Pho Triple 32114 W 41st Ave, Vancouver
Yummy lunch
Submitted Wednesday, March 16, 2016 - 2:20pm [Take-out]

This place is new to Kerrisdale replacing the long standing Avenue Grill. With not be as satisfied with the other Pho place in the area it was time to give Pho Triple 3 a try. We ordered the lg hot & sour prawn soup with egg noodles and the chicken teriyaki and wonton soup combo.

The hot & sour soup broth came in 1 container and the noodles in another. The broth was filled to the top which I like b/c the broth is my favourite part of the soup. There were ample amounts thin egg noodles in the other. Accompanying the broth was 6 good size prawns, cabbage, deep fried onion bits, basil, tomatoes and bean sprouts. The soup was really flavourful. The only thing that it didn't come with was additional bean sprouts, basil and hot/hoisin sauce. I would request that next time. The chicken teriyaki came in a good portion of crispy deep fried chicken, a broccoli, steamed bean sprouts and cabbage. The teriyaki sauce came in the side with sesame seeds in it. This dish was a hit with the chicken teriyaki consumers in our family.

I would return to this place and would be interested to see what their other dishes taste like.

Biercraft Restaurant Wesbrook3340 Shrum Lane, Vancouver
It should have been a better experience.
Submitted Sunday, January 10, 2016 - 11:56pm [Dine in]

We have been longtime customers of the other 2 Biercraft locations. Since the UBC location opened we've been there twice, the most recent time was last night. We had friends come-in to Vancouver and we're looking for a place to go for dinner and drinks.

When we arrived the host table was empty so my husband went to locate a person to assist us. When the host came to the door she asked our name though the restaurant only seemed 1/2 full. She then went to see if there was a table ready for us and we were seated. After 10 min. we had a server approach our table, leave glasses of water and say nothing. After 10 more minutes the host that greeted us at the door and seated us came to the table to ask us if a server had taken our drink orders. When we told her that our drink orders hadn't been taken she stated that she was going to take them since our server was MIA. Once the drink orders were in, a different server came to let us know that she was also going to be a server for our table. We placed our food orders with her ordering; wings, calmari, baked Brie, fish tacos and beet salad. We also orders ribs thought they were not in stock on a Saturday night at 7:45pm. All the food arrived in timely manner after it was ordered and was of good quality ( as it should given the price.)

After our food dishes we clear we orders another round of drinks. Once they were finished the focus around us seemed to be on cleaning. We were not asked if we wanted another round. We sat waiting for 20 min. With the server not coming back to the table my husband went back to the original woman who sat us (she was now behind the bar) to let her know that we would like our bill since we had been sitting with empty glasses and we wanted to settle our bill and move onto the next place. My husband let her know of our displeasure with the serve. She acknowledged what he had said by saying "ok" though didn't ask if we wanted another round.

This place has potential to be so much better. We are not students and are professionals out for the night. The next place got the money from us the Biercraft could have. Improving customer service could go a long way.

Yummy, Yummy in my tummy
Submitted Sunday, May 10, 2015 - 1:49pm [Take-out]

We were looking for some place different to take my mother-in-law for dinner for Mother's Day. We began looking and found Indian Affair. Thankfully we made a reso ahead of time on a Saturday night as it was busy both in the seating of the restaurant and the takeout offers.

We ordered the rice with peas, garlic family size nan bread, chicken tikka masala, okra masala, aloo gobi and prawn vindaloo. After ordering we received complementary popadum. Everything arrived together and the flavour was yummy. We asked for medium to hot and found that we could easily add additional hot-sauce to it. The portion size was good and with 5 people eating there was enough to take leftover.

All staff we encountered were every friendly. I rated the service 3 only because we found we had to flag the servers down to have water refills and ask for other things. This could have been since they were busy.

We would gladly return here in the future, hopefully for the buffet. This restaurant has on-line coupons. Just print them off and bring with with you. We used a $8.00 when you spend $40.

Glad we tried someplace new.
Submitted Sunday, June 15, 2014 - 8:39pm [Take-out]

From recomendedations from our friends who live in the area we tried Talay for the first time. We ordered # 23 with chicken, #25 with prawns, #43-B with no Chinese sausage and a prawn salad roll. 23 was flavorful and had the most amount of chicken in a like dish at other Thai restaurants. # 25 was delisous. The dish included 6 lg. tiger prawns and plentiful green beans. # 43 was good and a great to soak-up the sauces from the other dishes. The salad roll was the best roll I have ever had. The roll included Thai basil that enhanced the flavours. We will be adding this yummy restaurant to our collection of go to places.

Yummy Beer
Submitted Wednesday, November 20, 2013 - 11:12pm [Dine in]

Wanted to checkout the last beer establishment in down last night. We ended down to CBM with a friend visiting from Hog Town. We entered the building and were quickly added to the wait list and were given a transponder. We were told that there was a 45 minute wait. We took a quick look around and headed over to Tap and Barel for a quick one...FYI the transponder has a 2km radious. When the transponder activated we headed back. We were seat at the bar and give a combo beer and food menu. In addition there was a beer bible for us to study. Pints were $2.00 off...can't go wrong with a $4.25 pint! Great selection of local, imported and seasonal beers.

food: We ordered the nachos. They were basic, boring and costly in the $16-18 range. The come with a x-small ramican of salsa and sour cream. Just enough to cover 8 chips. We ordered another salsa and were charged $2.00. They have cheaper fish tacos and they seemed to be flying out of the kitchen. We ordered a couple and they never arrived.

Understanding that they are newly opened and still working out the kinks...we'll be back. Definitely a solid addition to the Vancouver beer scene.

Gotta love a week day special
Submitted Sunday, July 14, 2013 - 7:14pm [Dine in]

Was driving down Main St. Last week and noticed a week day lunch special for burgers. $3.95 for a spicy lentil or beef burger. The burgers are made to order with a variety of toppings. I ordered the spicy lentil with humus, splitz sauce, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and extra pickles. It was yummy! The lentil patty was so large that is was hanging out of the bun. The comdo of favours worked well together. Can't beat the price for lunch under $4.50! I'll be back and bring some others along.

Love this place because you get the same thing each visit...great food.
Submitted Tuesday, February 5, 2013 - 1:12pm [Dine in]

We visit Candia every couple of months. We typically order the same thing; grilled seafood and BBQ'd chicken with spag. For the kids we order an appy sized calamari. There is so much food we share our meals with the kids. The seafood is a nice blend and always cooked perfectly... Yummy! Great to have a Greek seafood dinner that is not deep fried. The portions are so large after sharing and eating there is still enough to have for lunch the next day. The calamari is cooked the way it should be...just enough batter and tender not chewy. The spag comes baked and the chicken seasoned. All meals come with salad, choice of Greek, caesar or tossed.

Knowing that we are heading to HSG I always know that I am in for a yummy meal. We typically go for dinner there every couple of months. I would discribe their food as home cooked though better. I ordered the halibut with beet rIsotto and my husband had the stuffed chicken with veggies. The halibut was cooked perfectly and had a light lemon creamy sauce over it. The beet risotto was delicious. The chicken was a good portion though the only complaint would be that the stuffing was not evenly distributed through-out the breast. We enjoyed some yummy craft brews. As always the waiter was friendly and attentive. If you ever visit leave room for the gingerbread pudding. We didn't and was sorry we hadn't.

Weekly visit is required
Submitted Saturday, November 3, 2012 - 10:55pm [Dine in]

As an advid sushi lover I am always seeking out quality places to stop and have a quick plesent lunch experience. I recently discovered Togo sushi in Richmond centre next to the McDonalds. It has a simple sit down counter and 1 table for 2. It is mostly a takeout place with the sushi served on Takeout trays. Their rolls are reasonably priced and are fresh & yummy. They like most places have a speciality roll sheet that is off the menu. I typically order from it. I have also had the miso soup, ebi sunomono salad...both of which are good. I have recommend this place to friends and now they are going there weekly.

We were hankering for something different tonight for dinner. We decided on pho and started by consulting dinehere to see what is good close by. We order from pho hoa on oak street from time to time though have found their pho flavorless lately so we were up for some new. From dinehere we discovered that there is a pho place close by so my husband drove up to see there menu. The place was super busy when he arrived and when he ordered there were people lined-up to get a seat. He ordered and was told 10-15 min. Food was ready when they said it would be. We ordered sliced rare beef soup, satay seafood in peanut sauce & coconut milk soup, grilled prawns & lemon grass chicken on steamed rice and shrimp salad rolls. Everything we orderd was yummy!!! The satay seafood soup was like nothing I have ever had. It was full of favour with a good amount of spice to the broth. It did find it a little oily on the top and removed some of the oil. There was a group among of seafood that accompanied the soup. My husband had the beef soup and enjoyed it. The kids shared the chicken and prawns. The chicken was cooked to perfection. It was skinless and tender. It came with a little salad. The order of shrimp salad rolls were great, fresh and yummy. Our entire dinner cost approx. $31.00! We will definately be ordering from here again!!

Submitted Wednesday, August 22, 2012 - 11:05am [Dine in]

A friend and I went to Chewies to have some beer and appies and to chew the fat...so to speak. We were seated on the patio and were thankful we were as it was fairly loud inside. We ordered some large bottles of beer to share, grilled calamari with cucumber mint jalapeño salad, crab cakes with a green salad and the fried okra. Everything we ordered arrived at our table quickly and was yummy! The calamari was sliced thinly and was grilled to perfection. The accompanied salad was refreshing. The crab cakes were full of crab and not a bunch of fillers. The fried okra was a good beer accompaniment. The portion was ample though like that other reviewer noted that they were so good one could eat an entire order. The table of 3 next to us all ordered the chicken and there was nothing left on their plates. We found the servers to be friendly and there when we needed them. I will definitely be back!

Taco Tuesday....yummy!
Submitted Wednesday, August 22, 2012 - 10:28am [Dine in]

We recently tried this place for the first time with some gift cards we had purchased from a charity silent auction. When walking in this place the seating area is pretty basic...though your not there for the pretty ambiance. We ordered a grilled soft shrimp that had a good helping of shrimp, 2 deep fried fish and chicken tacos. You then get to add whatever toppings you would like. They have different names for the topping combos. The guys working there were helpful and friendly. After learning what the topping combos were we will be ordering like chronic taco pros next time! The tacos were yummy and filling. Another person who was there ordering remarked to us if this is your first time here, it won't be your last...I know he is right!

I've been talking about that yummy pizza for days!
Submitted Friday, July 27, 2012 - 10:27pm [Dine in]

I took a friend out for her birthday dinner the other night. We decided to try Novo since my friend loves pizza & wine. We were seated promptly on the patio. Our waittress was friendly and seemed like she liked her job. We shared a pizza and each had a salad. I had the golden beet and she the house salad. They were both a good size. The amount of dressing was perfect and not over powering. The pizza was excellent! Great size to share if you are having something else. I crust was nice a crispy chewy. It almost melted in your mouth. My friend found a wine she like and I had a glass of draft. They only have Stanley Park on tap which limiting. Would be nice if they expanded to a couple more draft option ( I do realize they are a wine bar.) I have told friends about this place and will return.

What a surprise!

We went to Harold's for dinner after only ever having been in the lounge area. The menu has a great selection and there were specials as well. My husband ordered the salmon and I had the Thai special fish. The salmon came with mashed potatoes and beans. The Thai fish came with rice and veggies. Both fish dishes were cooked perfectly. The veggies were done great as well. The server we had was excellent. She was quick with water refills and took good care of our children...bringing them smaller glasses for water and extra napkins. We will definitely be ack again..FYI there is not charge for parking I you register your car.

Great eats And drinks
Submitted Sunday, April 1, 2012 - 11:55am [Dine in]

We went to Calabash with a group for my husband's birthday for the first time. Our group ordered various appies and main dishes. I ordered the prawn and green papaya salad and the seafood roti. You know it's going to be good food when you run into your roti lady in the Resturant. The salad was excellent...came with 4 prawns with jerk spice on top of a mountain us slaw with chunks of fish. I would order that on a return trip. My husband had the crab cake appy that came with 2 good sized cakes a little salad and a bit of slaw. They were tastie as well. Others around the table ordered the jerk poutine, doubles, featured coconut mushroom soup and plantain chips. All reports back your that the food was yummy! My seafood roti was tastie and it came with a side salad that was refreshing. Make sure you add a little pepper sauce to your roti just to add a little more favour. Now let talk drinks...Yummy! We ordered many of the rum drinks. Try the coconut jumby and the one with the basil. All the drinks were amazing. The service was great and server was very knowledgable. Will be back again or sure.

For the love of Living Social...will back with or without you!
Submitted Friday, November 11, 2011 - 12:15am [Dine in]

Purchased a $30.00 for $15.00 coupon on Living Social for this place a while back with intentions of taking a friend who lives in the neighbourhood to dinner. Friend or no friend I will be going back for sure. We were seating quickly and and handed menus. The menu is laid out for quick reference. The server was over quickly to see if we were ready to order and returned in a good amount of time when we were. We ordered the calamari with thai chilli dipping sauce, trio of agedashi tofu, crunchy Go-Go roll, lady mango and deep fried cali. The rolls were between $6.00-$7.00. Everything we ordered was yummy! The calamari was cooked to perfection. The rolls were fancy and unique. This is not your regular sushi place and the food is priced right!

Great breakfast will be back
Submitted Sunday, September 25, 2011 - 9:02pm [Dine in]

We have dined here for dinner a couple of times though never for brunch. My husband drove by yesterday and suggested we go for brunch today with the kids. When we arrived we had the pick of the place. We were promptly seated and had water and menus. I ordered the shrimp omelet, my husband had the steak benny and the kids an plain omelet. Well our food was being cooked the kids sat-up at the bar to watch the cook, cook their meal. He was friendly and served them some fruit as they watched. When the food arrived at the table the kids food was separated onto 2 plates. With each breakfast there was fresh fruits ( pineapple and melons.) The portion was so big no one finished their meals. My husband and I took half our meals home. Serve was great. We had our water glasses refiled a couple of times as well as my hot water from my tea. Our meals came with fresh warm yummy bread that was accompanied with some tasty butter. While we dined other entered the restaurant that clearly were regulars. The cook was friendly and greeted the others. This meal was one of the best meals we have had in a restaurant with our family (children age 2 & 3.) I contribute this the friendly quick service and the food. On a side note they have 1/2 priced pasta nights Monday & Tuesday nights and it's worth going!

Wow...great items on the menu!
Submitted Monday, June 13, 2011 - 12:19am [Dine in]

We went to Darby's last week. This was the first time I have eaten there though my husband has been there is years past. We went for an adult date night with a gift card that I had won on The Peak. From what I understand they have a new menu. There was a great variety on the menu leaving anyone happy. We ordered 4 different items to share. The first was the squash cheese fondue. This dish was yummy...The fondue was accompanied by garlic bread and broccoli. While we were eating the fondue became cold so we asked the server to reheat it. She responded with we have no microwave so we will need to put it back in the oven. Neediness to say we were pleasantly surprise and more then happy to wait to not have microwaved food! The next dish we had was warm beet salad with goat cheese. This salad was perfect for sharing and yummy also. The only suggest I would make is for the chef to cut the pieces for beet into bite size pieces. They came in big rounds. We also ordered wings. They had 2 specialty flavours of jasmine ginger or habanero. We ordered salt and pepper with a side of sauces. The wings came with both flavours and blue cheese dip. The burger list was long and yummy. You can order the burger only or burger with your choice of a side. We ordered a cheese and prawn topped cat fish burger. (No charge for subbing a veggie, $1.00 for subbing cat fish) The cat fish burger came on a long wholewheat bun. It was excellent...so great that I only ate 1/2 and took the rest for lunch the next day. During our time there was a game of trivia that was popular with others. Another thing is to mention is that they have a good number of beers on tab. We will definitely be back and have told friends to do the same. Try Darby's if you haven't in a while...you will leave happy!!!

Will go back again to enjoy the veggie burger.
Submitted Thursday, August 12, 2010 - 11:58pm [Dine in]

I ended up here during the Olympics to get away from the downtown core. The first time I had the fish & chips and it was good. My friends had the burger and the other a sandwich. They both enjoyed what they ordered. Was here recently and ordered the veggie burger. It was excellent. There was a crunch in every bite. I asked the server what it was. The burger has almonds in it. I think they make their own veggie burger. I would order that again when I go again. During th Olympics we enjoyed the large TV's to watch sports. We had to wait for a table and was offered the drink menu while we waited. Nice to have a cold drink while you wait.

Good changes for the better!
Submitted Thursday, August 12, 2010 - 11:35pm [Dine in]

We went out tonight to Ouisi for dinner as we do every couple of months. When reviewing their menu we noticied that they have made some changes. There are new items on the menu and they have added that you can choose 2 sides with your main dish. There were approx. 10 sides to choose from. AND they have brought back the comp. corn bread with the meal. My husband ordered the southern fried chicken with smoked cream corn and beets. I ordered the gulf prawns with yummy diablo sauce. There is a choice of 2 different sauces. The diablo is a mixture of BBQ & hot sauce. For my 2 sides I had the coleslaw and sweet potato/peacan hash. Our meals were excellent!!! The chicken was very lightly breaded with a tasty sauce and the were 10 sizeable prawns with ample sauce. The sides were in a dish that I would call a cup. They were all great too. The cost was reasonable. The chicken was $17.00 the prawns were $16.00. Great valueand quality for what we paid. We had the same friendly server that we have had in the past. The only problem was the guy at the table next to us who loved to hear his own voice. We will be back soon in the near future.
