I Cafe2525 Heather Street, Vancouver
Slow service and mediocre food
Submitted Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 10:15pm [Dine in]

Went to I-Cafe tonight for dinner with some friends, my previous visit before tonight was rather disappointing and had discouraged me from going for at least a year.
I was disappointed to find out nothing has changed, service, food, menu...etc. It was dinner time so we expected the prices to be higher than the late night dinner sets. I had a smoked salmon salad which consisted of four thin slices of smoked salmon and some mixed veggies. It was poorly presented and I could barely finish it. My meal was $15, including a bowl of soup and a cold drink.
One of my friends did not order off the combo menu, instead he had noodles in soup and an iced lemon tea on the side. The drink alone was $3.50.
My other two friends had baked dishes and both could not finish their food, not because the portions were generous but because of the poor quality. One of them kept saying it was a torture while he was trying to finish his baked seafood rice, which had way too much sauce but lacked any real flavor.
The service was very slow too, took a while for the servers to acknowledge us when we walked in, although there were plenty of empty tables. Took a long time for them to take our order and bring our bill as well.
We weren't surprised by the high prices as we aware of the fact that it was dinner time and prices should be higher. However, with the quality of the food and service we received tonight, I cannot say it was good value at all.
With several other options just a 5-minute drive away, I don't think I will return to I-Cafe any time soon.

I Love Sandbar
Submitted Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - 12:20am [Dine in]

I always recommend Sandbar to people I know because I have never had a bad experience there. I go there regularly for some fresh seafood and outstanding service. They are always busy but I have always received friendly, informative and attentive service. Their patio offers some magnificent views and the atmosphere is just right - elegant, relaxing and not pretentious. I particularly love their sable fish, it's always cooked to perfection with fresh veggies on the side. The value is not bad considering the quality of food and service, and the location is simply unbeatable. Highly recommended.

Crave3941 Main St., Vancouver
A very pleasant experience
Submitted Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - 12:11am [Dine in]

Had dinner at Crave over the weekend and very much enjoyed my meal. We had the ahi tuna rolls as appetizer which were very delicious, the lightly fried seaweed was crunchy and the tuna was fresh. For entree I had the BBQ baby ribs which was fantastic, I loved both the ribs and the fries on the side. They have a small patio in the front and a larger one in the back. Only complaint is that the tables are too close together, you are literally sitting next to the neighboring patrons. The service was decent as well. All in all a pleasant dinning experience.

Mediocre Food
Submitted Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - 12:05am [Dine in]

It's definitely a very convenient location, great place for lunch if you work in the area. They offer lunch specials and there are quite a few options on the lunch menu. However, their food is hardly authentic and the pad thai has got to be one of the worst I have ever had. It was very dry, extremely bland with overcooked prawns and bean sprouts that looked like they had been sitting around for a few days. The curries are decent but all the other dishes I have tried there have been rather tasteless. The service is better than the food, the servers are always attentive and polite. Once again, it's the place to go for a quick lunch in a pleasant atmosphere, but the food is only passable at best.

Horrendous Service!
Submitted Thursday, July 9, 2009 - 12:43am [Dine in]

Same as many others, I visit Starbucks on a daily basis and the coffee and the service had never disappointed me...until over a month ago when I went to this location. The girl who took my coffee order showed absolutely no respect for the customers as well as her job. I went up to her saying good morning, all I got was a blunt and cold response "what would you like?" I placed my order, then sat down at a table with my boyfriend while waiting for our drinks. As my boyfriend was only visiting and was leaving that evening, I wanted to take a picture with him. The girl behind the counter saw me holding up my phone and SHOUTED at me "Excuse me, no pictures allowed in here!". Obviously I was embarrassed and the way she yelled made me feel like I was almost committing a crime. And she also forgot my order and the barista ended up making me the wrong drink.
She wasn't picking on me though as she was treating everyone else the same way. Some other customers were obviously shocked by her attitude as well. I have many friends who work at Starbucks and I know it's a good company to work for, so if this particular girl is so dissatisfied with her job, she might want to consider finding herself something else outside of the service industry.

Earls4361 Kingsway, Burnaby
Always a pleasant dining experience
Submitted Thursday, July 9, 2009 - 12:18am [Dine in]

I find this Earls one of the better locations; the interior is similar to many other Earls', trendy, loud and dark. I enjoy the atmosphere every time I am there, and the food is always consistently good. I can't say it's great value as the prices aren't low, however, I definitely prefer Earls over other similar chains. I like their menu, not complex or pretentious and there's always something for everyone. I love their calamari! I order their pasta almost every time and it's always delicious, and the portions are generous too.
Their patio's very nice at this location, they have individual "tents" set up in the summer with blankets provided to customers when needed. Although all the traffic and noise on Kingsway might not be too pleasant, I really like being able to be outside enjoying the fresh air and sun while having a good meal.
The service is just okay because I find the servers not very attentive, and some of them can be quite fake too.

Overall a very nice establishment, will certainly keep returning :)

Great View - Horrible Food
Submitted Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 10:04pm [Dine in]

I've been to Bridges twice and were disappointed both times. It took over 15 minutes for our server to come to the table to greet us the first time we went. The second time, our server brought us our drinks then disappeared. They seem to pay much more attention to big tables. The first time I had fish & chips and the second time Halibut. The fish was obviously left in the fryer for too long - it was burnt and tasteless.
It's a nice-looking restaurant with beautiful views to offer, but the service and the food certainly don't worth the price you pay. Won't go back again.

Always a nice experience
Submitted Saturday, June 27, 2009 - 11:12pm [Dine in]

I've dined in Felico's several times and have always enjoyed the food. The decor in the restaurant is nice, I especially like the skylights. I've tried different dishes and my favorites are the seafood linguine and shack of lamb. Their calamari's very fresh too. The portions are generous compared to other seafood / greek restaurants of similar style, and their summer specials are pretty good deals considering you get a three-course dinner for around $26. The only disappointment might be the desserts - very boring and unmemorable.

Great Deal, Dirty Place
Submitted Wednesday, June 24, 2009 - 2:58pm [Dine in]

We finally had the opportunity to try out this restaurant after hearing many good comments about their breakfast special. Our first impression was that the restaurant was quite dirty, and looked very disorganized. We were a bit scared to use the utensils on the table and ended up wiping them thoroughly with our napkins ourselves. The breakfast was delightful though, tasty, filling, and cheap.
The bill came to $15 for the four of us, including coffee. Such a great deal!
Overall it was a pleasant experience, no complaints!

In no rush to return...
Submitted Wednesday, May 27, 2009 - 12:52am [Dine in]

Friend had a decent meal there a while ago so we went together tonight since we were in the area. The atmosphere was fine, a bit on a dark side while the sun was so nice a bright outside. The server (owner?) was very welcoming and made nice remarks and humorous comments throughout our dinner. We had the mussels as an appetizer and were both a bit disappointed by the size of the mussels. Very tiny, but the sauce was great. I had linguine with pesto and my friend had a pasta with scallop. Both of our dishes were very plain. We shared a tiramisu for dessert which was fine, but not remarkable. Overall, the dinner was enjoyable and the service was good. The wait for the entrees was a bit long though.

Value was okay, the bill came to $73 for the two of us, we had a couple glasses of wine too. We both agreed our server deserved a good tip though, so I'd say the service was quite pleasant.

Way too sweeeeet
Submitted Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 4:05pm [Dine in]

I know many people enjoy indulging themselves in desserts. People say sweets can take away your stress. I enjoy desserts once in a while too but I've never liked Krispy Kreme because what they sell is way toooo sweet for me and my family.
Of course there are still many people who are loyal to the brand and their fresh products. It is true that their donuts are much better than other packaged ones they sell at superstore / safeway. I can imagine them having a hard time surviving in the future though if they don't change their products, since the new generation's all about eating and living healthily.

Our favorite!
Submitted Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 3:55pm [Dine in]

I understand how the service can put many customers in shock, especially the ones who are not accustomed to the typical "asian way" of service. However, their food is certainly spectacular - we are regulars who visit almost every week! Their dim sum portions are huge, food is always fresh with lots of varieties to choose from. If you want great value, nice dim sum and don't care too much about service, you should visit this restaurant, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Sushi Town5935 Hastings Street, Burnaby
Good but not outstanding
Submitted Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 3:51pm [Dine in]

I am a regular customer of sushi town and I enjoy their sushi every time I visit. I choose this restaurant when I want sushi because their food is fresh and consistent, their service is solid and their prices are reasonable. I know the huge size of the sashimi isn't for everyone - even my boyfriend doesn't like it. Their speciality rolls are delicious, I particularly enjoy the Awesome Roll. Their portions are huge, food is always served quickly, service is standard as expected in similar japanese restaurants. Overall, it's an okay restaurant for fresh sushi at reasonable prices. You get what you pay for.

Worst Service Ever! Ruined Our Evening.
Submitted Wednesday, January 28, 2009 - 3:34pm [Dine in]

We went here on Chinese New Year because my brother who had come back from Hong Kong was craving hot pot. Bad choice. Our special evening was ruined by the horrendous service we received. Even my dad who's very used to "Honger-style" service was upset. The waitresses showed absolutely NO emotion on their faces, NO smile whatsoever, and they wouldn't even bother to talk to you! My dad ordered a beer on the order sheet and when it arrived, it was thrown on the table in front of him. My dad asked the waitress:"What is this?", hoping she'd at least acknowledge the fact that she was "serving" a Heineken. She looked at my dad angrily, turned around and came back with our order sheet. "This is your order sheet?" in a very confrontational tone. And when my brother finally responded and said yes, she gave my dad a very annoyed face before walking away. What kind of service is this?? We all grew up in Hong Kong and yes I have to admit some places in Hong Kong you just don't get the kind of service you deserve. But that was absolutely shocking - considering it was a busy place and this is VANCOUVER!!

No wonder they didn't have a line up when a similar restaurant had a waiting list.

We will never ever return to this place since they don't seem like they care anyways.

(I am starting to regret leaving a tip that night...)

Pretty good Italian
Submitted Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - 12:35am [Dine in]

My best friend and I decided to try this Italian restaurant after reading all the reviews. We had a pretty pleasant dinner, both of our pastas were filling and delicious. Portions were reasonable, but the server could have been a little more attentive. The owner / manager of the restaurant greeted us and checked on us several times during our dinner. His service was a lot more delightful than our server. The ambiance was quite nice, we were offered one of the smallest tables right beside the washrooms as we didn't have a reservation, but it was a good experience overall.

Definitely one of the best!
Submitted Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - 12:29am [Dine in]

One of the best thai restaurants I've ever been to. The food is always fresh and tasty, portions are generous and service is consistent. They seem to do a lot of take-outs, the atmosphere is very relaxing and the decorations are nice. They have big parties at lunch time when they serve $7.5 lunch specials, we've tried their dinner combinations as well, we've never been disappointed! Highly recommended!!
