Chop offers a relaxed, upscale atmosphere and a Canadian steakhouse menu made using top quality ingredients.
Chop’s interior design is absolutely stunning with its impressive and spacious washrooms, extremely comfy and remarkable private rooms, and one of the most impressive foyers we’ve ever seen! The only downside with this restaurant is its in-the-middle-of-nowhere location, as it’s placed right beside the highway on the edge of Richmond. Anyway, we ended up getting the large private room but ended up feeling overwhelmed by the gigantic table which separated us into two groups. Even though they had only placed 8 chairs for our group, they could have probably fit at least 6 more. However, the room’s aesthetics was top-notch, and we felt a bit special as we did not even book this room in advance. Later though, we found out that the majority of the restaurant was quite empty and that was probably the reason why they gave us this massive room.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t take many photos because we were too distanced apart. All we managed to take a picture of was the room and 1 meal. The bread was fairly good and the service was quite quick.
AAA Baseball Sirloin Steak – $24.95 (5.5/7)
This was surprisingly good for its price. We ordered it medium-rare and we honestly expected it to be tough and chewy, but it turned out all right! Of course, it isn’t comparable to Hy’s or Gotham, but for a chain-restaurant, we were quite impressed. However, the steak was over seasoned with black pepper and other spices, which we disliked. The fresh seasonal vegetables comprised of tomato, carrots, and Chinese Bok Choy. It was an interest combination but we probably wouldn’t order it again. Instead of vegetables, you may pick from a salad, fries, or a baked potato!
Lobster Fettuccini – $18.95 (5/7)
A friend ordered this because the mushroom ravioli was sold out (a bit suspicious since the restaurant was empty) and thought that the dish was just mediocre and nothing special.
Chop Burger - $13.95 (5.5/7)
A large handmade burger with fries. Nothing more to say! Our friend scarfed it down within 5 minutes so we suppose he gives it the thumbs up.
Anyway, you should come to Chop at least once to experience their beautiful interior design! Their food is better than other chains such as Milestones, Earls, and Cactus club, but not by a lot. Getting to the restaurant is a bit tough, and there’s no access by public transportation.
I have been to Chop a couple of times. This visit certainly won't endear me to go back. Some friends and I were out and we decided to go for a quick drink at Chop.
I was enticed by the drink specials (vodka mojitos) - disappointed with all of them, we had a sip from each other's drink. They essentially were watered down, with a bit of colouring. I didn't, but probably with hindsight should have complained - I looked around and everyone else (with wine + beer) appeared quite content. I put our drinks order down to being unfortunate.
Having drank half of the grapefruit mojito - i gave up and ordered a jd+coke. It was also below par, this time I did say something. The server did offer a replacement..but 2 out of 2 bad drinks was enough, i couldn't try a third. I was disillusioned with the drink, but i must say, the servers at Chop were good. Granted the place wasnt' busy, but the servers regulary visited each table and appeared to be 'on top of everything'.
If you go, i recommend you order something from a bottle.
Came in around 7 pm on October 22. Wow such poor service here it is not even funny, from the front desk girl who was obviously very bored with her put off attitude to the extremely uneducated (about the menu) bus girl or hostess not sure what her title was. I ordered my food the restaurant is practically empty, but my food still managed to come cold and the lobster pasta I ordered was so dry. I asked the quickly passing "bus girl"?? for some extra red sauce for my lobster pasta as it was very dry (that's how I explained it) she brings me back crab steak toppings!! it was white for gods sake, and then rushes off. Anyway ew. I have been here before a few times few years ago and it was good, but now not so much. I did complain about my food to the waitress, told her it was horrible she offered to go back to the cook and have them re-heat it for me...lol
I was really happy with the service. The hostess and waiter were all very profesional and friendly. I hardly encounter respect from restaurant workers, as they usualy are in a bad mood or they act snotty.
I ordered the Sirloin Oscar which was superb! If you are a fan of The Keg, then you will love this place. Perhaps better then The Keg, because the steak was cooked to perfection! The Keg always gets my steak wrong, as medium well seems hard for them to do!
The ambiance was really trendy and romantic. The place was clean and the lighting was perfectly dim, where you can still see your food.
I would recommend this place to everyone!
Ate at the Chop at five different occasions. The Steak choices are quite strong. Done to the preference and good quality of the cut. However being a steakhouse is more then just decent quality Steak. Most of the other Entrees and some of the sides are plain average. Service looks good but is young and inexperienced. Todays clientele is more sophisticated and these things get noticed. I'll keep going back for visual effect and ambiance with selected crowd and recommend only selected items from the menu.
