We order takeout from Roman Ristorante about once a month, and eat in the dining room 3-4 times a year. The owner and chef (Hasco) is friendly and attentive and always comes to check on us after we've had a chance to sample his food.
The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. Most items on the menu are under $15 and could easily feed two people (and then some). We never leave without a takeaway box. The menu has a lot of variety, and their Salad Verde is tasty and unique.
The dining room was spruced up earlier this year (2009), and it was a huge improvement - but a long way from being an elegant destination restaurant. Its honest, simple, and clean - perfect for a casual meal.
Very casual, clean, and warm environment. Order at the counter, wait for your food to arrive, and maybe take in a live band or two. The food is well priced, and the choices are far more interesting that most "Americanized" Mexican restaurants in town. The service isn't lightning quick, but the relaxed pace is welcome, and the food is worth the wait. True, the neighborhood is gritty - so if you need the sanitized perfection of a "Milestones" you might wanna stick to the suburbs.
