The Cactus Club has over 20 locations in BC and Alberta and features an eclectic menu selection that includes steaks, rice bowls, dinner sized salads and more.
I echo the last review - why bother? Lots of people tell me that they love this restaurant, that it's packed on the weekends and that the food is wonderful. Maybe they were talking about the whole chain and not this location.
Five of us went for lunch - 3 had the short rib sandwich, one had jambalaya and the other the teri rice bowl. While the food was beautifully presented (very Food Network style) - the portions were miniscule. I had 15 fries on my plate with my rib sandwich, my other companions were luckier - 19 and 22 respectively. The bread was odd - it was rock hard and tasted like raisin bread. Comments from the others - looked good but not a lot to satisfy. The waitress who took our order had the personality of a cabbage patch doll, cute but inanimate. It was if we were interrupting her day, to take our order. The only time she perked up, was when we asked for the bill, which still took 15 minutes (For the 5 of us - the bill was $130 and that's without liquor). On the way out, the hostess in the front gave us a cheery goodbye - but she was outside in the sun, chatting to two very good looking hunks. So in our opinion, unless we absolutely have to go back, we won't. Sorry to be a party pooper!
Went with a couple of guys from work for a relaxing meal. Problems started right away. Okay, maybe I need a smaller vehicle but parking's not the greatest there. The restaurant was quite busy so I thought it'd be okay. After sitting down, our server took an extremely long time to take even our drink order. We were sitting near the tv's on the No.3 Road side and seriously I watched almost one half of football before our entrees came.
I had the Jack Daniel's ribs and they were decent and my co-workers had two different types of steaks and while the portions were kind of on the small side, everything tasted okay. I thought possibly the service was slow because of the amount of customers there but then again, we watched three servers have a leisurely chit chat at the front door for 15 minutes...
It was my first time eating at Cactus Club. I didn't like anything about the food. You usually go to a restaurant for the food, but I only liked how the hostess seated us near the heater, since it was a cold night.
There was nothing on the menu that I wanted to try but I ended up ordering some burger. It was just normal. Nothing awesome,
The service was ok. The food was ok. But I don't think I'll be eating there again.
Great spot! No matter the night you're there its always high energy with good people. It's near work so I go often. Too bad it is so expensive. I love the fact they have the kitchen right behind the bar so you can see your food being prepared. They have a great Birthday tradition they do. I get to watch the game while having awesome drinks with local friends
WTF.....im pretty sure that every time I have gone to this place I walk in the door and they look at me like im a freak. I mean, not to brag, but Im good looking. I model for a pretty important magazine and im a nice person, generaly. I usually have to wait for like 10 mins for a table for 2...and there are usualy loads of tables open. The last time that I went there is was my birthday and they say me and 6 of my friends in the corner of the entire restuarant, with cold air blowing on us, and with the window behind our table open at like 9pm....umm hi its cold out and air conditioning....really...its not even summer yet!
The only good thing about this place is their ceaser salad and their filet minon....yumm in my tum. If it wasnt for their amazing steak and salad I would never go back....dam you tummy!
I've just started working here as a food expeditor, (half a step up from a hostess) so there's a chance that I'm pretty biased. But I worked at McDonalds at one point, and I was honest then- if customers asked, I would tell them that I actually didn't eat there, because it was pretty gross.
The servers are polite, intelligent, respectful, hardworking, and yes, human. The managers are fantastic, particularly Matt, the night manager.
The restaurant has astounded me with its integrity from the start- it doesn't matter who you are or how rude you've been- all the food comes out clean and top quality all the time.
We've got a "house of yes" policy which means that if there's any reasonable request you have, we'll say yes to it right away and then figure out a way to make it happen. I've seen people literally describe a meal that doesn't exist in any shape or form on the menu, and we've given it to them- a task that sucks for both the server who's got to write it down and figure out a way of explaining it to the kitchen, and the chef who's got to figure out a way to bring it up to Cactus Club's standard.
The quality of the ingredients is incredible- they seem to use top notch everything, whether that means using beef that's always fresh and never been frozen, or stocking just enough meat and vegetables for 1-3 days at a time. They make all of their sauces in the back of the restaurant, and they've got a million different drinks, including 12 beers on tap and wine bottles ranging from $20 to $175.
If you get a chance, try the jambalaya rice bowl- so good, especially if you substitute the creme fresh for spicy yogurt. And the yam fries are awesome.
A lot of reviews have had some bad things to say about this restaurant, and for all I know, the restaurant might have been as bad as they said when they said it. But if that's the case, it's definitely picked up a lot in the last couple months.
There's a reason why this place is ridiculously packed every friday and saturday, not to mention a lot of wednesdays and thursdays...
The Bandara salad is a must have here! Always ask for extra dates as they are quite chincy with the portions. I now prefer the lava flow over the Bellini..but perhaps ask for a double, otherwise you feel as though there's hardly any booze involved. The hostesses are more for decoration than anything..hearing them talk about boyfriend's and parties while they are looking for a vacant table for you is always annoying. Try to get a male server if your a female, because unfortunately here there is sexual discrimination!
I frequent the Cactus Club in North Van and usually have burgers or quesedillas. This time around I decided to try the Ahi Tuna and it was really good, better than I expected. My brother had the salmon with rice and he said it was good also. Music was a tad loud but nice atmosphere. It was a bit chilly, i think part of the restaurant is a big enclosed patio with those propane heaters, trouble is they don't warm around the feet much.
The review title says it all. This is a costant issue at this restaurant. Feels more like a club than a restaurant.
Food is good, but a little over priced, after all it is just the Cactus Club with Cafe slapped on the end, and not really anything more.
So if its bad loud music you want with your somewhat over priced meal and mediocore service, then this is the place for you.
