We went to Harold's for dinner after only ever having been in the lounge area. The menu has a great selection and there were specials as well. My husband ordered the salmon and I had the Thai special fish. The salmon came with mashed potatoes and beans. The Thai fish came with rice and veggies. Both fish dishes were cooked perfectly. The veggies were done great as well. The server we had was excellent. She was quick with water refills and took good care of our children...bringing them smaller glasses for water and extra napkins. We will definitely be ack again..FYI there is not charge for parking I you register your car.
We went to Calabash with a group for my husband's birthday for the first time. Our group ordered various appies and main dishes. I ordered the prawn and green papaya salad and the seafood roti. You know it's going to be good food when you run into your roti lady in the Resturant. The salad was excellent...came with 4 prawns with jerk spice on top of a mountain us slaw with chunks of fish. I would order that on a return trip. My husband had the crab cake appy that came with 2 good sized cakes a little salad and a bit of slaw. They were tastie as well. Others around the table ordered the jerk poutine, doubles, featured coconut mushroom soup and plantain chips. All reports back your that the food was yummy! My seafood roti was tastie and it came with a side salad that was refreshing. Make sure you add a little pepper sauce to your roti just to add a little more favour. Now let talk drinks...Yummy! We ordered many of the rum drinks. Try the coconut jumby and the one with the basil. All the drinks were amazing. The service was great and server was very knowledgable. Will be back again or sure.
Purchased a $30.00 for $15.00 coupon on Living Social for this place a while back with intentions of taking a friend who lives in the neighbourhood to dinner. Friend or no friend I will be going back for sure. We were seating quickly and and handed menus. The menu is laid out for quick reference. The server was over quickly to see if we were ready to order and returned in a good amount of time when we were. We ordered the calamari with thai chilli dipping sauce, trio of agedashi tofu, crunchy Go-Go roll, lady mango and deep fried cali. The rolls were between $6.00-$7.00. Everything we ordered was yummy! The calamari was cooked to perfection. The rolls were fancy and unique. This is not your regular sushi place and the food is priced right!
We have dined here for dinner a couple of times though never for brunch. My husband drove by yesterday and suggested we go for brunch today with the kids. When we arrived we had the pick of the place. We were promptly seated and had water and menus. I ordered the shrimp omelet, my husband had the steak benny and the kids an plain omelet. Well our food was being cooked the kids sat-up at the bar to watch the cook, cook their meal. He was friendly and served them some fruit as they watched. When the food arrived at the table the kids food was separated onto 2 plates. With each breakfast there was fresh fruits ( pineapple and melons.) The portion was so big no one finished their meals. My husband and I took half our meals home. Serve was great. We had our water glasses refiled a couple of times as well as my hot water from my tea. Our meals came with fresh warm yummy bread that was accompanied with some tasty butter. While we dined other entered the restaurant that clearly were regulars. The cook was friendly and greeted the others. This meal was one of the best meals we have had in a restaurant with our family (children age 2 & 3.) I contribute this the friendly quick service and the food. On a side note they have 1/2 priced pasta nights Monday & Tuesday nights and it's worth going!
We went to Darby's last week. This was the first time I have eaten there though my husband has been there is years past. We went for an adult date night with a gift card that I had won on The Peak. From what I understand they have a new menu. There was a great variety on the menu leaving anyone happy. We ordered 4 different items to share. The first was the squash cheese fondue. This dish was yummy...The fondue was accompanied by garlic bread and broccoli. While we were eating the fondue became cold so we asked the server to reheat it. She responded with we have no microwave so we will need to put it back in the oven. Neediness to say we were pleasantly surprise and more then happy to wait to not have microwaved food! The next dish we had was warm beet salad with goat cheese. This salad was perfect for sharing and yummy also. The only suggest I would make is for the chef to cut the pieces for beet into bite size pieces. They came in big rounds. We also ordered wings. They had 2 specialty flavours of jasmine ginger or habanero. We ordered salt and pepper with a side of sauces. The wings came with both flavours and blue cheese dip. The burger list was long and yummy. You can order the burger only or burger with your choice of a side. We ordered a cheese and prawn topped cat fish burger. (No charge for subbing a veggie, $1.00 for subbing cat fish) The cat fish burger came on a long wholewheat bun. It was excellent...so great that I only ate 1/2 and took the rest for lunch the next day. During our time there was a game of trivia that was popular with others. Another thing is to mention is that they have a good number of beers on tab. We will definitely be back and have told friends to do the same. Try Darby's if you haven't in a while...you will leave happy!!!
I ended up here during the Olympics to get away from the downtown core. The first time I had the fish & chips and it was good. My friends had the burger and the other a sandwich. They both enjoyed what they ordered. Was here recently and ordered the veggie burger. It was excellent. There was a crunch in every bite. I asked the server what it was. The burger has almonds in it. I think they make their own veggie burger. I would order that again when I go again. During th Olympics we enjoyed the large TV's to watch sports. We had to wait for a table and was offered the drink menu while we waited. Nice to have a cold drink while you wait.
We went out tonight to Ouisi for dinner as we do every couple of months. When reviewing their menu we noticied that they have made some changes. There are new items on the menu and they have added that you can choose 2 sides with your main dish. There were approx. 10 sides to choose from. AND they have brought back the comp. corn bread with the meal. My husband ordered the southern fried chicken with smoked cream corn and beets. I ordered the gulf prawns with yummy diablo sauce. There is a choice of 2 different sauces. The diablo is a mixture of BBQ & hot sauce. For my 2 sides I had the coleslaw and sweet potato/peacan hash. Our meals were excellent!!! The chicken was very lightly breaded with a tasty sauce and the were 10 sizeable prawns with ample sauce. The sides were in a dish that I would call a cup. They were all great too. The cost was reasonable. The chicken was $17.00 the prawns were $16.00. Great valueand quality for what we paid. We had the same friendly server that we have had in the past. The only problem was the guy at the table next to us who loved to hear his own voice. We will be back soon in the near future.
We recently tried this place fo the first and second time. We ordered take-out both times. First off the food is prepared by Japanese people. You can not always say that about a Sushi/Japanese rest. in Vancouver. The first time we ordered a combo dinner #6. There were 3 different rolls in the combo; Dynomite( yam and prawn inside,) a california roll and a ebi maki roll( whole shrimp and avacodo.) Included was miso soup. The cost was $8.75. A little high priced then other places where I have had a simular combo though totally worth it for the quality and size of the rolls. We also ordered cream corn croquette. They were wonderful! There were 3 large croquettes that needed to be cut into 4 small pieces since they were so big. We also ordered ebi sunomono salad. It was good. They have sunomono salads that have ebi, crab and octopus all together. We would like to try one of those sometime. They are $4.95, so they would be worth it when ordering only a roll.
The second take-out order was the combo #6, a veggie roll and agedashi tofu. Again the quality was excellent. I have heard from other people that they also have off the menu specials that are for eat-in only as well as lunch combo specials. We will have to try the this rest. for lunch sometime.
I discovered this place a couple of months ago when picking up chinese food from a neighbouring rest. for my husband. I looked at their takeout menu and decided to order a veggie dragon roll ($7.50.) Got it home and it was great. Good size roll with plenty of ingredents inside. Another time I phoned a head for take-out. I ordered a combo roll that has 3 different rolls. I asked to switch a roll for a same priced roll. Was told on the phone no problem. When I arrived the price from the menu had increased a $1.00. When I question the increase, the women told me that there was an addition charge for changing combos. When I told her that I was not told I would be charged for changing, she took the addition $1.00 off. Another time I ordered the veggie dragon roll again and spicy tofu. When I went to pay for my order, I noticed it cost an additional $1.45 for the dragon roll. I questioned why, the women said the other lady must not know the price. The dragon roll this time was smaller and less flavour then previously. The spicy tofu sauce was good though. Over all this place is good. I wish their quality was the same each time and that they paid closer attention to what they are charging people.
We recently tried the Reef after not eating there for 3 years. We used to go there often and when their food quality went down we stopped. We were in the neighbourhood and were hungry so we stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. We noticed the menu now is limited. Some of the items we liked before are no longer on the menu. We ordered the roti. The menu says that it's trini style roti though it is not. It's their best attempt at it. Better then a tortia though not real trini roti. For around 10 you get a roti with your choice of veggie ( tofu) or meat selection inside the roti skin. I had the veggie and my husband had the chicken. It comes with a side of coleslaw. It was tasty. The roti had a good amount of stuffing inside. We were surprised that the roti had improved. We left fairly happy and full. Good place to have some drinks and a bite to eat.
We were looking for a new Indian take-out place that we would be happy with everytime. We had, had some not so yummy experinces other places and had heard that Tandoori Kona was good. We thought that we would give it a try. We are so glad we did!
They have a veggie combo that is great b/c you can choose what 3 dishes you would like from their veggie dishes. It comes with rice, salad and one those indian timbits. There is always enough there for 2 meals. If you like you food med/hot ask for mild/med and it will be perfect. My husband always gets the butter chicken. He loves it from this place. There seems to be a good amount of chicken chunks. Their nan is also good. We love this place so much that we drive from Vancouver to get take-out!
We recently tried this place again after not eating there for 2 1/2 years. We use to eat in and take out monthly when the old owners owned the place. Back then it was excellent both food & service. Since the new owners have taken over the we have ordered take-out twice and sorry we had. We will not be ordering from here again. We ordered butter chicken. The sauce was okay though the chicken was minimal. We also had the eggplant. It was oily and not too much flavour. We asked for medium heat. Their medium hot was "HOT."
