Service = Epic fail

I went here for the first time last night for a relative's birthday dinner which was held in the private room. I understand that this is a jazz spot, but lighting the entire private room primarily with red and blue stage lights made it a bit difficult to see our meals. An improvement to this would be tea lights--not too bright, especially if there's a performance going on.

I feel that as far as the food goes, they're trying to please too many audiences by branding themselves as an Asian and Cajun/Creole joint. This hodgepodge of cuisines makes it difficult for the restaurant to have any distinctive specialties on the menu, but perhaps that is my own personal opinion.

What I do know for a fact is that their service is absolutely awful. Though I understand that servers have quite a bit of pressure on them for large parties, it is absolutely no excuse for presumptuous service. Allow me to explain: my boyfriend and I were sharing a table with another couple, and we had ordered the bruschetta appetizer to go with our meal. While we were engrossed in mid-conversation with this other couple, our server came by our table and picked up our appetizer plate (which was half full with food) without even bothering to ask us if we were finished with it. In fact, one of our tablemates exclaimed that we were not yet finished with it. There was no apology after this mistake was made.

I should also mention that our bruschetta appetizer was brought out when other guests' meals were being brought out to them. This delayed our own meals, which probably wouldn't have been served to us had we not asked the server to bring out our meals while our appetizer was brought out.

Needless to say, I found service to be extremely poor.

Food quality was lacklustre--the bruschetta was soggy and the salads have been over seasoned with minced mint leaves. The teriyaki chicken pasta dish is a fusion that should never have been created, as it neither authentic in an Asian sense nor would I consider it to be the most appetizing dish, unless you have a penchant for extremely sweet sauces.
