Montana's Cookhouse20100 Langley Bypass, Langley
Best Hot Wings
Submitted Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - 4:45pm [Dine in]

Okay... so Montanas... where do I start...

When people think of hot wings, I am sure Montanas is pretty low on the ladder for restaurants that pop into your head. Montanas has some of the best hot wings I have ever had... corn breaded to perfection, hot as heck if you like them that way... I crave them regularly and eat them regularly. Burgers are pretty good as well and usually served with all the goodies, ketchup relish and mustard bottles so you can douse the thing to your hearts desire.

On the other hand, ribs? okay but I would expect better... Meatloaf?? (yes, I once ordered the meatloaf) stay away unless you enjoy eating salt... Service? unusually poor even when compared to other chain restaurants. Ambiance, well... okay I guess... the new location in South Surrey is much better but then again, it is new. (I also find the food and service in South Surrey to be more consistent).

All in all if I did not get supreme cravings for their hotwings, I would skip this place, but if you want a cold pint and a basket of wings that will knock your socks off??? Montanas should be your destination of choice.

Pear Tree, The4120 Hastings Street, Burnaby
North Burnaby's little secret...
Submitted Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - 12:48am [Dine in]

If the Pear Tree opened up in Yaletown, it would be one of the best restaurants in Yaletown. The owners were crazy to put such an incredible restaurant in North Burnaby on Hastings Street but amazingly their insanity paid off and it seems they have made a real success. Incredible food, incredible decor, incredible service... unique dining experience. These people truly care about food.

Any time someone suggests the Pear Tree for dinner I get excited. I highly recommend this for date night or small more formal dinner parties.

Leela Thai Restaurant1310 Johnston Road, White Rock
Best Thai in South Surrey / White Rock
Submitted Tuesday, June 28, 2011 - 11:48pm [Dine in]

Leela has slowed a bit likely due to the influx of Thai eateries in South Surrey, which is too bad because Leela should be the busiest. I will say that this is the BEST Thai restaurant in South Surrey and I have eaten at them all. Service is great, food is great, if you are craving Thai this is the place to go.

Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie163 Keefer, Vancouver
Hope Bao Bei is in business forever.
Submitted Tuesday, June 28, 2011 - 11:28pm [Dine in]

The secret to this restaurant is to keep it a secret, because with limited seating it is sometimes tough to get a table without showing up before the doors open... but... that is not a complaint. I absolutely love this restaurant, if I still lived in the city I would definitely be a regular. I recommend it for dates and small dinner parties, try hitting up the Keefer Bar a few doors down later in the night for drinks. Have recommended this place to all my friends an get consistently great reviews from them.

Thank you Bao Bei for making Chinatown cool again!

La Baia Italian Restaurant15791 Marine Drive, White Rock
The real deal!
Submitted Tuesday, June 28, 2011 - 11:15pm [Dine in]

La Baia is simply my favorite Italian Eatery in White Rock and one of my favorite places to eat period. I drop in from time to time, but not often enough. The menu is oldschool and tasty - I like to order Veal Scaloppini Con Funghi & Lemone with Spaghetti Aglio Olio e Peperoncino and I die and go to heaven every time I eat there. Decor is stuck in the 80s but in the kind of way that after you dine there you will pray they never renovate, the service is PROFESSIONAL which is extremely rare nowadays and frankly adds to the experience in a big way. The place gets busy, I have been a few times without a reservation and it was tough to get a table.

Water Street Cafe300 Water St, Vancouver
Don't be sucked in by the menu and ambiance
Submitted Monday, June 27, 2011 - 9:09pm [Dine in]

Waterstreet Cafe must survive on location and location only.

Food is mediocre westcoast italian, very behind the times and no where near the quality you expect nowadays in Vancouver. Service is borderline arrogant and lacks proper fine dining training. Heard swearing from the open kitchen, so much for a romantic evening.

'The verdict is... so many great places to eat in Vancouver, don't get sucked in by the ambiance, menu and windows. This place survives from steam clock/cruise ship, one time eaters.
