A HK style cafe restaurant
Can't go wrong.
Prices - very good especially with the specials.
Food - very generous on portions. very saucy, but tasty. can't go too often otherwise you'll have a heart-attack. portugese chicken, baked spaghetti, noodles.. all excellent.
Ambiance - It's a chinese cafe, don't expect meditation humms.. it's loud,, if yo dont like it.. go buy earplugs with the money you save compared to other chinese restaurants.
Service - It's fine.. you come in, they take your order and serve you as fast as they can.. They all work quite hard in there.
Parking.. - Hard to park during peak times. but it's worth going again.
i cant find a reason going back there again. any of the HK style restaurant can give you same food, but better service and less time waiting. i know we cannot expect much from a HK style cafe since they charge less than any other style restaurant, but its totally disappointed me.
I used to go here a lot before they renovated. The portions were really big before, now, it's not even enough to make me full. WTF!
What service? Give them your order, eat it as fast as possible so you don't hog the table, pay and get lost.....atleast that's what they want you to do.
I know, can't expect too much from a HK style cafe/rest, but com'on, what the hell is this junk? And don't rush me out the door, I'll leave when I'm good and ready. Geez
This used to be a fairly decent HK style cafe a few years back. The chefs must have left.. We have not been there for a long time but last month we went there after our visit at the lawyers office. It was 11:30 so we decided to have a quick bite there.
Services was not the worst as I've seen worse in other chinese restaurants. But the food is absolutely disguesting. I ordered a fried rice lunch set and my wife ordered a beef fried noodles lunch set. The fried rice wasn't even cooked. It was warm leaning to the cold side. There are many white rice crumps with no soy sauce on it. The beef noodle was worse, lots of greasy gravy with little beef. again half warm/cold. Imagine how gross that is. I swear that the chefs must have been gone and the people there are new owners.
Not sure how the others below can give this joint a 4-5 stars. We must be eating at different restaurants!
Worse service I've ever had from a chinese restaurant. Fricking rude waitresses and dont give a damn about us at all. No smiles ever. Think anyone would deserve to have a decent meal from any ordinary restaurant out there and well taken care than this place. And I'm not a fussy person at all. RATING this the rudest and the worst service restaurant ..... ever. TOP ON THE LIST! WORST!
I have been to this cafe a few times. The portion is big but the quality of it is really bad. Yesterday around 11:15am we went for some food in this cafe. The waitress gave us the breakfast menu. So my husband chose a congee and hot coffee (not included in the meal) and I chose a sandwich with a hot drink (free included in the meal). we waited for 20 minutes. No drinks arrived. only a sandwich. The waitress told us at 11:35am that they ran out of congee. So we decide to order another breakfast meal. The waitress (with spiky gel hair) told us we cannot order breakfast anymore because it is after 11:30am. I told her it is unreasonable, that they should have told us earlier there's not enough congee so we can order something else in time. She said they cannot do anything about it. the kitchen just threw back all the order out saying there is not enough congee. i said it is not fair to tell us there's not enough congee after 11:30am so we cannot order another breakfast meal. she said that's how it is done. I told her then why you give us the breakfast menu when the service is like this. we were mad so we just pay for my meal and go. the receipt includes the coffee ($2.35). that is just bs, consider the whole breakfast meal costed $2.95. AND that the coffee and my hot drink haven't even arrived yet! The manager came and told us we cannot leave without paying (for the coffee!). I was so mad so I explain the entire situation to him in front of all the diners. he still makes us pay for the freaking coffee. I told him I don't want any drinks (include the free one that comes with my meal). The manager said he will talk with the waitresses about this. As our son was crying, we end up paying for the stupid coffee which they have pour from a cup to a styrofoam cup in their kitchen. For $3 (which they probably overcharge us), it is stupid. we have never seen anything like this before. I will tell all my friends to boycott this cafe. I will never go to this cafe again!!
I only come here for breakfast and it is always PACKED. I think this is mainly because they serve the cheapest yet you get the most bang for your buck compared to every other HK style restaurants.
Value: for $2.95, you get a refillable drink, two eggs made to your request, two sausages or two slices of ham or two pieces of spam, and one slice of toast. Pretty good value.
Service: Service isn't that great...but adequate.
Food: Sure, the food isn't that great, but COME ON...for $2.95....you really can't get any better deals anywhere else. There are also other food combos you can also get...like omelets, congee, soy sauce chow mien, noodles in soup,....and the list goes on. Obviously, these items are not $2.95, but they are not more than $6.
If you do go on weekends, be sure to go early! (like at 9) because parking is limited and there will be a queue.
my favourite cha chan in the lower mainland. the portions, especially the mini set are larger than most other restaurants and while the wait for a table can be annoying it's worth it for the food. Wish they would expand the restaurant.
Listen, after reading some above reviews, I am flabbergasted at the expectations some people bring to the proverbial "table". This place rocks....HARD. You can stagger in here at 2am and have a very adequate portion of authentic Hong Kong style cafe fare. The chinese dishes are very nice and not too greasy. I am not a fan of the HK take on "Western" cuisine, but the value of their two or three meat selection plate is substantial. All items come with choice of hot or cold drink and although they dont advertise it they will refill for free. I often go for breakfast...2eggs, meat, toast and drink under 3$!! No wonder they want your table, they are losing money on you! It is what it is...and knows its identity. They are exactly what they are meant to be and are doing it well.
We decided to try this restaurant today after reading some good reviews and were definetely not disappointed. We were there before 5:30 pm so we ordered from the special mini set meals menu. I had the cod fillet with tofu on rice and an iced lemon tea while the Mrs had the rice noodle with fish and bok choy with a glass of Coke. My son had the kids' meal which consisted of fried chicken wings, a sausage, spagetti with meat sauce, fries and a Sprite. The total including tax and a 15% tip was $24.00 which represented an excellent value. All in all the restaurant was cleaner than Honolulu Cafe but I would have to say that the food at Angel Cafe was tastier. Since we live in Burnaby, we would not make the special trip back to this place since there are other comparable places like Honolulu and Angel Cafe closer. However for those who live in the vicinity of Alleluia Cafe, this place would be a solid place to dine.
Food - the food here is average Hong Kong cafe style food. Menu has a good variety, unlike some other HK restaurants (i.e. Bouhemia Restaurant on Granville Rd & St Albans). The food comes fast!
Prices are REALLY good, esp if you order before 5:30pm and after 9:00pm. That's when you can order those Mini-sets that are ~ $5 - $7 each. Portions are definitely NOT mini and is adequate as a dinner for an adult.
Wondering why this place always has a line-up? Well, when HK cafes charge extra $ for cold drinks, this place does NOT charge you extra if you want a drink to be cold AND YOU GET 1 FREE REFILL if you order a mini-set!
Considering the quality of food is ok, prices are good, the ambience is clean and the drinks are refillable, this is highly recommended!
Just don't expect good services though - the food will arrive within a minute or two but like other typical HK (or Asian) cafes, its people are polite but not ultra-friendly.
My dad is a very picky eater. And the fact that he used to go the Alleluia every morning to eat breakfast will suprise you. Inside, it is a clean and comfy place. The parking lot is usually full because there is so many people going there. Especially on Saturday nights. My favourite food there is the baked minced beef spaghetti. And yes, it is baked. The drinks there are okay, but if you live in Richmond, you should definately try it out.
I came here for lunch with a couple of friends today... And I must admit... This is the most digusting HK style cafe I have ever gone to in my life..
My lunch was awful. I have never eaten a baked fish fillet with spinach and cream sauce that tasted sooooooo bad before. The sauce was gross.. the cream sauce was so watered down, it made my rice soggy which was disgusting looking and tasting..
My friends also had baked cream sauce rices, which did not taste and look good at all..
I will never come back to this restaurant ever again..!!!!
This place is always busy. Food is good and so is the price. Service is fast too. Can't go wrong with that. You need to try it to know the value you're getting. One order can be a meal for 2. I've tried their breakfast, lunch and dinner. Haven't been disappointed yet and will be going back there every chance I have.
