Good pub food in this area!
Submitted Monday, June 28, 2010 - 12:15am [Dine in]

Strolled in here on Friday to watch the World cup because it was close to my office. Ordered the house burger (I forgot the name) and was amazed at how good it was. I think they made it fresh, not the usual frozen crap they serve at the other bars and pubs near by. Server was very friendly and attentive. I liked the Aussie theme. Good pub food and fairly priced.

Mui Garden Restaurant5960 Minoru Boulevard, Richmond
Solid Mui in Richmond
Submitted Monday, June 28, 2010 - 12:10am [Dine in]

Took mom and pops to Mui Garden in Richmond this weekend and was happy to have had another "solid" experience. Ordered a bunch of canton favorites, (gai-lan beef, curry brisket, yang-chow fried rice, sweet and sour soup and house-special fried noodles) and found everything to be tasty but just "average" in the Richmond area.

The curry beef brisket was the headliner here since they are known for their curry and it did not disappoint. Excellent dish.

Service, value, and ambiance are all in line with typical restaurants of this nature. You don't visit for any of these three points, you are here for the curry.

Will visit again ...

Excellent Sambal Fish
Submitted Sunday, June 27, 2010 - 11:58pm [Dine in]

Food - The roti canai was perfectly done, served fluffy but not oily and one of the best curry sauces I have tasted in months. The curry was sweet and very light, a nice change from the usual Malay digs I frequent. The next plate was the appetizer plate which I kind of regretted ordering. It came with a bunch of fried items (ie: spring rolls, golden bags (similar to a wonton), fish cakes, and prawns which all tasted find but kind of boring. The third and final plate I got was the sambal fish, which was very tasty and delicious. Sambal sauce was just right, and perfect with a bowl of steam rice. The table beside me got the Sambal crab which I watched with envy. Next time I visit I will be getting the crab.

Service & Ambiance - Solid experience. Warm and welcoming, servers were attentive during my visit.

Value - Well priced compared to other places of similar quality.

Washroom test - They say a clean washroom usually means a clean kitchen, if that is the case this place has a clean kitchen.

Looking forward to my next visit.

Que Pasa Deli12031 No. 5 Road, Richmond
The most authentic Mexican in Town
Submitted Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - 10:13pm [Dine in]

Went here last Saturday on the way home for a late lunch and had the best authentic burrito in ages:

Food: Had the chorizo burrito made fresh to order and it was outstanding. If you want real mexican food this is a hidden gem in East Richmond a few buildings pass Iron Wood Mall. The burrito was a nice healty portion and it wasn't no fast food burrito so many people think of as mexican food.

Service: The service is okay, what you would expect from a deli.

Value: Today it is hard to eat for under $5-7 for lunch unless you feed yourself with fast food. Lunch was $7 with drink and I think that is preatty damn good.

Ambiance: Solid deli ambiance.

Excellent Ropa Vieja at Havana
Submitted Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - 10:07pm [Dine in]

On Friday I sat on Havana's patio and enjoyed a great crowd, close company, and excellent food and plenty of drinks. Even on a rainy Nov night the patio is one heck of a place to hangout, probably my favorite on the drive.

This visit I had the Ropa Vieja and the plate was outstanding. Plenty of meat on this plate served perfectly. The Red Sangria was on par as always served in a generous pitcher. My guest were very impressed. Goodtimes as always.

Simba's Grill825 Denman Street, Vancouver
Africa on Denman
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 8:39am [Dine in]

Felt like something different last night and decided on Simba's Grill. I ve ate at Simba's before but haven't been there in about six months. Arrived at about 9 and was starving. My visit:

Food: Outstanding, ordered BBQ chicken breast and found it to be very tasty, nice spice and flavour and very juicy. Often when you order something as simply as chicken breast restaurants screw your order up by overcooking but Simba's got this simply idea of serving it juicy right on. I remember the last time I visited and they also did this. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu now.

Service: The servers were good, but the thing that really took me was the owners welcoming nature. Going around the room talking to his customers one on one, makes your welcome and coming back to visit a friend. Very nice man.

Value: Solid. Dinner for two at $40-50 for good food, can't complain.

Ambiance: Solid. Nice little restaurant in the heart of Denman, very clean and nicely decorated.

Will be coming back next time around this way!

Felico's Restaurant8140 Leslie Road, Richmond
Big Fat Greek Dinner
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 8:32am [Dine in]

Went to Felico's a few days ago and wanted to tell everyone how good the service was at this place. Sometimes what really sets a restaurant apart is the service and Felico's had exceptional service.

Service: Hands down the best service I have had in ages. Server was on our group the entire time, bringing us drinks refills without having to ask, complimentary pita after complimentary pita, and even taking the time to ask who wanted their bills split and by what grouping or couple. My friends were drinking and as soon as their glasses were 1/4 full the server was already asking what they wanted, not only good for the customer but good for the business. Often simply gestures go along way and my visit to Felico's shows what kind of impression good service leaves. I ended up leave 20% grat.

Food: Had the calamari dinner and it tasted like a calamari dinner.

Value: Decent.

Ambiance: Felicos did a reno since I last visited and it looks good.

Will be going to Felicos if I feel like Greek in Richmond. Can I say Happy Greek Restaurant!

Decent at Mad Greek
Submitted Sunday, October 4, 2009 - 9:46pm [Dine in]

Last night family and I went to Mad Greek for dinner. Haven't been to Mad Greek in awhile since they moved to their bigger location but had fond memories of previous locations. Dinner was:

Food: Okay. Had Niko's special which was chicken breast and two peices of lamb. The lamb was good and the chicken was dry. I tried other people's dinner in my group and as usual the calamari dinner was my favorite good, Solid.

Service: Okay. Server did her job.

Value: I find this place a little expensive compared to the other Greek eateries in town. Go check it out for yourself and compare.

Ambiance: The restaurant looks great, had the usual belly dancer and entertainment and it was very good. Outstanding.

Although I found dinner was okay I don't think I am in any rush to return. For the PRICE I can eat the same or better Greek. For the ambiance, maybe if I have guess you I can show off but for dinner out (as often as I eat out) Mad Greek is only okay.

Nooch Pho9020 Capstan Way, #110, Richmond
Outstanding Pho in Richmond
Submitted Friday, October 2, 2009 - 11:02pm [Dine in]

Had a craving for Pho and decided to try out Nooch. Got something surprisingly new today!

Food: Very fresh, clean and YES no MSG. I ordered the combo and was surprised to recieve a very tasty asian style salad with a small spring roll, a perfect app. When the Pho came I was surprised by the trendy presentation not typical of these cheap asian eats. The Pho broth was very clear, did not contain the oileness and sparkly (MSG crystals), and was very tasty. The portions of rare steak was large and the noodles were excellent.

Service was good. I think the person helping me us could have been the owner. He was quick and attentive, kind and welcoming.

Value: Outstanding - Pop, Salad, Spring Rolls, Pho x 2 = $16. Hope this keeps up.

Ambiance: It isn't your typical Pho cafe. It looked like an Ikea kitchen and frankly I taught it was a nice change.

Although out of the way I will probably make this a weekly visit when it gets colder. My new Pho choice.

Happy Date Bakery & Restaurant8135 Park Road, Richmond
Fresh breakfast pastries
Submitted Friday, October 2, 2009 - 6:33pm [Dine in]

Had breakfast here twice during the week - Happy Date Bakery has been around for along time, been going here since I was a kid with my grandma. Went by this week since my daily drive passes by. Had the BBQ bun and Hotdog bun this week and they tasted as they always do - ver y good.

Food - Don't know about the real menu but pastries here have always been good.

Service - As good as it gets in these HK style cafes

Value - Very good. I spent $3 each time.

Ambiance - It isn't pretty but I don't care.

Cool as can be on Alberni
Submitted Friday, October 2, 2009 - 6:28pm [Dine in]

Had lunch at Urban Fare once this week and I was as cool as can be. Had the usual chicken breast (italian dressing) and vegtable plate and felt good all day after.

Food: Good home cook style food but nothing to write home about.
Service: Solid - quick cashiers and food servers.
Value: Decent at $6.5 for something real.
Ambiance: Cool as Urban Fare. I like it.

Healthy lunch!
Submitted Friday, October 2, 2009 - 6:25pm [Dine in]

Ate at Steamrollers this week for lunch and had the usual deluxe chicken. I like Steamrollers I just wished it was priced a little less.

Food: If you like fresh healthy burritos, then you will like Steam Rollers. Not your typical mexican slop.

Service: Gentlemen who mans the cash register is always quick and attentive. Good Service.

Value: I find $8.5 for a burrito and pop to be a little expensive. But guess you got to pay to eat well for lunch.

Ambiance: As solid as it gets for fast food (although I don't want to call it that - it is what it is).

La Rocca Ristorante Italiano1565 Commercial, Vancouver
Solid Italian Experience
Submitted Friday, October 2, 2009 - 6:21pm [Dine in]

Ate at La Rocca's last week for the first time since we were craving Italian for a decent price and found this little place to very solid experience. We were seated by the window and I got to eat a good meal and do some people watching.

The food was excellent, she had a prawn pasta dish which was good, and I had a halibut entree which was good but a little on the boring side. I wish I got a pasta dish.

The service was solid, servers were attentive and welcoming.

The value was solid especially since I had a entertainment card. If I didn't it might have been a little bit over priced for what we got.

The ambiance was outstanding, great looking restaurant with DJ the night I was there. DJ was playing music maybe more fitting for Yaletown or Granville lounge but who am I to say.

Wouldn't mind trying other menu items next time around!

Hon's Always Good
Submitted Friday, October 2, 2009 - 5:59pm [Dine in]

Went to Hon's for dinner on Thursday and got the same experience as always:

Food: Outstanding - ordered four plates between four people and the food tasted as it always does, very good, good portions, and consistent with how they should taste.

Service: The service at this place keeps on getting better. For english speakers this is probably one of the only authentic HK style cafes where you will get excellent communication, and quick service.

Value: Four people under $45 is very good for me, especially when the food is of good quality.

Ambiance: Well it isn't Milestones but it is clean, well lit, and I actually like the crowds, kind of reminds me of Hong Kong.
