I have heard so many great things about this place and I'm so happy that we have finally gotten the chance to try it. It's nice to know you can find a meal in Vancouver for $5!
If you've had this kind of food before, most dishes are very curry and saucy. I ordered one of the vegetarian curries and my friend ordered the chicken curry. The chicken curry was a chicken quarter in curry sauce with rice for $5. The portions were a perfect size and the dishes were very tasty - you can tell there's some great home cooking going on back there!
Again, with a place like this you cannot judge the it by it's cover. I have to warn you, the crowd knows where this secret is! It's a small place with cheap delicious food - what more can you ask for?
Have you tried an empanada before? If you haven't then you really have to stop by this place if you're in the area and try one. If you just want onew hich may fill you up, they start as low as $2.50. They have combos as well. They are pastries filled with various meats, veggies, and cheeses. They are either fried or baked. The best ones are on display and if you want a deepfried one, it takes only a few minutes. I definitely encourage you to try this!
If you are looking for some good mexican in Richmond, this is the place to go. Although it is situated in the food court, its a great healthier meal than many other choices. The meats the use are real and they're not like a mix from taco bell. Everytime we go here I am not disappointed because everything is freshly made when you order and all the toppings look like they've been prepared the same day. I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu!
Walking into the restaurant, I was surprised at how big the place is and clean-cut it looked. We arrived close to 9:00pm and had the late night menu. For $13, I don't think you can go wrong. There was a wide selection of items on then menu - some to be cooked on the grill and some hot and cold dishes. The only thing that turned me off was the seafood pancake - it was so greasy and nasty, it seemed like it was sitting in oil for the last hour. I will never order that ever again.
Many people have commented on bad service, but we certainly didn't received horrible service. You can't expect too much when you're at an AYCE because there are so many people being served at the same time. All you have to do is order large orders and when you're running out of food, make another one so you're not stuck constantly waiting for more food to come.
We ordered two noodle dishes, one was a spicy peanut and the other was a chili plum. The spicy peanut was amazing, but that is probably the only thing that I would return for. The other one was flavourless. The wait for food was also pretty long.
I also have to agree with the previous reviewer that this place is extremely overpriced for NOODLES with thin slices of meat. Rice noodles and many other noodles come for about $2 a package. Why are the prices SO inflated here? I can go to a decent restaurant and pay well under what they are charging here. I recommend you try somewhere else down the street, just call and order ahead.
The restaurant was clean and well kept, but very very small. I can't imagine what happens if this place gets very busy. I guess this also accounted for the menu on the wall consisting of about 10 items. More selection would be better, but the size of the reaturant would explain this I guess. I would not go here with a large group of people, I would say maximum four.
The pho (beef noodle soup) was very good and it didn't taste like the soup was from a mix. The meat portions were very generous, but the bowl of noodles was very very small...I was expecting bigger portions.
I've walked by this place several times and I have always been tempted to go in and give it a try. One time, someone was coming out and said it was amazing. I've also seen very good reviews on this site. I wasn't impressed with my first visit here.
I had the first item on the ramen menu (the pork) and was pretty disappointed when I only found like two peices of meet in my bowl. Also, the broth was salty and pretty oily. The place was busy and I got a seat right away, but I don't think I would return since I left with a salty aftertaste.
The late night menu is great when you want to grab a bite between 9pm and 12am. If there were no other options, I would definitely return. We had a few pieces of nigri sushi, sashimi, and a chopped scallop roll. The salmon sashimi was quite slimy and one of my pieces of fish smelled a little odd. I don't think we'll go back unless there's no where else to grab late night sushi. The value was great though...but I guess the explains the fish. Maybe we'll try the cooked food next time...if there is a next time.
I think the value and quality of the food here makes up for the bad service. They get so busy here in the small space that they have and try to squeeze everyone in, I don't think you can expect the best service. We ate here during the lunch period on a weekend and it was jam packed. We had to sit in the corner beside the sushi bar. However, we ordered the sushi boat for two and were very satisfied with our meal and the value. We would definitely return if we are in the area and would like good sushi and slamon sashimi for great prices.
We recently visited Pajos and were disappointed with our meal. We ordered the halibut fish 7 chips and its seems like the portions of fish have shrank. The last few times we went, our meal seemed worth it because we were paying almost $13 for 2 1/2 pieces of fish. This time we got 3 half pieces of fish with very soggy fries...what happened? The lines have also decreased, so maybe that is a sign. I think we'll try Dave's next time we're in the Steveston area.
I ate here during lunch and I'm not sure if I would return. The portions were good, but it was nothing special. The chicken curry was tasty but the fried rice dish we ordered was flavorless. I believe the owners of this restaurant were chinese, so I'm not sure the thai or malaysian flavours really come out in the dishes very well. The lunch prices were good and the service was average.
If you are looking for incredibly fresh sushi, this is a restuarant you have to try. We had the hamachi sashimi and it was so good and fresh. We also tried a few kinds of fish that you don't usually come by at other restaurants and they were all fresh and worth it.
You should definitely make reservations, because it is a small restaurant and usually by reservation only unelss you get lucky. Highly recommended, but don't expect a large selection of cooked foods.
One of my favourite lunch spots downtown, you can never turn down a lunch date here. I've tried a few of their thai curries and they've have always been magnificant. The portions are always large, so the lunch special for one person is always more than enough. If you're looking for a new lunch spot to go and want to avoid the fast food joints, this is the place to go!
I say the worst ACYE because we ordered salmon sushi and it came fast, however all the salmon that came out was precut and sitting out. We thought it would be a good AYCE because we ordered takeout before and it was pretty good. I recommend their specialty rolls and the al la carte menu is definitely better than the buffet!
I visited this place during lunch it was the worst Vietnamese experience ever. The place was busy during lunch and they could not handle the crowd. People have to get back to work you know? We waited forever for our food and the place was only about one third full.
How do I know there was MSG in their food? I ordered a noodle soup, supposed to be their specialty, and it was horrible. The bowl was full of noodles with no meat and the soup was pretty salty. I didn't even finish my food, but it kept me full for the rest of the NIGHT. The secret when eating authentic soups, is that you will be hungry again. The less chemical in the food, the easier your body will process it. I'll eat at this place again.
I have heard it is hard to find authentic Chinese food in Langely and I believe this restaurant has exceptional dishes. We went here for a large family dinner and the dishes were all amazing. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. So you really don't have to travel all they way to Richmond to find good Chinese!
I think this is a must try if you are visiting Vancouver or if you are new to Vancouver. I've never had anything like this before. I had the one with the seaweed and special mayo on it. Although it was a little bit pricey for a street dog, the twist on the toppings did make it extra tasty and it is also a must try!
We recently went here for the lunch buffet. The food was okay, I think we enjoyed the butter chicken an palak paneer the most. We were full after two dishes and it was a great deal for a lunch buffet - under $10!
However, after eating there for lunch we were full for the rest of the day. I'm not sure if it was because the food was pretty heavy or if it was something they put in the food?
This place is always busy during lunch time, because why would you go to the food court when you can get great food for the same price here?
I've tried various dishes at this restaurant and I have never been disappointed. You order and pay at the cash, receive an order number, and your food is served fresh to your table. It is a must try!
The owners of this restaurant are chinese, so I can say that the food is not authentic thai. After being tipped off about the coupons in the georgia straight, we decided to try this place out as well. There is a 2-for-1 coupon as well, so the value is great.
We ordered two dishes, one of which was seafood, and the portions were reasonable. We would go back with the coupon, but I don't think we would go back again and pay regular price for "thai" food with a heavy chinese influence.
