Sushi Garden4635 Kingsway, Burnaby
Best a la carte sushi place in South Burnaby!
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 9:09am [Dine in]

I've been to Sushi Garden many many times for years and the good thing is, their food and service is always consistant! Even after their expansion.

They are always really busy with lineups unless you go after 9pm! But its worth the wait! Their sushi is always really fresh and rolls are always delicious! I love their alaska roll! Its not the same at any other place!! It's smaller, but the sauce they drizzle on it is SOO YUMMY! Next is their ikamite roll! No other place has this roll! It's soo yummy with the ika tempura and the sauce that they drizzle over!!

All in all, this place is well loved by lots of ppl, and it's becuz of their decent price and size of their sashimi and rolls. They are busy but they also have lots of cooks working at the same time, so food is still really fast!

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The4510 Still Creek Avenue, Burnaby
Always a Keg Getaway experience!
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 8:41am [Dine in]

I come visit this Keg about once every other month or so and each time I come I always have a great time!

My steak is always done the way I want it! (i'm not picky, but even gotham's made my medium-rare steak wrong) Service is usually prompt even tho they are busy! Expect to wait for a table if you show up after 7pm! Our servers were always really thorough with the specials or any questions we may have.

The prices for the steaks is exceptional value compared to other high-end steakhouses. It's not your regular pub steak price, but its about $15-$20 cheaper than all the high-end over-hyped places.

And the taste? wonderful! I've tried many steakhouses in vancouver, and I must admit there are some good places out there, but I can't ever forget the taste of the Keg's Baseball sirloin!! I don't know what it is, must be the rub on the outside and the perfection on the inside! It's always juicy and cooked to perfection!! (that is if you like medium-rare or rarer steaks, cuz its a thick cut!)

Overall, the keg is a nice place to even make it a special occasion without breaking the bank! Which means we can have more special occasions now! :D

Hi Genki Japanese Restaurant6680 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby
Good and cheap Authentic Japanese food
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 8:29am [Dine in]

Hi Genki is located in a japanese manor, so its not visually seen or known for mainstream eaters. There is always a lineup for lunch so arrive early and expect to wait! But its worth it! :)

Once you walk in, they will display some of their specials, so while you wait you can see what you may want to order. Most of their items are like "bento boxes".. but on plates. But meaning it comes with either tempura salmon, potato crockets, tonkatsu, breaded oysters.. and served with rice, soup and some veggies. for about $6-7 its a good deal for lunch!

They also have regular menu items, their tempura is very good value as you can get 2 prawn, 3 veggie for about $4. and you can get really fresh salmon sashimi for about $1 piece. it's smaller slices, but you can taste the difference! I really love their eggplant cooked in the style like agedashi with bonito flakes! for like $4! That is a Must-Try if you like eggplants!! :)

Everything is very authentic in their food and service! Everyone is Japanese, even the cooks! (Most Japanese restaurants are runned by chinese or koreans nowadays and if they are japanese, its expensive places!)

The ambience is very casual, almost feels like you're eating in a cafeteria, but if you don't mind the setting and just want good food then this is the place to be! :)

Fish On Rice4361 Kingsway, #201, Burnaby
an ok AYCE sushi place
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 8:15am [Dine in]

I've been to Fish On Rice in burnaby a few times and once at their broadway location and their food quality and service is about the same.

Its not bad value when their price was about $18, has all the popular items and sashimi too! and unlimited pop. But now they raised their price to $21 which is not really worth it anymore, becuz for $2 more you can go to other AYCE place and get like kaki pon, unagi sushi and more sashimi variety.

I would recommend B.C. Sushi on broadway over this, unless you don't eat kaki pons, unagi and wild sockeye salmon and more grilled items then you can save a few bucks here.

Amorosa Pasta House7874 Edmonds St., Burnaby
Nice little pasta place for Hungry people!
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 8:06am [Dine in]

Amorosa is a little italian place, so therefore its always packed and reservations is recommended unless you arrive early! :)

They have a good assortment of pastas and comes in HUGE portions! It's not as big as Anton's but its about $2-3 cheaper, so for the price its about the same. The difference is, Amorosa's pasta's seem to have more depth, it has more ingredients and not just a whole lot of pasta noodles! And you will always have lunch for tomorrow! :)

Bombay Bhel4266 Hastings St., Burnaby
Good looking Indian place
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 7:56am [Dine in]

I've been to Bombay Bhel a few times, their service is always prompt and friendly! The ambience of the place is also really nice, romantic and modern looking! The food is not bad expecially their Goan Curry! Really tasty! Although my favourite Indian dish is Lamb Korma, and this place has really disapointed me! :( it tasted like mushroom sauce! ...But for their other curries and dishes, its not bad especially when it comes with either rice or naan.

Its even a better value when you use your entertainment book coupon! :)

Anton's Pasta Bar4260 E Hastings Street, Burnaby
Great Pasta place for Hungry People!
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 7:49am [Dine in]

I've been to Antons several times, and I've been lucky I didn't have to wait long for a table. They have a great assortment of pastas and they come in HUGE portions! An average eater will only touch 1/3 of the plate and a Hungry Hippo will only eat 1/2! The taste of their pastas are average and might get boring cuz its such a huge portion.

Their service is also not bad for being so busy! Our waitresses always came by to refill drinks or ask us if we needed anything! But you can see they are working really hard! :D

The only downside of this place is they use WAYYY too much styrofoam containers as EVERY diner requires a doggy bag for their leftover pasta!! :)

Posh6462 Kingsway, #105, Burnaby
Inconsistant ok AYCE Hot Pot place
Submitted Wednesday, February 4, 2009 - 7:35am [Dine in]

I visit the Posh in Burnaby twice, the first time I had good service, the waitress was really friendly and explained how sukiyaki works. She knew it was our first time so she recommended that she brings us a "assortment plate" which was really nice. I normally go for regular chinese AYCE hot pot places which I must agree have a lot more variety. (meats & seafood) but for the price 13.88 plus $1 sauce, its not a bad deal if you're looking for a not over-stuffed night.

Then, about a month later, I decided to take my whole family (group of 12) and tried their lunch! They have increased their prices ($2 more) but we thought its okay, cuz they said they've increased their quality and service.

But what disappointment! The waitress we got was terrible! She really tried to hard sell their drinks, but we only wanted tea. Then she said there is a charge for tea. $1.50 a tea bag! I don't remember they charging for tea the first time I went. But I mean for a group of 12 paying adults, its not really businessy to not include tea. The manager could have easily done that!

And then she asked us if we've came here before, then my sister said only I came here before. Then I said.. "Oh but you can explain how this works to them." .. then she said "oh if you've been here, you can explain.".. I was sorta choked cuz she's pretty much passing the ball back and forth, I asked her to do something simple.

Then when we ordered, I asked her to bring each side of the table the "assortment plate". And once again she said "oh you've been here before, you can order what you want and we'll double the orders." ..Now I'm choked! Cuz I asked her to do someting VERY simple! and she's not even the person who's in the kitchen arranging the plates! So she's just being PLAIN LAZY!!

So after the food came, I noticed there were lots of items missing or not the right amount. Like we ordered 4 udon's. and only 1 came. Then I ordered large plate of spinach and only like 6 leaves came! SERIOUSLY! My table was group of 12!! It was very frustrating as our waitress wasn't very helpful.

It also took forever for them to come fill the drinking water. And I find the beef's quality has gone down, most of the strips were all fat!

So for them increasing in price, its no longer worth coming here! Cuz if you do the math, $15.88+$1-2dipping sauce+1.50tea=$19.38!!

For that I much rather go to other AYCE places for like $19.95 for more variety on meats, seafood, veggies and sauce! I recommend Top Gun Hot Pot in Crystal mall ANYDAY!

This place is only good for people who likes a quiet meal with no waitresses coming around to help(bad service), likes to pay for tea and dipping sauces, and are allergic to seafood and in love with fatty meats! Yuck!
