Disappointed!
Submitted Saturday, September 14, 2013 - 10:37pm [Dine in]

This place is now at the NW corner of Westerminster and Cooney, in the plaza (it's been for many years). It's a place I usually go and have been for a long time, ever since they were at their old location by Nando Chicken. But after today I won't be going back. I went there with my parents and ordered their BBQ Pork with vermicelli. My mom ordered the same except with rice and dad had a small #2 pho. His pho was fine (just smaller than expected, almost like a kid's size) but our BBQ pork was horrible! I have never had such dry pork chop. We were there around 4pm on a Saturday and the place was empty - we were hoping that it was because it was too early for dinner.....but later we realized that perhaps it's just not popular anymore due to the fierce competition of pho places in Richmond.

It tasted like the pork chops had been BBQ-ed many days ago, left to dry, then reheated before serving. The flavour was there but if only it was made fresh, I believe it would have tasted much better. By the end of the meal the pork got tougher and chewier as the food cooled down...it was like eating jerky. My mom felt the same way and so did dad who had a bite of it. He couldn't believe this was the same place as the one we used to go to by Nando's Chicken. Maybe they changed owners or chefs?

I really hope the owners would put more heart into making sure the food tastes good. I would rather they remove this dish from the menu if it's going to taste like that. *sigh*... never been so disappointed from eating pork chop at any Vietnamese restaurant.

Plastic wrap in duck fat dish
Submitted Thursday, May 9, 2013 - 6:49pm [Dine in]

I came here for dinner on a weeknight. My friend and I ordered the BBQ duck dish and a oxtail soup to share. The oxtail and small side dishes were ok, as what you'd expect. The duck dish however was a major disappointment. First of all, it was mostly fat, I could barely see the meat, plus it was served in a hot plate which was full of the fat drippings! Also, I found a plastic wrap inside of that plate. It was about 6 inches long. I told the waitress, she just looked very sorry and apologized.

If they were really sorry, couldn't they have offered a discount of some sort, or not charge for the dish? It I had eaten the plastic wrap I could have choked! Plus imagine what could have melted into the dish from the plastic, bleehhhh! Hazard to my health! Plus this place is quite pricey for what you get/don't get.

After reading all the good reviews, I had expected at least a decent meal. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I came here on a weekday lunch time and ordered the Pad Thai lunch "special." It comes with an extremely small spring roll and the Pad Thai portion was tiny as well. I'm not sure if it's because I came for lunch and not dinner? I saw a lot of good reviews and on Urban spoon it was given 90% "like"... However I really do not "like" this place. I felt ripped off and unsatisfied after the meal!!

Very Expensive
Submitted Monday, April 16, 2012 - 1:04pm [Dine in]

I read a lot of reviews saying this place had good quality food and the price was reasonable. I'm not sure if they upped the prices but when I was there a few weeks ago it was very very pricey. A friend and I were there for dinner on a week night, around 6pm. The place was quite empty, there were only two tables filled.

We love trying new food so we decided on a geoduck sashimi salad, spider roll and red tuna sashimi to share among the two of us. We wanted to order more but these three dishes already added up to around $50 - that's $25/person and we weren't willing to spend more than that for so little food. The geoduck was new to us and good, it came in a tiny bowl. The tuna sashimi was fresh (again, portion was small); spider roll - nothing to complain about. So if you have extra cash lying around then sure, try it. If you're on a budget, I would suggest spending your precious money elsewhere.

I did a search for Kiriri menu online and only found a version on Urbanspoon that didn't look anything like the menu we got at the restaurant. Not sure if this is a take out menu or lunch menu...

The waiter was very attentive - so attentive it got on my nerves. The whole time we were deciding on our order, he just stood there and it made me uneasy. Maybe this is just me, some people might like this(???)

They made us pay for hot water!!!
Submitted Thursday, May 12, 2011 - 12:31pm [Dine in]

My friends and I came here on a cool day and wanted some hot water to warm up. In total we ordered 1 coke and 3 hot waters. We were charged $10 for this.

Besides this, my order came out wrong. I had ordered a lamb taco and 2 different types of pork tacos. They gave me a chicken instead of lamb. When I got it switched, the lamb tasted very bland, I could barely tell it was lamb! So overall, food was only so-so. The salsa bar was very low on salsa and you can only use tiny paper containers (like what you get for ketchup at McDonald's) for these salsa so we made 3 trips to get enough for the 3 of us.

Decent food, great atmosphere!

Tried Mad Greek for the first time last Friday. Had heard that their roast lamb was realllly good, so thought I'd give that a try. Roughly $18 for the roast leg of lamb, potato, rice. The leg was good but not great throughout the whole chunk. Meat that was roasted beside bones/fat was very juicy and tasty...however other parts seemed a bit overcooked, which showed through its darkened colour and mediocre texture.

Potato had a nice bite, I liked it even though it was a little over lemon-ed. Rice was nicely flavoured.

Mid-way through my meal, the belly dancer came out and started dancing with her ... well, belly. Very entertaining, she went around the whole room making sure everyone was included. Room was bright, great decor. Next time I'd go back to try something else - maybe a combo - or just hope the next piece of lamb is juicy all around.

Quite good! First time I've tried a South Indian restaurant. I've been there 4 times by now! Opened not long ago! First two times I had buffet, just love the freshly made Pourri and Dosa. Naan I've only tried once (the server misunderstood when I said "no thanks".. and he gave me a piece of naan anyway).. Naan was a little chewy, not fluffy. Dosa was light, fluffy, quite nice to eat with sauces. Pourri was also quite nice though I can't eat too many, they fill me up!

Other buffet dishes are pretty good! Third time I went I wanted to try the menu and not stuff myself too much (after shoving food down my stomach the second time!) This time I tried .. don't remember the name. It's a pancake thing with chilli, onion and tomatoes, with 2 chutneys on the side, one currie type of sauce, and another cup of a delicious sauce to pour onto the pancake. This costed $7 something, under $8 for lunch. Looong line up that day to pay at the cashier.. servers were too busy to bring the bill. It was around noon.

Fourth time I visited, decided that the buffet was a great deal so had that again. Lots of dishes for $9.40 before tax and tips. Am tempted to try those desserts by the counter.. don't know which is good though! Next time I crave South Indian food I'll know where to go! Funny thing is, first time I went I didn't realize the dishes were vegetarian! Didn't miss the meat, and I am a meat lover..so it was a bit of a surprise I didn't realize until a friend pointed it out!

Dishes are not stale like some buffet places are.. Very nice.

Submitted Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 10:33pm [Dine in]

Went with a friend and got in just as they opened for dinner (I think it was 5:30pm). Took my time to look through the menu. Quite extensive list of dishes! Everything looked delicious.

Finally decided on a ..hm can't remember what the name of it was, but it's basically a bed of rice in a bowl, covered with thinly shredded eggs, then covered with my favourite! Half sea urchin, half salmon roe. I knew I would love the sea urchin/ uni, as I always do! Salmon roe I was afraid would be too salty. At this place, it wasn't! It bursts with flavour and heaven!!! Uni was sooo delicious, creamy, aromatic, with just the right amount and flavour of rice. Not too much. This place doesn't try to fill you up with rice! Perfect amount of ingredients vs. rice. Uni and salmon roe were more than I imagined. For $17 and tax included I think? Tips on top of that. I left so pleased and satisfied...

Mind you, though, I have only gone once.. so I don't know how consistent they are. But, previous reviewers seem to have loved it as well.

Only complaint - Rude service
Submitted Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 10:15pm [Dine in]

First time I went, sat at the table by the door, food was great, just a little windy and cold. I had the spot closest to the door.

I shared a combo for 2, with calamari, lamb chop, meat ball type of thing, chicken and pork skewers, Mousaka (sp?) and a filo dough wrap thing with cheese inside. Calamari was great, lamb chop, mousaka and filo wrap were all good. The meat ball thing was too dry, so were the skewers I must say. They also came with lemon flavoured potato and rice, Greek salad. Calamari and lamb were my favourite out of the meal. That's why I went back the second time.

Second time there, I made reservations two nights before going. 6pm, booth spot. When I got there, the man who greeted us asked for my name and I gave it to him. He asked if we had reservations, I said yes. So we were seated in the booth like I had asked for on the phone (may have been a coincidence?). A few moments later, an angry looking lady came up to us and asked, again, "you had reservations??" As if I would lie about it! I replied, "yes, I called in two night ago." Her attitude and tone of voice left me such a bad impression that I never went back after that. If there's been a mistake, admit it or at least be polite about it, not storm towards your customer and make them feel like THEY are liars.

The food, second time I ordered the same combo since I liked it the first time. This time, however, the Moussaka was only slightly warm.. not hot. Calamari still good, fluffy, light.. everything else was ok. Just wasn't in the mood to enjoy after being made to feel like an intruder, as if my friend and I weren't supposed to be there. If I go back it would definitely not be for the service. Now I see why people have said the service can be really bad when busy!!!
