A bubble tea and snack cafe in Pacific Place mall.
My bf raved about this place and insisted we make a late night trip to try their special bubble teas...and so we went.
The bubble tea menu reminded me of gelato offerings - basically, like gelato, anything and everything can be made into bubble tea! I thought the menu was creative and different, but upon tasting the drinks (special mango with pearls, the blue fairy and pink fairy and something else I can't remember between us and our friends) it seemed that execution wasn't as good as the idea. Perhaps it was an off night, but the mango tasted like blended mango powder (the same kind used to make mango pudding), both fairies were reminiscent of really sweet candy. Just over the top, and hard to drink more than a couple of sips, let alone finish the drink.
There is potential in the concept though, and I see a lot of reviewers liking the cookie or chocolate based drinks, so maybe I'll go back and try those to give this place a fair chance. Hope next time's the charm!
It's an adventure finding this place, I've never been in President's Plaza before. It's an interesting 3 level box shaped complex with parking in the interior courtyard. Bubble Queen is located on the first floor directly on Cambie street, beside a small pedestrian bridge and an open field. The BBT's here are amazing. It's like deluxe versions of BBT served elsewhere. They don't skimp on ingredients. I had the papaya slush, and while they didn't have fresh papaya they had frozen papaya chunks. The drink was loaded with fruit, as the fruit was frozen they didn't even add ice just some water as I hate milk. I chose the lychee jelly to go with it and had the fresh ripe Atulfo mango chunks on top. This place is a hidden gem, thanks to the prior reviews for their recommendation. The ambiance is decent however it's tiny, so I would recommend take-out. People phone in drink orders as well, to avoid waiting. I like their Bubble Queen logo. This is my new go-to BBT place to impress out of town guests as it's easy to combine this place with a trip to the airport and normally I try to avoid Richmond as I hate driving there.
The drinks are very yummy however they have now raised prices... I do think $5.50 for a oreo slushie is a tad expensive. At those prices the line between a snack beverage and a meal does start to blur. As for another dollar you could pretty much have a meal.
They still have a few unique drinks and if you go at a slower time they do handcraft your drinks with care and to your taste which is nice. But you are paying for it with the recent price increases.
They are sort of out of the way I hope they reconsider their pricing or offer a daily special of a choice between two drinks or something. Also as it's a smaller store it's hard to find seats if you choose to stay there to enjoy your drink.
Note that the regular drinks are still a decent value and comparable to other BBT places it's only the specialty bbt's that have seen the price increases.
Still recommended for decadent drinks! But at the prices they now charge for the good specialty drinks they should be throwing in a shot of booze or something.
Quantity of mango and papaya cubes are what gets me excited. Quality is what makes this place amazing. There are a great variety of slushes and drinks to choose from and they can all be real fruit fresh!. Also, there are the special orange kit-kat and ferrero rocher bubble teas which combine the two great sweets of bubble tea and chocolate.
Enough about the drinks. The snacks at bubble queen are also quality. There's even Oreo-flavored version of the famous 雞蛋仔(please copy this to google if you dont read chinese to see this asian snack)!!!
I went to check out Bubble Queen on a Sunday, unfortunately it was closed!! There was a photo of a delicious looking mango smoothie bbt with loads of mango cubes on it on the window, ever since I saw that I've been thinking of this place for awhile now but never made it to try it and finally checked it out one night. The fresh mango cubes on top of the mango milk smoothie was really light and fresh, perfect for a warm summer night. The mango was perfectly ripe and sweet, the mango milk smoothie was very nicely blended together, not too sweet and the pearls were fresh and soft. They do close early at 10pm, when we walked in at 9:55pm, there was still 2 tables of kids sitting around, however they asked us to take our bbt to go as soon as it was ready. Service was pretty poor even though they were polite when they asked but considering most places do wait til their guests leave then close, I found it annoying.
Mrs. C and I were out with friends and craving the BBT. Last time we dropped by BQ they were closed, and we were determined to check it out. The ambiance was functional but not fancy. It was clean although the w/c could be a little better.
Service was great and the counter person was very friendly and helped us choose from the huge menu of teas and snacks. I went with a fresh fruit strawberry milk tea slush which was cheap at $3.50, and I accompanied it with a bubble waffle. My beloved tea-buddy had ginger green tea, and our friends had a variety of teas including a cookies and cream milk tea which was reported to be amazing. I want to try that one next time.
I was really impressed with the quality of the beverages and the creative menu items. This place is on my list of 'go to' tea houses.
My friend has been raving about this place and she finally took me there. The place isn't much to look at. They cater more to take-out but they do have a few tables for you to sit at.
However, they do have these unique slush/bbt flavors. I tried the Ferrero Rocher flavor which was really good, but a bit too sweet. Next time, I will ask for half sweet. They also have Maltesars flavor slush, the ever so famous cookie slush, mint mocha slush, and even earl grey milk tea slush. I also tried this fruit cup (available on weekends only) which consists of mango slush, sago, and fresh fruits on top. Food wise, they serve some snacks and they serve unique flavor bubble waffles which I will try next time.
I would definitely come back again to try the other flavors. Highly Recommended!
I LOVE BUBBLE QUEEN. This place is pretty small in a little plaza. The bubble tea is outstanding, it's by far the best bubble tea I've ever had. They have lots of cool flavours and creations. It takes a while to make though, not the typical two second walk out the door deal. It's never watery or too sweet (which I absolutely hate). They have MANGO STARS!!! My personal favourite is Passion Fruit Green Tea with Pearls. The bubble waffles and other small items on the menu are pretty decent as well. While you're waiting you can watch TV of read some magazines. Strongly recommend this place for cheap and good eats/drinks.
I took many reviewers advice and went with the cookies and cream slush with half the pearls from BQ. I must admit, this is one of the most flavourful slush I haven't had in a long time. Other places have benefited from loading a lot of ice into their slush to water the flavour (and food cost) down. Their pearls were cooked to my liking; chewy and soft.
I must admit, I usually take Mr. Chasiubow's word for places he recommend and once again he has not let me down!
Totally recommended for their specialty drinks and will definitely return to try their Ferrero Rocher and Maltesers bubble tea!!!
They have a large menu including specialty milk tea and slush that are pretty affordable. ($3~4.50 including pearls and GST included!)
I love their specialty slush because they blend in real cookie/chocolate etc with a generous amount with pearls (sweetness and chewyness is just right)
I can't wait to try their other items like mochi and bubble waffles. I'll definitely be back, although there's a bit of wait since the store and the kitchen is really small
My favorite bubble tea place (and I've been to a lot). I live near by and have been coming to this location for years (even before it was Bubble Queen) and I'm so glad that these new owners took over.
Flavors are unique, always fresh, consistent. Pearls are always perfectly cooked.
Place is small, definitely not your typical sit-down bubble tea place like Pearl Castle but it's quaint, cozy and nicely decorated. They have a couple tables and tons of magazines to read while you wait.
Employees here are always very friendly and helpful although sometimes the orders get backed up when it gets really busy because I've never seen more than two people work at home.
They are quite different from other bbt places in the sense that they came up with their own recipes for bbt. A friend brought me there a couple weeks ago and he ordered a bbt that i've never heard of !
I dunno if i remembered wrong but it was something with oreo, and it was awesome! I ordered a regular milktea with pearls and soon after that I went for a 2nd round because I really wanted to try those bbt that i've never even heard of. Service was pretty good too, not a big place so they only had one person in the store. Haven't had a chance to try their food yet.
Bubble Queen has a good selection of snacks and drinks. My favorite is the malteser bubbletea, this is the only place of which I know that it is sold. Although a bit on the heavy side, this drink uses a whole package of Maltesers blended together and has a few whole Malteser pieces at the top that will melt when your drink is near finished.
The gyozas were made from freezed packages but they were made very hot and quite good.
All in all this is a nice small place for gatherings and light snacks.
The drinks are delicious. I've been to bubble queen many times, and the drinks are always fresh and yummy. The fresh fruit especially. I usually get the real fruit honeydew slush with coconut jelly or the cookies and cream slush. The milk tea drink is pretty average. The green tea & strawberry egg balls are flavourful but a bit soggy. The service is friendly and patient. The wait time is long though. Don't expect to quickly buy bubble tea and dash out the door if you're in a hurry.
I have been a regular customer since they opened half a year ago. And there is a reason to it. Over the half year they have came up with several creative bevarages, as well as several food items, that all come with an affordable price. Bubble tea comes with a pricetag of $3.50. The owners were really nice and friendly ( especially the female owner ). The store itself is small but clean. My fav is blueberry cheesecake slush and Japanese green milk tea.
One thing to note tho, for the choose your own menu ( flavor + milktea/slush/tea ) you gotta know what you are doing... Last time i ordered green bean slush was literally green bean crushed in ice ( without milk... )
