For a nice looking dining room tucked away on Granville Island, this Dine Out experience was horrid. Wine came in a sticky glass. A beet salad with mushy beets and a bland smoked cod soup lacking smoked cod for appetizers. The mains? My girlfriend had a triple A striploin with gristle on the plate bigger than the remaining portion of meat. There's no way that fat should've made it to the grill let alone the plate. I'm glad I chose the lamb chops (even those were extremely fatty) but was not glad that the taste of KD is 10 times better than my goat cheese risotto. Where do they get their product? I felt sorry for the server who had to apologize all night and offered to bring the other entree option but by then we were ready for dessert. The chocolate brownie creme brulee and mango sorbet profiterole was actually good. Had this not been Dine Out we would've been more vocal in our complaints. Unfortunately, Dine Out has become a time of year when restaurants skimp on quality product knowing they can make up for it with volume as one of the "participating restaurants of Dine Out Vancouver". I remember a time when Dine Out exposed me to quality restaurants that would entice me to come back for the full price menu...does Dockside remember that?

Wow! Finally a place that focuses on quality of food & drinks instead of t & a. First off, what a cool room. Comfy booths & dining chairs, massive art pieces on the walls, the changing color light wall's a nice touch too. Food was great - favorites were the trout & crab roulade and the braised beef rib. Saw some others I'd like to try for next time. Although, I've had better duck breast elsewhere--maybe if they pan-seared instead of oven-roasting it. If you like chocolate go for the flourless torte for dessert-made my girlfriend weak in the knees. She also liked the wine list. Even the drinks were inventive, I had the Hayworth--jager in a cocktail can't go wrong! Our server was really friendly & attentive throughout, can't say a bad thing about her as opposed to service encounters in other downtown "hotspots". Bottom line: we'll be back & often.
