Submitted Saturday, May 10, 2008 - 4:49pm [Dine in]

food: steamed chicken feet was only ok. 3 mushrms in steamed rice wrap was a decent size. bbq pork pastry was quite lean. blk pepper ribs was prob one of the best i've had at dimsum. pcs were quite large and the pepper sauce flavorful. not all the sticky rice wraps had shrimp. tofu, enoki mushrm, & shrimp wrapped in seaweed was quite good. the shrimp was pretty big! steamed veggie dumpling and bean curd wrap was quite big too. a little pricey but for the size and quality it was not bad. at first we thought we didnt order enuf but it did turn out to be just perfect as we did not anticipate the larger size of most of the dishes.

service: we made reservations and waited under 5min b4 being seated. we had 1 guy serving just our little section so there was constant service available for any of our needs. he did forget to place one of our orders but he rectified it and the dish came fairly quickly...in fact all our food came at a reasonable time. the dimsum servers could smile a little more...

ambiance: fairly clean with typical chinese decor. nothing special. we didnt feel rushed at all.

overall: the whole experience was "solid" all round. nothing that blew us out of the waters nor made us feel we could not return ever... altho we prob wont be coming that often just b/c of the $$$ factor. it is a little pricey but for mother's day dimsum we felt it could be justified.

Valentine Days Dinner
Submitted Sunday, February 17, 2008 - 1:32am [Dine in]

Food: it was a set menu of 6 courses for $80/person on Vday. a little steep...but sooo good!! tuna tartar + deep fried prawn. braised oxtail crepe was delicious. lobster bisque very good quality...my b/f said one of the best he's ever had. champagne sorbet to clear the palette was a great followup. chateaubriand was cooked perfectly. i loved the way they served it...came out on a trolley and was presented first then cut up and served. choco fondue for dessert. there was an excellent selection of fruits...so good!!

Service: excellent service. never experience so much attention to detail. they were very busy that nite but still managed to impress me. waiters were very knowledgeable about their wine selection.

Ambiance: nice intimate setting. decor consists of "william tell" memorabilia. lite piano music in the background

Overall: great dining experience. price was a little steep but in the end it was worth it. i had no complaints about the entire nite. definitely worthwhile to return...when my wallet can take the hit!

Belly Dancing Surprise
Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 10:26pm [Dine in]

Food: lemon roasted chicken was really tender was just the perfect hint of lemon. came w/ greek salad, rice pilaf, and roasted potatoes. good portion and value. rack of lamb is also of a favorite of mine.

Service: very friendly and timely service.

Ambiance: was a little loud b/c there was a bday party there. as well, we came on a night that there was belly dancing. maybe we just werent in the mood and were extremely tired but it was a bit loud for us altho the other dinner patrons seemed to enjoy to entertainment

Overall: been here a few times and have always left satisfied. will def return when in the mood for greek food downtown. dont forget your e-book coupon for savings!

Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 9:58pm [Dine in]

Food: caesar was typical. my b/f had the soup and he said it was very good. veal cheeks were soo good, but soo small!! there were 2 pieces the size of a butter clam on a bed of mash potatoes...as the filler of course. my b/f had the pasta which he said was tasty and was a bit more filling. my banana cupcake had waaaay too much cream...kind of tasted like carrot cake too. lemon tart was too sour for my liking. i came in expecting portions to be small b/c i heard their reg menu is small to begin with, but very tasty! my b/f likes the burger b/c it's very lean and the fries non greasy.

Service: our server was a little clumsy w/ the cutlery. for fine dining i thought they wouldve known who ordered what when food was brought out instead of making us put up our hands when they announced the dish.

Ambiance: very cozy and comfortable. we were seated in what looked like could convert to a private room, therefore, it was not as loud as the general floor which we appreciated. great for intimate dates.

Overall: despite the small portions i wouldnt mind giving the regular menu a try still based in other rave reviews. i'll just have to remember not to skip lunch that day!

Tastes Like Rmd Sushi, But Better View
Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 9:26pm [Dine in]

Food: tastes like Richmond Sushi. Nothing special. Typical Chinese made Japanese food.

Service: comes pretty quick...but thats cuz a lot is premade so it comes cold. after we put out all our money for the tab, the waitress counted our money rite at our table in front of us! odd...

Ambiance: get a window seat! fairly roomy establishment.

Overall: i dont live nr new west so it is very unlikely i will ever return when in van/rmd we are nr so many other restaurants much better in quality. park in casino lot and dont forget to get a parking voucher!

We Come For Pizza, and Pizza Only!
Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 8:58pm [Dine in]

Food: We love the pizza here! We love that we can get whole wheat crust, we love the ingredients, and we love that after we're done we dont feel all heavy and lethargic. Our favourites include Me-N-Eds Combo, BBQ chicken, and Gangster.

Service: I dont understand this seat yourself system. We have been in situations where no one comes to our table for a very very long time!! They dont seem too organized in differentiating who's order has been taken and who's new b/c there are times when we wait for a long time to be greeted and handed menus, and other times asked over and over if we've ordered.

Ambiance: Very casual pizza joint. Be prepared to be surrounded by hungry obnoxious idiots drinking, eating pizza, and watching the game.

Overall: Despite the lousy service system and cheap interior i'll still come back for the awesome pizza!

No More Push Carts! :(
Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 8:39pm [Dine in]

Food: fairly decent selection. had the chicken feet, beef balls, bbq pork, beef, & mushrm rice noodle, shrimp dumpling, sui mai, etc. all of which were pretty standard quality. nothing that stood out either -/+.

Service: nothing special. they come when beckoned and offer nothing less or more than what is asked of them.

Ambiance: busy busy! which often translates to noisy, but i dont mind...i usually end up going w/ a lrg group anyways, so our table is prob contributing! fairly clean and accommodates lrg grps.

Overall: this place is pretty consistent. dont expect to be blown away by the food or service and u wont be disappointed. make reservations on the wkend and try to come earlier to look for parking.

Submitted Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 8:28pm [Dine in]

Food: tom yum gai was a bit salty but typical of most thai places we try. had chicken curry and grn beens w/ beef off the special menu. flavour was good, but a bit too much bamboo in the curry for our liking.

Service: our server was very polite and personable. asked questions and made suggestions. wait time for food was reasonable.

Ambiance: lots of pictures, statues, and plants to give that authentic thai feeling. appeared to be clean overall.

Overall: i've had much better thai food, but if you're looking for a quick fix this will do. also, if u've never tried "authentic" thai, this could be a good place to go since i find they dont make the food as spicy or offer more traditional dishes that may not be suitable for all palettes. dont forget ur entertainment book coupon!

Authentic Singaporean Food!
Submitted Sunday, December 30, 2007 - 3:22am [Dine in]

Food: had the roti, chicken/beef satays, laksa fried rice, singapore chicken curry, beef rendang, chicken burwangi, blk glutinous rice & sweet dessert soup. flavours were great for all dishes. nothing that spectacular w/ the satays but the sauce was good. laksa had nice spice to it. the curry flavour was a good blend and the chicken very tender. burwangi a little heavy in flavour dept but w/ the broccoli a nice balance. my favorite was the beef rendang. the desserts not too sweet which was great. we found that after eating we werent too thirsty which usually means not too much msg or sodium, an added plus.

Service: fr reservations, seating, dining, to exit, the service was excellent for an asian establishment. waters were constantly refilled, orders taken politely & professionally (waitress has a great memory!). my only gripe is that our food order came out in a weird order...our laksa came b4 the roti or satays which should be the appetizers...oh, and our jasmine rice came late, but the waitress handled it professionally so we didnt mind.

Ambiance: nice clean simple decor. we had a booth seat so we felt a little "seclusion". the other chairs did look very cute and comfy tho. they dont bug u to leave or overwhelm u w/ their presence which is nice. u feel comfortable to enjoy ur meal at ur own pace.

Overall: i will def be returning to try other items on their menu. i dont mind paying a bit more for better quality. plus, when i compare it to tropika or banana leaf...it's about the same price! i def recommend for others to give this place a try. bring ur entertainment book coupon and make reservations!

Solid Visit
Submitted Saturday, December 29, 2007 - 12:07am [Dine in]

Food: green beans, honey garlic spareribs, pad thai, pineapple fried rice, roti canai, and satay skewers all pretty good. a little disappointed in the fried banana...it was a little bland.

Service: all the servers were pretty eager to help. didnt have to ask for the water to be refilled which was a first.

Ambiance: i like the dim lighting and decor. a little loud for an intimate date...and not practical for a LARGE group gathering as they dont have any round tables. (we chinese like our round tables w/ lazy susans!) but still great for a get-together.

Overall: food was ok, altho nothing jumped out at me as being fantastic. i'm still a big fan of coco chili house. however, i still dont mind this place based on tonight's visit...remember to bring your entertainment book coupon!

Not Blown Away...
Submitted Friday, December 28, 2007 - 5:01pm [Dine in]

Food: i had the beef stew in tomato sauce. large bowl and lots of beef. it was suppose to be kinda spicy but i didnt find it so. my b/f had the noodles w/ prawn balls. kind pricey but he did get quite a few lrg prawn balls. we both decided next time we'd try something diff't on the menu. we did have the chicken wings and both agreed they were yummy w/ or w/out the lemon sauce.

Service: nothing special. food comes out fairly quick and is fairly english friendly.

Ambiance: looks like they had done some renos since the last time i came which was yrs ago. looks much better! i like the subtle pictures on the walls and they had a nicely decorated tree by the front entrance...the little greenhouse area def cut off some of the cold draft that came in whenever the doors opened.

Overall: still worth giving another try...it's just an excuse to have the wings again!

Strawberry Spare Ribs!
Submitted Friday, December 28, 2007 - 4:18pm [Dine in]

Food: been here b4 for dimsum and it was not bad. it is a la carte so everything is fresh and hot. was here recently for dinner and had the strawberry spare ribs...so good! this is a favorite of mine. all other dishes were not bad. complimentary dessert is the sweet yam soup which is more expensive and pretty good quality. also a big fan of the chrysanthemum like jello (gwai fai gao).

Service: was a very slow nite so we got lots of attention. ha! but not overwhelming which is nice. so i have to give them a 3 for my last experience, but i think normally they're anywhere between 2-3 when theyre busy.

Ambiance: typical family chinese restaurant. looks fairly clean and well kept unlike a previous reviewer's criticism.

Overall: quality has been fairly consistent on all our visits. no major complaints and i've always left satisfied so def no qualms about returning again.

Reliable Chinese Food
Submitted Tuesday, December 25, 2007 - 1:29am [Dine in]

Food: budha's feast chow mein was pretty good. surprisingly a lot of diff veggies: 3-4 types mushrooms, bby corn, carrots, watercrest, sprouts, bok choy, and bamboo. one of the best we've tried. shredded chicken fried rice was good too. decent serving size. i have had congee here b4 too and i have to say quality is pretty good.

Service: efficient. there xmas eve and the place was packed, but still only 2 servers and they were moving fast! we were impressed they kept the place running. food came out quickly too.

Ambiance: fairly clean and bright inside. suitable for family gatherings or quick meals. parking on the street and out back.

Overall: def a reliable place for congee, chow mein, noodles or fried rice. will return in the future to try their other menu offerings.

Great First Experience
Submitted Monday, December 24, 2007 - 1:50am [Dine in]

Food: we were given complimentary "amuse bouche" which was a potato mushroom soup in a shooter glass. very tasty. i started w/ the mosaic salad ($10) which was a nice mix of greens, bacon, apple, walnuts on this creamy "cheesy" sauce. i highly recommend this one. my b/f had the the onion soup ($8) which he enjoyed since it was not too heavy. i then had the 1/2 chicken ($26) which was very flavorful and tender. my b/f the blk cod which he too enjoyed...but he did mention it was a little small for the price $34 i think. we then shared the bread pudding ($7) which was very nice. i saw the choco choco cake and it is huge! if i could eat more i wouldve opted for that!

Service: as a previous review said..."polished". our waiter was very polite and knowledgeable. he knew the menu and made recommendations which we took and enjoyed. waters were refilled, came by in a timely manner...we never felt "pressured" or rushed. Excellent.

Ambiance: great atmosphere for romantic or group dinners, drinks, or dessert. we had a seat by the window overlooking burrard st and it felt very nice and cozy.

Overall: great fine dining experience. def recommend this place based on my dining experience.

Can't Complain Over $13 Steak Special
Submitted Sunday, December 23, 2007 - 5:05pm [Dine in]

Food: we both had the dinner special which was steak, mushrooms, veggies, and mash potatoes for $13. we both asked for medium and mine was still red/pink in the middle but my b/f's was cooked all the way thru. steak was a little chewy but for that price...you can't complain.

Service: only 3 tables us included...and the other 2 were already on dessert/coffee when we arrived so we expected nothing less than what we got. server was polite, attentive, and food came out fairly quickly.

Ambiance: very casual and relaxing atmosphere. interiors are a little outdated but comfortable.

Overall: no complaints, if we out in this area again and are looking for some simple, home cooking this place will do. dont let the 2star rating fool you...i thought everything was "ok" but not as good as some places i've given 3stars+. we noticed that they offer breakfast menu as well so will give it a try in the nr future.

So Small...~whimper~
Submitted Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 1:51am [Dine in]

Food: had the samosas, chicken tiki, butter chicken, naan, chapati, alu gobi and vegetable biryani. we actually didnt order all that at once but had to add on top as the dishes were surprisingly small!! flavour was good (hence 3stars), but def not a "value" meal. i think for the same amt of money spent here we wouldve enjoyed even better food elsewhere.

Service: very polite and attentive...altho there were only 3 tables i expected nothing less.

Ambiance: interior decor is very nice w/ the soft lighting, pictures, statues, etc. a real authentic feel.

Overall: i dont think i will return anytime soon just b/c i believe there is better valued indian food out there. i'm sure there is another restaurant w/ good food at a good price.

Hit the Spot....ummmm...
Submitted Sunday, December 16, 2007 - 9:41pm [Dine in]

Food: had the prime classic which came w/ caesar salad, veggies, and substituted baked potato w/ mashed. prime rib was delicious! really hit the spot. tender and juicy.

Service: was told wait was 40-50 min but seated in 30min. server was polite and knowledgeable. asked for my prime rib to be medium and she said tonite's medium was more of a medium rare and made sure we were ok w/ this. she was rite, it was more on the medium rare side and tasted great! never felt rushed the whole time we were there which we appreciated.

Ambiance: great place for a date or friends. cozy decor, soft music, and confortable setting.

Overall: def would return knowing i will not be disappointed by the food or experience.

Very Average...Decent.
Submitted Sunday, December 16, 2007 - 7:43pm [Dine in]

Food: fairly large menu selection. had the spinach & artichoke dip which came w/ surprisingly quite a bit of dip, altho a little on the salty side. b/f had the peppercorn chicken pretzel club which he described as just "fine". the bun a little on the heavy side but to be expected w/ a "pretzel" bun. I had the honey bbq chicken burger which i found to be very average. salad a little heavily dressed for my liking...will ask for dressing on the side next time. pineapple & berries smoothie reminded us of nerds candy.

Service: a little slow to start since we hit the dinner rush, however, it did get better. appie came out really fast! other food fairly quickly too. servers were nice and courteous.

Ambiance: totally casual. scattering of TVs around the restaurant. booth seats felt a little "cheap"...like we could feel the springs underneath.

Overall: while it didnt blow us away, it didnt disappoint either. we went in w/ no expectations and came out w/ our tummies filled. wouldnt mind trying some of the other items on the menu next time. dont forget to bring your entertainment book coupon!!

Brunch Disappointment
Submitted Sunday, December 2, 2007 - 9:48pm [Dine in]

Food: I had the Sante Fe Breakfast Burrito which i thought the scrabbled eggs inside were too mushy and uncooked. prob didnt help that there was too much sour cream inside and on top! my b/f had the eggs benedict which we swear has shrunk since the last time we had brunch here.

Service: our server was very friendly and attentive. however, something strange did happen when we got our bill. bill came to ~$21.16, we gave a $40 and should have got back $18.84,but only got back $17!! i'm just hoping that it's an honest error...hum...

Ambiance: nothing special about the interior decorating. fairly typical and bland. clean. we didnt feel rushed in anyway and were able to conversate.

Overall: fairly disappointed about the quality of food...next time i'm feeling brunch, we might try a diff't location
