A good place to go

This restaurant has the best Ginger Beef in the lower mainland - and we've tried a lot of Chinese restaurants looking for good Ginger Beef. The Spicy Szechuan Green Beans are great, as is the Coral Court Special Chop Suey (don't make that face) - lovely fresh veg, chicken, beef, barbecue pork, prawns AND squid make this chop suey something special! I can also recommend the General Tso's Chicken. The prices are reasonable for the size of the dishes - there's usually enough food left to take some home.

Coral Court is located in a small strip mall on lower Lonsdale. It's a small place, with the usual linoleum floor and tables and very fake flowers on the tables. I do wish they'd play some real Chinese music instead of the elevator music that they play now. So, don't go for the ambience.

Waitstaff have always been very friendly and helpful and the service has always been very prompt, even on nights where the phone is ringing off the hook with takeout orders.

We still love it!

We've been going to Poncho's pretty much since it opened, when it was still in it's older, smaller location. The food is still authentic and excellent (Kaeta makes trips back home to Mexico at least once a year) and they've added some new items. Try the pulled pork tortillas - excellent! An old favourite - Carne Mexicana with it's steak in a tomato-y sauce, mole poblano chicken enchilada, refritos and rice, is still a treat. And Poncho's special coffee and margarita's are as yummy as always.

Yes, the service can be slow - but at Poncho's, why are you in a rush? Staff is often young relatives brought up from Mexico, and changes fairly often, so if you need help, wave and ask for it!

With the singer that is now a regular and the cheerful, cosy atmosphere, the ambience should really make you slow down and enjoy the evening, if you let it. For me, it's like coming home!
