Hearty Mexican Food
Submitted Thursday, August 10, 2006 - 8:06pm [Dine in]

I can't profess to being an expert on Mexican cuisine, so I'm not qualified to say whether the food is authentic or not. That being said, lunch here was delicious and filling, and perhaps even more important...affordable! The tacos and redondo were generously filled with tasty spiced beef. Lunch specials ($4.99) come with your choice of drink (pop or limonada - a limey slushee that was quite nice). Service was okay; there was only one waitress taking orders (both sit in and takeout) and delivering food to tables, but food arrived quickly. Looking forward to trying some of their other menu items in the future!

yum!
Submitted Friday, August 4, 2006 - 11:36pm [Dine in]

I've visited Hime a few times and all times I have found it to be a pleasant experience. Their unagi don is tasty and filling, as are their chicken teriyaki don and udons. The sashimi is fresh and tasty, and the tempura batter is crispy and light, not overly greasy like I have found some other places to be. The sushi itself is quite good as well; the last time I went a couple of the rolls' seaweed was a little bit on the chewy side, but for the most part they were quite nice. Ambiance is cozy and small, and the entire restaurant is usually served by a single waitress. Definitely on my to-return-to list :)

hmmm
Submitted Friday, August 4, 2006 - 11:29pm [Dine in]

Went here for some quick take-out with my usual dining partner. Service was okay, but it's hard to judge when we're just getting take-out. In terms of ambiance it was pretty average...nothing special, but nothing horrifying.
Our order was made relatively quickly, and we were out of the restaurant and heading back home after 10 minutes.
Once home and the sushi was being consumed, we both found it rather underwhelming. The fish, though relatively fresh, did not have that much flavour, not even the delicate sushi taste that I rather enjoy. My co-diner was not fond of the warm chopped scallop sushi but the one I had was cold.
Not sure if I'll be making a return trip...the food wasn't awful but there are about a dozen other sushi places within walking distance that I'll probably sample first out of curiosity.

mmmmmmushroom bruschetta
Submitted Saturday, June 24, 2006 - 10:36am [Dine in]

went here with some friends on a Friday night. service was quite attentive and the decor of the restaurant is very nice.
they started us with house-baked foccaccia and chickpea hummus, which was delicious [the four of us consumed two plates], and we ordered cocktails to start and a mushroom bruschetta to share [it was fantastic! soft buttery mushrooms on a thin toast with shavings of cheese....simple yet so good!]. main courses were really good, both flavour-wise and price-wise. the steak is tender and juicy, and generous in amount. ditto for the lamb shanks, which practically melts in your mouth. the chicken is also very good. we didn't have room for dessert but we would definitely go back to try!

good eats on the Drive
Submitted Monday, June 5, 2006 - 11:02pm [Dine in]

was strolling down the Drive looking for something "different" and happened upon this Turkish room [which features live music at night].
Food was very good. The sigara boregi [which the server helped us with pronouncing] was great...light and tasty with a savory feta/herb/sesame filling. my dining partner confided that he could eat these all day...except that he'd miss out on the tasty main courses. the bbq chicken and bbq meatballs were scrumptious and the portion sizes were generous. prices are very reasonable.
Service and ambiance were also really good. definitely give props to the server for putting up with our massacring of the pronounciation of the food terms. :) the room is decorated with trendy mirrors, paintings, and rugs; there is plenty of comfortable seating and looks like it can accomodate a variety of tastes, be it a date, a night out listening to a jazzy jam session, or taking a group of friends for a tasty dinner.
Definitely on the list of places to go back to! :)

andy warhol!
Submitted Saturday, May 27, 2006 - 12:16am [Dine in]

Visited the Eatery twice and was seated quite quickly despite it being rather crowded. Packed full of Astroboy relics, Andy Warhol paintings, and students looking for a funkadelic time.
Firstly food: their "large" california rolls are humongous, 6 of those can easily comprise most if not all of a meal [and at a very good price too]. My dining partner had an unagi don - bbq eel on rice...very tasty and lots of unagi, unlike most places that give quite a bit less. And probably the highlight and the reason why i would return: the andy warhol roll!!! yuuummmmm :)
Service was okay given that the restaurant was pretty much packed, but yes a little hit and miss. Ambience: unique! love the paper mache [and the miso hungry/horny sign], and the paintings are awesome too. Can be a bit dark though, but other than pretty good :)
