Saint Germain Bakery4720 Kingsway, #1144, Burnaby
Bad Customer Service Experience
Submitted Tuesday, May 24, 2011 - 3:55pm [Dine in]

I used to go to St Germain occasionally to buy a small treat after a long day of shopping, but I don't anymore. Although their baked goods are decent and well made (presentation-wise), it's their rude service that hinders me from making a return visit ever again. They have this line up system where you're supposed to pull a number and wait in line. I haven't been to the bakery for a while, so I forgot about their rule and waited in line without a number. When I was going to pay for the item I chose, the lady at the register was very rude and said how I wasn't supposed to take the item off the counter myself and should wait for my turn. Well, how was I supposed to know that? She could have told me in a more polite way, yet she was demeaning and very disrespectful. I saw other people taking stuff off the counter by themselves, and they didn't get a lecture on that. If they wanted to prevent people from taking the bakery products off the counter by themselves, then why not display them in a glass case instead of on the counter for everyone to take? When I got out my metro card (I work at the mall) and politely asked if I could use it or not, she told me: "It's already on sale, and you want a discount?" I'm not expecting spectacular customer service at a bakery, but the manner that the woman treated me was just plain insulting. I'm not saying all the workers there are rude, just the one particular woman that I unfortunately had to encounter. Such a shame, really, because I do think their baked goods are up to par. Now, whenever I pass by the store, I lose my appetite and walk away with no intention of ever returning again.

Slow service, but gets points for interior

I first went to Well Tea because I have been to almost all the eateries in and around UBC and this was one of the last ones I have not yet tried. Also, they specialize in Taiwanese food. I'm from Taiwan and I was excited about eating food from where I came from. All I can say is.. When I first saw the menu, I almost left because their bubble teas and other drinks were so pricey! They had a really large selection of drinks though and a pretty big selection in terms of the food.

I ordered a chicken curry.. It was too watery (not the curry I thought I would be getting) and a bit too sweet for my taste. (Is curry supposed to be that sweet? I couldn't even taste any spices.) My friends ordered beef noodle (he said that it was really good) and chicken nuggets. (This one was not bad. It was one of my favorite night market foods back in Taiwan) We all had to wait 20 minutes for our orders to come though.. extremely slow.

The second time I went, I only had a one hour break before class started. My boyfriend ordered a chicken nugget meal. I didn't order anything. After 50 minutes his meal still had not come yet.. I mean, the 20 minute wait the first time was already long enough. But 50 minutes?! Class had already started when they finally gave him his order. I mean.. I understand that they have a lot of customers and are busy, but a 50 minute wait just for one lunch is really too much. They also looked extremely confused when we asked about the order that we placed.. 50 whole minutes ago. I don't think I'll be going back there again.

Great service, average food
Submitted Thursday, December 31, 2009 - 1:55am [Dine in]

I held my birthday dinner tonight at Moxies. The service that we received here was fantastic. Our server was fabulous at accomodating our large party and came back frequently to make sure that everyone was having a good time. As for the food, I thought that it was just average. I ordered the maple glazed salmon, and it failed to impress me. I was disappointed, as the dish reminded me of airplane food.I tried some of the other food though, and they tasted much better than the salmon. The ambiance and decor of this restaurant is great, perfect for a night out with a group of friends.
