If your looking for the classic "white" treatment this place is for you!!!

We use to go to this restaurant all the time. We routinely brought groups of 5-10+ people with us to dine. The service always sucked but the food was worth it.

Now, we will NEVER GO BACK!!!

We went in 1.5 hours before closing and just as our first order of food arrived we were asked to submit a last call order. At the end of the night, we had 1 meat tray per person leftover. We had never had a problem with that before. We all paid our bills and on our way out our waitress came over and told us we would all have to pay extra because we didn't finish the meat. We said ok and asked for a takeout container and she informed us that there was no take out containers.

The table next to us was laughing because they had their extra trays taken away. They too had too much leftover at the end of the night but because they spoke the language the waitress took their meat back to the kitchen. It became very apparent that we were being treated so rudely because we were white.

In front of the remaining customers our waitress told us we either sit down and finish our food or she was charging us... no exceptions. She then Yelled out loud in her language to her boss behind the bar saying that we had to pay. The other table of people who spoke the language were really surprised and told us that their extra meat had been taken back with no problems.

I wrote a letter to the manager (Peter Leung) and he didn't return my email.

Not only will I never go back, but I am making it my personal vendetta to let everyone know how RUDE we were treated... all because we were white.

Ironically, when we went to tell another friend about our treatment, she informed us that they had made reservations for the previous weekend. It took over 2 hours to be seated with a reservation for them. They waited and waited as many "Asian" customers went past them. You can't tell me that this place isn't racist towards white people when our friends waited 2 hours with a reservation as other Asian people without reservations were allowed through. - If it was me, I wouldn't have waited the 2 hours.

BTW, our bill the night we went was over $140 and we still got the "white" treatment.

Such a great place!

This little place is tucked away out of the downtown core. It is easy to forget about until you taste the quality.

The food is always solid and good. The quality is the same every time we go.

Although not all you can eat, their prices are great. After 9pm they have a discounted menu of all the things I love.

I can't wait to go back. MMM

Diamond in the Rough!
Submitted Wednesday, October 8, 2008 - 12:44pm [Dine in]

I work up the street from this little gem. I went with a friend of mine for lunch. We both had their burger. It was amazing!

We sat at the "community table" with 6 other strangers. I didn't know if I would like that or not but to my surprise it was wonderful. The atmosphere was very chic and it made me feel as if I was in an upscale restaurant downtown, not across the street from a half way house.

I can't wait to go back. My friend and I have already scheduled another lunch date at this place.

Awesome Desserts!
Submitted Monday, August 4, 2008 - 11:38pm [Dine in]

Went with a few friends the other day. I had the salad, spareribs and two of their dessert selections. All the food was tasty and excellent! It did take them a while to get our food out to us, despite not being busy at all, but when it did come, it didn't disappoint. They have these desserts that you get for $2.50 each. They are perfect for after dinner because they are not too big. A friend of mine and I shared a dessert platter which was all four selections. They were all wonderful! I will happily go back the next time I find myself on Lonsdale!

OMG, My Food Came From A Bucket!!!
Submitted Monday, August 4, 2008 - 11:27pm [Dine in]

Sounds like the beginning of a horror story doesn't it. My food came from a bucket! I will start by saying I asked for a dish that was $16.95 and I asked for a different noodle type and instead of parm sauce I asked for Dill sauce. They charged me $22 for this pasta! The sauce was terrible. It didn't taste like dill at all. When I finally asked for more dill, the waitress had to explain to me that the sauce is made off site and that the chefs in the kitchen didn't have any dill to give me. So I took my bland ass pasta home and it is going to rot in the fridge! The waitress was kind enough to take $5 off my bill for the crappy pasta, which brought the total cost of the pasta down to the original price without my minor substitutions. This night started with a trip to Anton's on Hastings and ended up badly at Anducci's!!!! NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! If I wanted to have pasta sauce from a bucket, I would go and get the classico pasta sauce @ safeway two blocks away.

Great Night Out!
Submitted Wednesday, June 4, 2008 - 9:36am [Dine in]

The hubby and I went out to Chambar for our 2 year anniversary. I had been once before so I knew exactly what to expect. This was my husbands first time. I must say, it was much noisier than I had remembered it! The menu must have changed. I thought I had ordered something that I had before, but clearly it wasn't what I had before and I didn't enjoy it AT ALL!!! On a higher note, the steaks we had were AMAZING!!! So yummy I finished my entire steak... including the onion on top! I drank the Fee de Bohem all night long which was an amasing drink made with absinth!!! mmm, so good. Dessert was also great.
All in all, a solid night out and one the hubby and I will remember from years to come. Would I go back? I would... with a large group of people though (the best way to enjoy a noisy ambiance is with a large group of people). Excellent!

A Night Out With Friends!
Submitted Friday, May 16, 2008 - 1:16pm [Dine in]

We decided to join our friends for a Night. Our friend chose Pied a Terre as a place to meet for dinner. Although it took a very coordinated effort on our part to get reservations for more than 4 people, we were all able to eat relatively together.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and always seemed to come at the moment we needed them. They respected our time and didn’t push the bill on us like other restaurants do.

We ended up sitting next to a couple who frequent the restaurant often. They gave some excellent food suggestions. One suggestion was the Onion Pie… boy were they right! It was delicious. Everything was delicious, right down to my yummy dessert.

I will definitely be going back to Pied a Terre.

The most terrible service EVER!!!
Submitted Wednesday, April 2, 2008 - 4:41pm [Dine in]

I am in charge or co-ordinating goodies for company get togethers where I work. I heard about this little gem in Kits that was creating little mini cheesecakes! How can you go wrong with that I thought!

Upon calling to find out their yummy six flavors of the week I was hung up on by a staff member!!!! Aparently, they were to busy to answer my simple little question of "what are you flavors this week?". So, I thought I would call back in the afternoon. I felt like a child sitting in my school desk being scolded by the teacher! The person I spoke to at Cheesecake 101 told me she had a customer and would have to call me back. I told her that someone had hung up on me earlier and that all I needed to know what the flavors of the week. She scolded me and told me that I should have left a voicemail and that the customer in the store overrides the customer on the phone..

Aparently memorizing your flavors of the week is too hard because she couldn't answer my question. She was very rude, talked in a negative voice and made me feel bad for even calling... like "how dare I?"

That being said, I thanked her for her time and informed her that "Cupcakes on Broadway" sounds like a better solution for our company events!

Although I have never tried a "Cheesecake 101" I don't think I ever will because calling them has left a "sour taste" in my mouth and it wasn't from a sour cherry cheesecake!

Huge Dissapointment
Submitted Wednesday, October 11, 2006 - 3:11pm [Dine in]

I use to go to the Mad Greek weekly for takeout when I lived in Richmond a year ago. The prices were great and the food was amazing!!! Returning to live in the area, I decided to go back to the Mad Greek for some lunch takeout. They had switched locations.

Here is my bill

Ceaser Salad- 8.95
Zucchini Strips- 6.95
and they made me pay for tzatziki for the zucchini strips- 1.25

Total bill for a casual lunch takeout including tax- 18.17 (pre tip)

The zucchini strips were in the tiniest take out container they had. The salad (which was small) was in the medium half size container and they had the audacity to charge me for tzatsiki!!!! Did I mention that the one word that comes to mind about the ceaser salad is CIGARETTE ASHES? The salad tasted full of them. It was terrible. I threw it out!

For 9$ I can go to Earls and get the biggest, freshest ceaser salad that can feed my husband and me!!!

Upon asking if they had changed their prices from moving from the old location to the new one, they told me that they may have went up a dollar or so. No one in their right mind would spend 18.17 on a salad and a stupid tini tiny appy!

Not only was I STARVING after the meal, but I am thanking god I didn't order anything else. I will never be back.... EVER!!!! The 80/20 rule is going to bring them down. Speaking to friends who were regulars, they have also stopped going due to poor food quality and quantity for the price...

BTW 80/20 rule is that 20% of your customers give you 80% of your profit... and 80% of the people comming into your restaurant only account for 20% of your profits. It is so sad, but poor food and service will bite you in the butt if you tinker with the quality, quantity and prices.

There I am done ranting... anyone have mouthwash?

Wonderful place for dinner
Submitted Friday, June 30, 2006 - 7:49pm [Dine in]

We had the experience of eating at this place because the buffet was full and our reservations fell through. River Rock actually took care of our entire bill on the house!!!

That being said, we ordered a whole lot of food. They have amazing appys!!! Loved their little wrap things that you dip in peanut sauce!!!

The actual entree's were wonderful! My steak was cooked exactly as I asked, all the veggies were fresh and cooked perfect!

It was so good.... that we actually brough my parents there for dinner instead of going to the buffet. Now, we only eat at Dockside!

Oh yeah, the service was amazing. We had this gorgious waiter who was polite and curtious and who seemed to come around at just the right time!!!

Mouth Watering RIBS!!!!
Submitted Friday, June 30, 2006 - 7:44pm [Dine in]

When you got the hankerin for MEAT, go here!!! We have been several times since they re-opend. The food is outstanding, and consistanly good. My favs are their ceaser salad, the virginee ribs and their house wine. They give these awesome little corn fritters with your meal too!!!

The service is ok, not great, but worth the wait for the food. I think that Richmond is plagued with bad waiters and waitresses so all concidered it is probebly better service than others. The bone bucket that they give you adds tons to the atmosphere!!!

Price wise this place is expensive! A dinner for two can run over $100 if you are not careful. (EG: no appys, no drinks, no desert) but the ribs are reasonably priced at about $23 a plate! You get your choice of yam fries, garlic mashed potatoes and beans i think... To be quite honest, not a whole lot of veggies.. JUST MEAT!!! AND DAMN GOOD MEAT AT THAT!

Can't wait to go back!

Submitted Friday, June 30, 2006 - 7:38pm [Dine in]

Wow, I must say, this place has went downhill on a slip and slide! The food use to be amazing... and the service was awesome... but now, my friends and I don't dare go. The gyoza sucks! They cut your orders in half and you wait a ton of time just for the first round of orders! I don't go there any more and wont ever go there anymore... I wish that they went back to the way that they use to be....
