Copper Chimney Indian Grill & Bar567 Hornby Street, Vancouver
Amazing Indian-Fusion Cuisine!
Submitted Friday, April 3, 2009 - 10:11am [Dine in]

I took my husband to Copper Chimney last night to celebrate his birthday. It was our first time there, and we had heard mixed things about the food. We were positively amazed at the high quality cuisine and service! It is one of the best meals we have had out in a long time!!!

The Food: We started with the soup of the day, which was a unique mix of Chinese chicken corn soup, with spinach and mushrooms. It has some Indian ingredients and was topped with fresh coriander. It was divine! And very filling! It came with a few pieces of lovely garlic bread. My husband ordered steak for dinner and he was in heaven! He has tried steak at many different restaurants (steakhouses) and has always found The Keg to be his favourite. He said his steak at Copper Chimney was even better than The Keg steak! I ordered the Chili Lime Prawns, which came with saffron rice and vegetables. It was delicious!!! And the portions were quite generous - I had to take about half of my meal home (had to save room for dessert). Our tiramisu cheesecake was fabulous as well. We were thrilled with everything we ordered, and that included his wine and my Kama Sutra martini!

The Service & The Ambiance: I had reserved my table in advanced and let the server know it was my husband's birthday. They gave us a nice table tucked away in the corner, and really amazed us with great service. It was above and beyond what I expected! The decor of the restaurant is lovely with romantic lighting, beautiful candles, and great curtains.

We are so glad we picked Copper Chimney to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we will certainly be back there for another great meal soon!

Much improved
Submitted Thursday, July 24, 2008 - 6:04pm [Dine in]

I wrote a very bad review of Lhy Thai a little while ago but my family dragged me back there last week. I was pleasantly surprised. This time, instead of our food being dreadfully slow and the service being terrible, the food came out very quickly (a little too quickly!) and the owner and server were both friendly and courteous. Perhaps I just caught them on a bad day the last time...Lhy Thai does have the best hot & sour soup in town!

Caf-style dining

We love Hon's for a quick bite. The chicken corn soup is really, really good! The 'small' soup is enough for 2 adults for only $4! I prefer to order vegetarian dishes here b/c sometimes that chicken is diced into pieces that are too large for my liking, but the flavour is always quite good. The service is...efficient. No frills, just good food. Same thing for ambiance. Go only for the food. :)

Lovely place, even for a semi-vegetarian!

I usually hate going for steak with my fiance b/c I don't eat red meat. The last few times we went to the Keg, I ordered chicken and it was really dry and awful. When I visited this Keg location, though, I ordered the daily fish special and it was fantastic! Almost as good as the fist at a seafood speciality restaurant! I was quite impressed.

We really enjoyed our server. He was energetic, talkative, friendly and took the extra step to make our dining experience fantastic. The manager of the restaurant also came by to check on us and get some feedback. Together, the staff really took care of details. It was very busy (Christmas season), and still, they managed to make the extra effort for us. We had a wonderful time!

Amazing sushi make up for unfriendly staff
Submitted Friday, January 18, 2008 - 3:42pm [Dine in]

I went to Shabusen in the late afternoon for a quick snack. It was just after the lunch rush and the restaurant had not fully recovered. I was shown to a table that was still messy and the staff were rushed and unfriendly with me, perhaps because I was by myself. Anyway, I ordered the same 2 rolls I usually order when I go for sushi and the rolls here were waaay better than any I had tasted in a long time! Fantastic! Fresh and tasty. I think the service here is hit and miss, but the food makes it worthwhile to take the risk!

Live Wasp in Food
Submitted Friday, August 31, 2007 - 4:19pm [Dine in]

Not only was the food mediocre, but the service was very poor also. When we found a live wasp in our dish, our server asserted that it didn't come from the kitchen but rather flew in afterwards. She didn't even offer to bring us a new dish, although another server did (we declined). She didn't apologize, didn't offer us free dessert, and charged us full price on the bill. When we asked for a voucher for our next visit (we needed some incentive to want to return), she instead gave us a measly 10% discount on our meal, which took forever for her to process. I won't be returning to Simply Thai - unless I want to experience a surprise guest in my food!
