First Impressions

A beautiful little spot for a restaurant, right on the water. The patio was inviting, live music playing softly, and a great buzz from the patrons. Inside was also very nicely decorated, clean, well kept, and well excecuted.

Our service was poor right off the get go, the hostess seemed lost with what to do with our request for a table for two. It took 2-3 minutes for her to start us towards a table. Fine if we were dealing with a line up, but there was only 1 other party of 2 waiting, and lots of tables available. Unforutnately our service didn't improve a lot from there, we felt ignored at times, though there were nearly as many people working as their was eating at the time we were there.

With all that out of the way, the food! While prices were a little higher than average pub fare (and the comparison to a pub should stop there) the food was excellent. Everything we had off the menu was done to perfection, and had excellent flavour. Even something as simple as a club sandwich was not only solid, but IMPRESSIVE in how flavourful it was.

If they can step up the service, and keep the flavour flowing, this could become a favorite for sure.

Exceptional food. Simply exceptional.

A couple of these are open in Victoria, one on Cook st. one on Shelbourne street. This review is for the Cook st. restaraunt, I haven't tried the other yet. I would expect the food to be the same, and I have heard good reviews of the Shelbourne location.

On to the review! A nice, clean, and new building greeted us on our visit, we were there right at opening on a Sunday (5pm) and a good thing that was. No problem getting a seat, but in short order the place was packed and the phone was ringing off the hook. Take out, delivery and dine in. Our server was decent, if a little timid, but she did a solid job and added a few suggestions when asked. The real star of this show was the food though. Wow! It was to die for. The smells coming out of the kitchen were tantilizing the whole evening, every dish that passed us looked fantastic, and our food was no exception.

You get a lot of food for the money here, 2 people could do well with 3 dishes and a side of rice for about $35 tops. Lots of flavour, good prices, and plenty of ways to enjoy this fine cuisine. (take out, dine in or delivery) I'm going back often!

Fujiya3624 Shelbourne Street, Victoria
Excellent Take-out Value

Fujiya is certainly one of Victoria's little gems. There are few places that you can be in and out in less than 10 minites, spend less than $8 on a large meal, and know that it has been made fresh in the past few minutes.

Not the best tasting sushi I have ever had, but by no means a slouch in the taste department. And the value of food for the money, no where else I've been locally can touch it.
