Good Food, Good Prices. Really happy this place is close by
Submitted Wednesday, June 13, 2012 - 1:47pm [Delivery]

We have ordered delivery twice and take-out once. Only complaint - first time we ordered from there they forgot our side of naan..also...I was expecting more from my cucumber salad than a container of sliced cucs and a side of sauce and ranch dip but what do I know. Each time we have LOVED our meals. I personally really like the pizza crust. I would say hands down best pizza in this price range. We have had Samosas, pakoras, vindaloo, tikka masala, korma, aloo gobi and butter chicken. All of them had a lot of flavor and none of them were too spicy for me to eat. Prices are very reasonable and will keep us coming back (along with the food of course). Both on the phone and delivery the service was pleasant.

I Love Sushi228 Schoolhouse St, #3, Coquitlam
My favorite sushi place
Submitted Wednesday, May 16, 2012 - 6:22am [Dine in]

I have been going here for 3 years and have always had consistently great sushi and great service. Most of the girls here are EXTREMELY friendly, always smiling every time I am there - and on some weeks that has been 2 to 3 times. When my son was a baby even the chef came out of the kitchen to talk to him which I thought was really nice. They are very busy but service has always been fast. They have decorated the walls with photos of patrons which is kind of neat.

I like there sushi better than other restaurants because I find that the rice is better than most - not too sticky. The yam tempura roll has a lot of deep orange yam and the avocado roll is always the freshest avocado there is. The prices are a bit higher than anywhere I have been but that is offset by the complimentary edemame they give for dine-in guests or the yam roll for take-out. That was too be honest the thing that got me hooked in the first place. For about a year (2010/11 ish) when I went in I was rarely getting the yam cone with my take-out meals even on large orders so my visits slowed a bit but this last 6 months I have received it every time, yay! If the complimentary snack was a gaurantee I would rate value 4.5.

I love this place!
Submitted Sunday, December 21, 2008 - 12:04pm [Dine in]

This place is excellent, and on a consistent basis. I have been several times, ordered take out and brought a group of people from work with no dissapointments. if you need an appy go for the dahi poori, Yum! I have yet to order something I didn't enjoy. The portions look like average sizes but curry must be filling because I have never finsihed my whole meal. I would definitely recommend Bombay Bhel.

Amazing service
Submitted Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 9:40pm [Dine in]

This place is great. My boyfriend and I had never had Etheopian food and one of our friends from out of town insisted we try. Finding the reviews on line we decided on Lalibela. Like the other reviews I believe it was the owner that served us. He was wonderful, and perhaps because you feel like your being serviced by the owner you want to give them your business. The food was really good - I picked off the plates of my two companions because I ordered something that was WAY too spicy for me. Make sure you ask how hot it is before you order! Definitely an awesome experience, comfortable and relaxed, The only thing I could ask for is it to feel a little less like a diner but hey who cares it's still Wonderful!

Awkward Visit
Submitted Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 8:57pm [Dine in]

Your review is hilarious Sindee. I went there for the first (and last...but for no reason other than I have been trying other places) about 3 months ago and had the exact same experience. The service was SUPER SLOW, we didn't eat so I cannot comment on the food - 5 because unknown is not allowed and I didn't want to bring down their rating - but the servers were in a major war. I went to pay my bill and the one server went so far as to dump her frustration with one waitress on to me...cursing as she is talking I would like to add...and then said "you better not tip her" angrily. On a positive side the inside is very nice and the live music was amazing.

Anton's Pasta Bar4260 E Hastings Street, Burnaby
Just too inconsistent to give a great review
Submitted Sunday, August 10, 2008 - 2:00pm [Dine in]

Food Rating - Not Great
*worst level of consistency for any restaurant I have ever been to
*always dry or burnt meat topped on pasta
*a few dishes are completely flavorless
*several different choices is nice

Service Rating - Pretty Good
*friendly and polite servers
*long waits at all times with lineups out the door
*Servers are trying to pack up your food while you are still eating
so they can seat the next customers
*no debt - but banks are close by

Value Rating - Average (for the quality) $15 per plate
*again -back to the inconsistency- if it was made perfectly even
75% of the time you went this would be a 4
*minimum of $11 per person so 2 cannot go and share a meal
for value, would be nice if they had half servings
*Quite a few dishes are nothing more than a plate
overflowing with pasta and very little substance
*bread is not served unless requested - not a big deal

Ambiance - no complaints
*always busy so very upbeat atmosphere
*very small space for the clientele they have accumulated over
the years - the line makes it famous too, not only their portions
so I doubt they will want to move to a bigger space
*because your so close to your neighbour you can't help but gawk
at the huge plate of food sitting across from you while you wait
for yours - it all looks really good!

I must admit, I am guilty of eating at Anton's on several occasions...always trying to order something different because there are so many options. It is a popular take-out choice at my work, and I live right down the street. I have never been to a restaurant more inconsistent. The pasta is ok but be careful for the days it is just plain aweful. I thought I found the baked pasta of my dreams about a month ago, maybe I was just really hungry. I raved about the "Manicotti Anton’s" calling it the best pasta dish I have ever had anywhere. Two weeks later I ordered the same dish, not impressed. The cheese was blackened burnt on top, the ingredients tasted different and the noodles were completely dry, I threw it out. Twice they have put the wrong sauce on my husbands pasta, "Al Porto" - a good pasta when cooked properly. It's not worth sending back to the kitchen because it will take another 20 minutes before you can eat. I think you have to go and experience Anton's but don't expect a gourmet meal.

Shark Club Bar & Grill, The4399 Lougheed Hwy, Burnaby
An After Work Hang-out
Submitted Monday, February 25, 2008 - 1:17am [Dine in]

The Shark club is perfect for groups. Lots of room. TV's everywhere for Canucks lovers and great food, not to mention a huge patio. I have been many times and have to say the service is really hit or miss. I think it may be the difference from upstairs to down but I haven't figured it out yet. So far I would say downstairs = good service,
upstairs = close to terrible. Great place to go. Definitely recommended...but even with the over-stuffed lounge chairs and dimmer lighting upstairs don't expect to feel too comfortable. Shark club is aiming to be a sports bar, and thats what it is.

Thirsty Duck, The606 12th Street, New Westminster
Dingy but Comfortable
Submitted Monday, February 25, 2008 - 1:04am [Dine in]

The Thirsty Duck is a great place to pop in for a few reasonably priced drinks, maybe have an appy and play a bit of Keno.

You can tell that most of the patrons are regulars. This Dingy little pub seems to be the watering hole for the middle-aged singles that like to chat it up with the surrounding tables and maybe have a little too much to drink. But don't get me wrong, the many times I have been in, the age group has ranged from 19-65. The friendly atmosphere, although filled with cigarette smoke, creates a very relaxed environment.

There is a pool table and juke box perfect to hang around by with some friends if you can get a few games in, everyone is drawn to this!

The food is all very reasonably priced but nothing to call home about. That being said, the burger and beer special for $4.99 is hard to beat!

And for my favorite part of the thirsty duck...all the staff look genuinely happy to be there! How refreshing. I have never been there with an empty glass and the servers are always checking up to see how you are. And if there is no table to serve at that moment, they are striking up conversations with the patrons who are there to have a beer rather than hanging around the bar talking to each other. How great is that!

I definitely recommend the Duck for a comfortable environment and cheap drinks. If you are looking for something a little cleaner & classier with good food and tons of TV's for sports lovers, try River's Reach a few blocks up....but don't expect good service like you get at the Thirsty Duck.

Rivers Reach Pub320 6th St., New Westminster
Best Sports Bar in New West
Submitted Monday, February 25, 2008 - 12:04am [Dine in]

I have lived In New West for a year without realizing this place existed. I was missing out! This upscale pub is great for lunch dates, dinner or having a few drinks and watching the game on one of their many TV's. Even on the heated/covered patio they have a big screen accompanied by a keno and poker tv.

The menu is quite extensive with great daily specials. The saturday half price pizza is amazing! Prices are reasonable as well. An all around great pub.

That being said...non of the waitresses look like they want to be there and service can be a bit slow. The one thing that really annoys me is standing at the bar for 5 minutes waiting to put through a keno ticket and having three different waitresses walk infront of you (behind the bar....beside the till) a handful of times and not even go so far as to say "someone will be right with you".

For the atmosphere and food that Rivers Reach has I can live with the service. Nobody can be perfect! My new local favorite. And I will be telling others to give it a try too.
