We had been waiting to go back to the new re-opened Slickity Jims for months. Walking by everyday on my way to work window shopping for yummy new breakfast treats and on the hunt for a new place to relax on Sunday mornings.
Upon arrival we received a welcome that was not unlike one you may have seen on Cheers (the tv show).
Walking in we looked around with glazed eyes as the design element of this spunky diner is outstanding.
The dark brown leather diner booth seats with wallpapered walls and beautiful vintage lamps are enough to pack up and call this home. The new bar is a big solid slab of beautiful cedar that really gives you something to eat on.
I moseyed into the back and there is a sunny little backroom with wooden seats and tables. I found this to be a really nice touch and provides some variation for future regulars.
Our service was very quick to answer any questions we had, serve our drinks (which were tasty), and give us a laugh. Without overstaying her welcome (you know what I mean).
Slickity Jims offers a chalkboard dinner menu. We ordered
The 'Wild Mushroom Risotto' was too much warm rice, and not enough taste mushrooms for $10. The portion was also more along the lines of a big Appetizer then a dinner item.
The Tofu Skewers where our biggest disappointment. My friend ordered dinner and recieved 3 tofu skewers on a pretty white plate. Tasty, but the portion this time was appalling for a dinner item. Priced at $7 though it's hard to complain. Yet another appetizer I think.
When the bill came we where over charged. However, I would not factor this into anything considering this was opening day.
OVERALL :
Slickity Jims has a lot going for it now. The new space is beautiful, the servers are warm and welcoming, and the food is delicious, albeit the dinner menu is about 30% too small.
If this is supposed to be a diner then let it be a diner. The dinner menu feels more like something you might have at one of the more 'fancy' Main St restaurants. Where you go for dinner, and then you go for dinner again.
