowledge the fact that she was "serving" a Heineken. She looked at my dad angrily, turned around and came back with our order sheet. "This is your order sheet?" in a very confrontational tone. And when my brother finally responded and said yes, she gave my dad a very annoyed face before walking away. What kind of service is this?? We all grew up in Hong Kong and yes I have to admit some places in Hong Kong you just don't get the kind of service you deserve. But that was absolutely shocking - considering it was a busy place and this is VANCOUVER!!

No wonder they didn't have a line up when a similar restaurant had a waiting list.

We will never ever return to this place since they don't seem like they care anyways.

(I am starting to regret leaving a tip that night...)

We usually come here once every couple of weeks during the mid week when it's less busy. You should always make a reservation to ensure a seat, but be prepared to wait for......parking. Parking is a pain and it will likely take you a long time to find a spot in their busy lot.

The menu comes in English with Chinese translations, however the order form only comes in Chinese. They are more than happy to take orders in English and the waitresses are always friendly.

There is a good selection of food, especially the special sliced beef and the pancakes. There are a variety of soups that are delicious as well. I'd definitely recommend the satay and tom yum if you like it spicy. There are way spicier soup bases, but I've never tried them.

It's a very clean restaurant and the tables are comfortable. If you go, make sure to order a jug of plum juice to cool off.

All the sauces, garlic, chilis are all free.

My boyfriend and I eat out at least 4 times a week for dinner and Chubby Lamb is one of my favorite restaurants. Cheap prices and fresh food. Service is a hit or miss but most of the time, we get great services from the staff. The owner is really nice and when we tell her that "our food didn't come" she'll simply bring us our food from the kitchen.

In comparison to Cattle Cow hot pot whose a few doors down, their food and service was shit. Left no tips.

I have been to at least 5 other ayce hot pot places, and nothing beats the chubby lamb! Some other places charge extra for drinks and sauces, but at this place, everything's included. Although they're called "chubby lamb," their beef is alot better than their lamb, no doubt about that. Also, unlike some other places, chubby lamb always serves the right amount! They don't discriminate those who eat too much, and they even asked us to order more while reminding us it's all u can eat.(well, of course we knew.) This place is considered "very clean" for a hotpot restuarant. So if you really wanna try ayce hotpot, you can't really find one better than this one in Richmond, or even vancouver and burnaby. Recommended!

When the food is decent, it's OK, when the ambience is decent, it's acceptable, when the SERVICE IS HORRIBLE, the WHOLE experience has just been flushed down the toilet along with the meal. haha.

Ok to be serious, most ALL YOU CAN EATS do have a time limit, but when they WRITE that it is 2 hours, and stop you from ordering an 1.5 hours into it, it's just bad service.

Hopefully the WORD OF MOUTH is the best ADVERTISEMENT works in this scenario, as I went through the trouble of acutally signing up on this thing to share our horrible experiences with the common public.

We ordered as you would in any ALL YOU CAN EAT, of course at a AYCE hot pot you get MEAT! Now when we ordered our MEAT, everything else we ordered came, like the tofu, the noodles and the vegetables, but NO FRESH MEAT. We asked, once for it, twice and never came so instead we got another order sheet. ORDER SHEET in CHINESE. YOu would think opening a restaurant in CANADA would make you think to write the menu in ENGLISH TOO??
anyhoo, the second time we ordered, the meat came. As we proceeded to order our next round we were given the order sheet but a NO to ordering any more due to reaching our 2 hour time limit. OH I can prove that we were here only 1.5 hours, showed the waitress the phone call history I had which stamped the time clearly before the 2 hour limit while we were meeting up OUTSIDE THE RESTAURANT.

Waitress did not care, she proceeded to say sorry, no more.
well, no tip for you, except that you better smarten up on your customer service, or you just kissed your last customer goodbye! (us)

Don't go here, I will go as far as suggesting for you to go a couple doors down it's better. Believe me, we love to eat. We would know.

Take care = )

Came to restaurant last night with my girlfriend for dinner as she has never experienced hot pot before. After the service last night unfortunately I don't think she will want to have hotpot again. I made a reservation for us for 8pm and yet we have to wait till 9pm. Since when was making a reservation just a formality of having your name on a piece of paper? After we finally got our seats the service was terrible. Drinks and food took forever to get here. After an hour we were already getting the bum rush. Finally fed up we just left after barely eating. We have never had such a bad experience. This is my first review on dinehere I usually just read them but I really wanted to vent to about this place. With all the inconsitent a reviews this restaurant could be a good restaurant on weekdays when it's slow and a terrible restaurant on Fridays and weekends. That's my best guest.

PS. On a lighter note. Wowo do you work for Chubby lamb lol? I find it ironic you find it odd when someone gave a bad review on the same day they registered while you gave a good review on the same day you registered. Hahaha just a funny thought.

This restaurant is an absolute favourite on my list because of its quality of food and the prompt service. I'll have to admit that at first, their hospitality was not quite up to par as I'd hoped it would be, but the workers proved to still be efficient, hard working and attentive. During the next few visits, they greatly warmed up to our familiar faces and have since been very accomodating as well as much more cheerful in our presence. They frequently refill your soup base with chicken broth; a world of a difference for your tastebuds as opposed to plain, hot water . Mashed garlic, cilantro, jalapenos, green onions, satay sauce, sesame sauce, and soy sauce are standard add-ons, something other places charge extra for.
I've never had such scrumptious, fresh rolled, balls (of all flavours) from anywhere like this, ever! The KEY word to all the ingredients in this tasty meal is FRESH! Fresh from the vegetables, to the meat, to the noodles, to the balls, and all of the above. I highly recommend ordering the "Special Beef" slices -- expensive and mouth watering! Nothing compares...please, take my word, as a meat lover myself!
I also must applaud their selection of appetizing soup bases. It does cost a little extra for 2 soups but well worth it. My fiancee and I enjoy a balance of flavours, so we usually order the Satay/Mushroom soups or the Tom Yum/Mushrooms soup bases. The Tom Yum base balances the harmony of Salty/Sour/Spicy flavours into one savory experience, and the Mushroom soup is the lighter, more earthy counterpart. Their plum juice is also quite pleasant -- light and thirst quenching.
Becuase of their profound success, the restaurant requires reservations in advance. For food lovers and especially hot pot lovers, Chubby Lamb is the ultimate food experience for your starved stomach. Fresh food, great service, superb value, and incredible soups is this restaurant's recipe for repeat customers....and I'm definitely one of them!

I have heard good things about this restaurant so one Friday evening my friends and I decided to give it a try. For $18, you can order anything on the menu (there is a limit of 2 oysters per person). The service was prompt, and the meat and vegetables were fresh and of good quality. It is very unlike other all-you-can-eat hotpot restaurants where the quality is sorely lacking. They even refill the pot with chicken broth instead of water, as is standard in other lower-quality hotpot restaurants.

I would definitely go back. Reservations are required as the manager turns people away at the door.

I went there with my family couple nights ago, as expected, we had to make reservations before going there! When we got there, this little place is PACKED with so many people. Anyways, we got our table pretty quickly so we started ordering, the food came pretty quickly, and didn't miss any of the orders, so im not sure what "gdr" was talking about in the review, plus all you can eat place usually have a time limit anyway. It seems like "gdr" was from another restuarant and wanted to write a bad review about this place because the day he registered and the day he wrote this review is the same....interesting??? haha. Anyways, i will definitely try this place again!!

Best Hot Pot place yet!

Don't let the small and basic exterior fool you, this place is as good as any of the fancier looking Hot Pot restaurants in and around Richmond.

With respect to the food rating, I know you probably think I'm being biased in giving a 5 since the food served at hot pot places are just basic raw ingredients but it's all about the soup base that you use! At this restaurant you can choose the soup base depending on whether you want it savoury, spicy or something simple. It simply tantalizes the tastebuds!

Service is pretty quick, just make sure you can read chinese or have a friend that is literate in it because the menu doesn't have english. But you can always go ahead and ask the waitresses for assistance!

Horrendous Dining Experience.

I recently went to this restaurant with my family on Sunday night only to find that deciding to come here was was one of the worst dining decisons I have ever made. At first it may seem like a great deal. Only 18 dollars a head and unlimited canned pop for 1 dollar extra. However, all is not as it seems. To make up for the low price they actually enforce the time limit of two hours. With the slow service you will still end up coming out hungry. Food took around one hour for the first order to come around and almost half of the order did not arrive. There was lack of urgency in any of the service staff there. Even though the food was good it does not make up for the lack of customer service. After our second round of orders we politely informed them that half our food did not show up but we can just order again. The waitress rudely replied to us that she did in fact bring everything and our time was up and she proceeded to turn off the heater. She would not even bring us additional pop, she offered free tea instead. It is safe to say that I will never ever step into this establishment again. With so many great restaurants in Richmond this place does not have a remote chance of surviving. Try going to the hot pot place on the same street next door, Sun Tung Kee. Bigger establishment and better service. Most importantly you will not be hungry when you leave.

They have english menu, but no english order paper. But the server was very nice and patient as we tell them what we want.

The food is fresh and yummy. They have stuff like beef, lamb, pork neck, pork organ, pork/beef/prawn/fish ball, squid, oyster, mussle, shrimp, fish paste, variety of noold, variety of veg, etc.

The soup that we try was "chubby lamb soup" and "mushroom soup", it was rather tasteless, may be a little salt would make it better.

It was busy, but there was servers walking by every 5 minutes, filling tea, soup, taking in more order.

Overal experience is excellent! Best service I ever got from a hot pot place.
Tastewise, I would go there again but it's probably not something I'll be craving or dying to eat.

I've been here lots of times for Hot Pot and I've always gotten amazing service and the food was always good and fresh. For the AYCE price, it was a good deal. I always come with 10+ friends on a week day night so that probably explains the service thing, compared to other reviews on here. The restaurant was always busy when we go, but I guess they don't have line-ups on weekdays like they do on weekends. Anyway, I'd definitely come back here but the only thing that irks me is that it's sometimes hard to find parking close to the restaurant.

Well, ive only been there a few times, but from individual friends and my own personal experience, i wont be going back for a long time. The service was horrible, the place was crowded and stuffy. Food. was really only average.

the waiters there were really snobby and i guess they didn't want my business as they were rude and obnoxious when i asked for seats.

then again, i really prefer a more spacious restaurant. besides, there are so many hotpot places in Richmond now i really don't feel the need to squeeze into this one.
